Asymmetric and chiral dynamics of two-component anyons with synthetic gauge flux

In this work, we investigate the non-equilibrium dynamics in a one-dimensional two-component anyon-Hubbard model, which can be mapped to an extended Bose-Hubbard ladder with density-dependent hopping phase and synthetic gauge flux. Through numerical simulations of two-particle dynamics and the symmetry analysis, we reveal the asymmetric transport with broken inversion symmetry and two dynamical symmetries in the expansion dynamics. The expansion of two-component anyons is dynamically symmetric under spatial inversion and component flip, when the sign of anyonic statistics phase or the signs of gauge flux and interaction are changed. In the non-interacting case, we show the dynamical suppression induced by both the statistics phase and gauge flux. In the interacting case, we demonstrate that both chiral and antichiral dynamics can be exhibited and tuned by the statistics phase and gauge flux. The dynamical phase regimes with respect to the chiral-antichiral dynamics are obtained. These findings highlight the rich dynamical phenomena arising from the interplay of anyonic exchange statistics, synthetic gauge fields, and interactions in multi-component anyons.

Reentrant topological phases and entanglement scalings in moiré-modulated extended Su-Schrieffer-Heeger Model

Recent studies of moiré physics have unveiled a wealth of opportunities for significantly advancing the field of quantum phase transitions. However, properties of reentrant phase transitions driven by moiré strength are poorly understood. Here, we investigate the reentrant sequence of phase transitions and the invariant of universality class in moiré-modulated extended Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) model. For the simplified case with intercell hopping $w=0$, we analytically derive renormalization relations of Hamiltonian parameters to explain the reentrant phenomenon. For the general case, numerical phase boundaries are calculated in the thermodynamic limit. The bulk boundary correspondence between zero-energy edge modes and entanglement spectrum is revealed from the degeneracy of both quantities. We also address the correspondence between the central charge obtained from entanglement entropy and the change in winding number during the phase transition. Our results shed light on the understanding of universal characteristics and bulk-boundary correspondence for moiré induced reentrant phase transitions in 1D condensed-matter systems.

Mobility rings in a non-Hermitian non-Abelian quasiperiodic lattice

We study localization and topological properties in spin-1/2 non-reciprocal Aubry-André chain with SU(2) non-Abelian artificial gauge fields. The results reveal that, different from the Abelian case, mobility rings, will emerge in the non-Abelian case accompanied by the non-Hermitian topological phase transition. As the non-Hermitian extension of mobility edges, such mobility rings separate Anderson localized eigenstates from extended eigenstates in the complex energy plane under the periodic boundary condition. Based on the topological properties, we obtain the exact expression of the mobility rings. Furthermore, the corresponding indicators such as inverse participation rate, normalized participation ratio, winding number, non-Hermitian spectral structures and wave functions are numerically studied. The numerical results are in good agreement with the analytical expression, which confirms the emergence of mobility rings.

Reentrant topological phases and spin density wave induced by 1D moiré potentials

Recent studies of 2D moiré materials have opened opportunities for advancing condensed matter physics. However, the effect of 1D moiré potentials on topological and correlated phases remains largely unexplored. Here we reveal a sequence of trivial-to-topological transitions and periodic-moiré-spin density waves induced by the 1D commensurate moiré potentials for spin-1/2 fermionic atoms. Such reentrant topology from a trivial phase is absent without the moiré potential and can be understood as the renormalization of topological parameters by the moiré strength. We then unveil the critical exponent and localization properties of the single-particle eigenstates. The periodic spin density wave of many-body ground states is contributed by the moiré potential, and is enhanced by on-site interactions but suppressed by nearest-neighbor interactions. Our results enrich the topological physics with multiple transitions and spin-density orders in 1D moiré systems, and the realization of the proposed model is promising in near-future ultracold atom setups.

Critical properties in the non-Hermitian Aubry-Andre-Stark model

We explore the critical properties of the localization transition in the non-Hermitian Aubry-Andre-Stark (AAS) model with quasiperiodic and Stark potentials, where the non-Hermiticity comes from the nonreciprocal hopping. The localization length, the inverse participation ratio and the energy gap are adopted as the characteristic quantities. We perform the scaling analysis to derive the scaling functions of the three quantities with critical exponents in several critical regions, with respect to the quasiperiodic and Stark potentials and the nonreciprocal strength. We numerically verify the finite-size scaling forms and extract the critical exponents in different situations. Two groups of new critical exponents for the non-Hermitian AAS model and its pure Stark limit are obtained, which are distinct to those for the non-Hermitian Aubry-Andre model and their Hermitian counterparts. Our results indicate that the Hermitian and non-Hermitian AAS, Aubry-Andre, and Stark models belong to different universality classes. We demonstrate that these critical exponents are independent of the nonreciprocal strength, and remain the same in different critical regions and boundary conditions. Furthermore, we establish a hybrid scaling function with a hybrid exponent in the overlap region between the critical regions for the non-Hermitian AAS and Stark models.

