Rational maps with constant Thurston pullback mapping

In this paper, we study CTP maps, that is, marked rational maps with constant Thurston pullback mapping. We prove that all the regular or mixing CTP polynomials satisfy McMullen's condition. Additionally, we construct a new class of examples of CTP maps.

Invariant graphs in Julia sets and decompositions of rational maps

In this paper, we prove that for any post-critically finite rational map $f$ on the Riemann sphere $\overline{\mathbb{C}}$, and for each sufficiently large integer $n$, there exists a finite and connected graph $G$ in the Julia set of $f$ such that $f^n(G) \subset G$. This graph contains all post-critical points in the Julia set, while every component of $\overline{\mathbb{C}}\setminus G$ contains at most one post-critical point in the Fatou set. The proof relies on the cluster-Sierpinski decomposition of post-critically finite rational maps.

Decomposition of rational maps by stable multicurves

A completely stable multicurve of a post-critically finite rational map induces a combinatorial decomposition. The projections of the small Julia sets are immersed within the original Julia set. We prove that two small Julia sets are disjoint if and only if they are separated by a coiling curve. Furthermore, we prove that a post-critically finite rational map with a coiling curve is renormalizable. Using a similar argument, we give a sufficient condition for a Fatou domain to qualify as a Jordan domain. By tuning polynomails in such a Fatou domain, we provide examples of post-critically finite rational maps with coiling curves.

Invariant graphs of rational maps

Let $f$ be a postcritically finite rational map. We prove that, as $n$ large enough, there exists an $f^n$-invariant (finite connected) graph on $\widehat{\mathbb{C}}$ such that it contains the postcritical set of $f$.

Arbitrary large number of non trivial rescaling limits

We construct a family of rational map sequences providing an arbitrary large number of dynamically independent rescaling limits of non monomial type. From this, we deduce the existence of a family of rational maps providing a non trivial dynamics on the Berkovich projective line over the field of formal Puiseux series.

Rational maps as Schwarzian primitives

We study necessary and sufficient conditions for a meromorphic quadratic differential with prescribed poles to be the Schwarzian derivative of a rational map. We give geometric interpretations of these conditions. We also study the pole-dependency of these Schwarzian derivatives. We show that, in the cubic case, the analytic dependency fails precisely when the poles are displaced at the vertices of a regular ideal tetrahedron of the hyperbolic 3-ball.

Renormalization and wandering continua of rational maps

Renormalizations can be considered as building blocks of complex dynamical systems. This phenomenon has been widely studied for iterations of polynomials of one complex variable. Concerning non-polynomial hyperbolic rational maps, a recent work of Cui-Tan shows that these maps can be decomposed into postcritically finite renormalization pieces. The main purpose of the present work is to perform the surgery one step deeper. Based on Thurston's idea of decompositions along multicurves, we introduce a key notion of Cantor multicurves (a stable multicurve generating infinitely many homotopic curves under pullback), and prove that any postcritically finite piece having a Cantor multicurve can be further decomposed into smaller postcritically finite renormalization pieces. As a byproduct, we establish the presence of separating wandering continua in the corresponding Julia sets. Contrary to the polynomial case, we exploit tools beyond the category of analytic and quasiconformal maps, such as Rees-Shishikura's semi-conjugacy for topological branched coverings that are Thurston-equivalent to rational maps.

Hyperbolic-parabolic deformations of rational maps

We develop a Thurston-like theory to characterize geometrically finite rational maps, then apply it to study pinching and plumbing deformations of rational maps. We show that in certain conditions the pinching path converges uniformly and the quasiconformal conjugacy converges uniformly to a semi-conjugacy from the original map to the limit. Conversely, every geometrically finite rational map with parabolic points is the landing point of a pinching path for any prescribed plumbing combinatorics.

Wandering continua for rational maps

We prove that a Latt' es map admits an eventually simply-connected wandering continuum precisely when it is flexible. The simply-connected wandering continuum is a line segment in a bi-infinite geodesic under the flat metric.

Renormalizations and wandering Jordan curves of rational maps

We realize a dynamical decomposition for a post-critically finite rational map which admits a combinatorial decomposition. We split the Riemann sphere into two completely invariant subsets. One is a subset of the Julia set consisting of uncountably many Jordan curve components. Most of them are wandering. The other consists of components that are pullbacks of finitely many renormalizations, together with possibly uncountably many points. The quotient action on the decomposed pieces is encoded by a dendrite dynamical system. We also introduce a surgery procedure to produce post-critically finite rational maps with wandering Jordan curves and prescribed renormalizations.
