Distribution of short sums of classical Kloosterman sums of prime powers moduli

Corentin Perret-Gentil proved, under some very general conditions, that short sums of $\ell$-adic trace functions over finite fields of varying center converges in law to a Gaussian random variable or vector. The main inputs are P.~Deligne's equidistribution theorem, N.~Katz' works and the results surveyed in \cite{MR3338119}. In particular, this applies to $2$-dimensional Kloosterman sums $\mathsf{Kl}_{2,\mathbb{F}_q}$ studied by N.~Katz in \cite{MR955052} and in \cite{MR1081536} when the field $\mathbb{F}_q$ gets large. \par This article considers the case of short sums of normalized classical Kloosterman sums of prime powers moduli $\mathsf{Kl}_{p^n}$, as $p$ tends to infinity among the prime numbers and $n\geq 2$ is a fixed integer. A convergence in law towards a real-valued standard Gaussian random variable is proved under some very natural conditions.

Kloosterman paths of prime powers moduli, II

G. Ricotta and E. Royer (2018) have recently proved that the polygonal paths joining the partial sums of the normalized classical Kloosterman sums $S(a,b;p^n)/p^(n/2) converge in law in the Banach space of complex-valued continuous function on [0,1] to an explicit random Fourier series as (a,b) varies over (Z/p^nZ)^\times\times(Z/p^nZ)^\times, p tends to infinity among the odd prime numbers and n>=2 is a fixed integer. This is the analogue of the result obtained by E. Kowalski and W. Sawin (2016) in the prime moduli case. The purpose of this work is to prove a convergence law in this Banach space as only a varies over (Z/p^nZ)^\times, p tends to infinity among the odd prime numbers and n>=31 is a fixed integer.

Kloosterman paths of prime powers moduli

Emmanuel Kowalski and William Sawin proved, using a deep independence result of Kloosterman sheaves, that the polygonal paths joining the partial sums of the normalized classical Kloosterman sums S(a,b0;p)/p^{1/2} converge in the sense of finite distributions to a specific random Fourier series, as a varies over (Z/pZ)^*, b0 is fixed in (Z/pz)* and p tends to infinity among the odd prime numbers. This article considers the case of S(a,b0;p^n)/p^{n/2}, as a varies over (Z/p^nZ)^*, b0 is fixed in (Z/p^nZ)^*, p tends to infinity among the odd prime numbers and n>=2 is a fixed integer. A convergence in law in the Banach space of complex-valued continuous function on [0,1] is also established, as (a,b) varies over (Z/p^nZ)*.(Z/p^nZ)*, p tends to infinity among the odd prime numbers and n>=2 is a fixed integer. This is the analogue of the result obtained by Emmanuel Kowalski and William Sawin in the prime moduli case.

The amplification method in the GL(3) Hecke algebra

This article contains all of the technical ingredients required to implement an effective, explicit and unconditional amplifier in the context of GL(3) automorphic forms. In particular, several coset decomposition computations in the GL(3) Hecke algebra are explicitly done.

Fourier coefficients of GL(N) automorphic forms in arithmetic progressions

We show that the multiple divisor functions of integers in invertible residue classes modulo a prime number, as well as the Fourier coefficients of GL(N) Maass cusp forms for all N larger than 2, satisfy a central limit theorem in a suitable range, generalizing the case N=2 treated by E. Fouvry, S. Ganguly, E. Kowalski and P. Michel. Such universal Gaussian behaviour relies on a deep equidistribution result of products of hyper-Kloosterman sums.

The second moment of Dirichlet twists of Hecke $L$-functions

Fix a Hecke cusp form $f$, and consider the $L$-function of $f$ twisted by a primitive Dirichlet character. As we range over all primitive characters of a large modulus $q$, what is the average behavior of the square of the central value of this $L$-function? Stefanicki proved an asymptotic valid only for $q$ having very few prime factors, and we extend this to almost all $q$.

Mean-periodicity and zeta functions

This paper establishes new bridges between number theory and modern harmonic analysis, namely between the class of complex functions, which contains zeta functions of arithmetic schemes and closed with respect to product and quotient, and the class of mean-periodic functions in several spaces of functions on the real line. In particular, the meromorphic continuation and functional equation of the zeta function of arithmetic scheme with its expected analytic shape is shown to correspond to mean-periodicity of a certain explicitly defined function associated to the zeta function. This correspondence can be viewed as an extension of the Hecke--Weil correspondence. The case of elliptic curves over number fields and their regular models is treated in more details, and many other examples are included as well.

Comportement asymptotique des hauteurs des points de Heegner

The leading order term for the average, over quadratic discriminants satisfying the so-called Heegner condition, of the Neron-Tate height of Heegner points on a rational elliptic curve E has been determined in [12]. In addition, the second order term has been conjectured. In this paper, we prove that this conjectured second order term is the right one; this yields a power saving in the remainder term. Cancellations of Fourier coefficients of GL(2)-cusp forms in arithmetic progressions lie in the core of the proof.

Lower order terms for the one-level densities of symmetric power $L$-functions in the level aspect

In a previous paper, the authors determined, among other things, the main terms for the one-level densities for low-lying zeros of symmetric power L-functions in the level aspect. In this paper, the lower order terms of these one-level densities are found. The combinatorial difficulties, which should arise in such context, are drastically reduced thanks to Chebyshev polynomials, which are the characters of the irreducible representations of SU(2). %

Statistics for low-lying zeros of symmetric power L-functions in the level aspect

We study one-level and two-level densities for low lying zeros of symmetric power L-functions in the level aspect. It allows us to completely determine the symmetry types of some families of symmetric power L-functions with prescribed sign of functional equation. We also compute the moments of one-level density and exhibit mock-Gaussian behavior discovered by Hughes & Rudnick.

Hauteur asymptotique des points de Heegner

The asymptotic behaviour of the Neron-Tate height of Heegner points on a rational elliptic curve attached to an arithmetically normalized new cusp form f of weight 2, level N and trivial character is studied in this paper. By Gross-Zagier formula, this height is related to the special value at the critical point for the derivative of the Rankin-Selberg convolution of f with a certain weight one theta series attached to some ideal class of some imaginary quadratic field. Asymptotic formula for the first moments asociated to these Dirichlet series are proved and experimental results are carefully discussed.

Real zeros and size of Rankin-Selberg L-functions in the level aspect

In this paper, some asymptotic formulas are proved for the harmonic mollified second moment of a family of Rankin-Selberg L-functions. One of the main new input is a substantial improvement of the admissible length of the mollifier which is done by solving a shifted convolution problem by a spectral method on average. A first consequence is a new subconvexity bound for Rankin-Selberg L-functions in the level aspect. Moreover, infinitely many Rankin-Selberg L-functions having at most eight non-trivial real zeros are produced and some new non-trivial estimates for the analytic rank of the family studied are obtained.