Antichiral and trap-skin dynamics in a nonreciprocal bosonic two-leg ladder with artificial magnetic flux

Non-Hermiticity and synthetic gauge fields play two fundamental roles in engineering exotic phases and dynamics in artificial quantum systems. Here we explore the mean-field dynamics of interacting bosons in a two-leg ladder with synthetic magnetic flux and nonreciprocal hopping under the open boundary condition. In the Hermitian limit, we showcase the breakdown of the flux-driven chiral dynamics due to the nonlinear self-trapping effect. We further find that the nonreciprocity can drive the transition between chiral dynamics and antichiral dynamics. The antichiral motion is manifested as the non-Hermitian skin dynamics along the same direction on two legs that are not suppressed by the magnetic flux, while the chiral-antichiral transition is flux-tunable. We also reveal the trap-skin dynamics with the coexistence of the self-tapping and skin dynamics in the ladder. Dynamical phase diagrams with respect to the chiral-antichiral dynamics, skin dynamics, self-trapping dynamics, and trap-skin dynamics are presented. Our results shed light on intriguing dynamical phenomena under the interplay among non-Hermiticity, nonlinearity, and artificial gauge fields.

Stabilizing confined quasiparticle dynamics in one-dimensional polar lattice gases

The disorder-free localization that occurred in the study of relaxation dynamics in far-from-equilibrium quantum systems has been widely explored. Here we investigate the interplay between the dipole-dipole interaction (DDI) and disorder in the hard-core polar bosons in a one-dimensional lattice. We find that the localized dynamics will eventually thermalize in the clean gas, but can be stabilized with the existence of a small disorder proportional to the inverse of DDI strength. From the effective dimer Hamiltonian, we show that the effective second-order hopping of quasiparticles between nearest-neighbor sites is suppressed by the disorder with strength similar to the effective hopping amplitude. The significant gap between the largest two eigenvalues of the entanglement spectrum indicates the dynamical confinement. We also find that the disorder related sample-to-sample fluctuation is suppressed by the DDI. Finally, we extend our research from the uncorrelated random disorder to the correlated quasiperiodic disorder and from the two-dimer model to the half-filling system, obtaining similar results.

Quantized Topological Anderson-Thouless Pump

Thouless pump with quantized transports is topologically robust against small perturbations and disorders, while breaks down under sufficiently strong disorders. Here we propose counter-intuitive topological pumps induced by disorders in noninteracting and interacting systems. We first show an extrinsic topological pump driven by the on-site quasiperiodic potential for a two-loop sequence, where the disorder inequivalently suppresses the topology of two pump loops. Moreover, we reveal an intrinsic topological pump induced by the hopping quasiperiodic disorder from a trivial single-loop pump in the clean limit, dubbed the topological Anderson-Thouless pump (TATP) as a dynamical analogue of topological Anderson insulators. We demonstrate that the mechanism of the TATP is the disorder-induced shift of gapless critical points and the TATP can even exhibit in the dynamic disorder and interacting cases. Finally, we extend the TATP to higher-order topological systems with disorder-induced quantized corner transports. Our proposed TATPs present new members of the topological pump family and could be realized with ultracold atoms or photonic waveguides.

Topological Anderson insulators with different bulk states in quasiperiodic chains

We investigate the topology and localization of one-dimensional Hermitian and non-Hermitian Su-Schrieffer-Heeger chains with quasiperiodic hopping modulations. In the Hermitian case, phase diagrams are obtained by numerically and analytically calculating various topological and localization characters. We show the presence of topological extended, intermediate, and localized phases due to the coexistence of independent topological and localization phase transitions driven by the quasiperiodic disorder. Unlike the gapless and localized TAI phase in one-dimensional random disordered systems, we uncover three types of quasiperiodic-disorder-induced gapped topological Anderson insulators (TAIs) with extended, intermediate (with mobility edges), and localized bulk states in this chiral chain. Moreover, we study the non-Hermitian effects on the TAIs by considering two kinds of non-Hermiticities from the non-conjugate complex hopping phase and asymmetric hopping strength, respectively. We demonstrate that three types of TAIs preserve under the non-Hermitian perturbations with some unique localization and topological properties, such as the non-Hermitian real-complex and localization transitions and their topological nature. Our work demonstrates that the disorder-induced TAIs in Hermitian and non-Hermitian quasiperiodic systems are not tied to Anderson transitions and have various localization properties.

Topological Anderson insulators induced by random binary disorders

Different disorders lead to various localization and topological phenomena in condensed matter and artificial systems. Here we study the topological and localization properties in one-dimensional Su-Schrieffer-Heeger model with spatially correlated random binary disorders. It is found that random binary disorders can induce the topological Anderson insulating phase from the trivial insulator in various parameter regions. The topological Anderson insulators are characterized by the disorder-averaged winding number and localized bulk states revealed by the inverse participation ratio in both real and momentum spaces. We show that the topological phase boundaries are consistent with the analytical results of the self-consistent Born approach and the localization length of zero-energy modes, and discuss how the bimodal probability affects the disorder-induced topological phases. The topological characters can be detected from the mean chiral displacement in atomic or photonic systems. Our work provides an extension of the topological Anderson insulators to the case of correlated disorders.

Interplay of nonreciprocity and nonlinearity on mean-field energy and dynamics of a Bose-Einstein condensate in a double-well potential

We investigate the mean-field energy spectrum and dynamics in a Bose-Einstein condensate in a double-well potential with non-Hermiticity from the nonreciprocal hopping, and show that the interplay of nonreciprocity and nonlinearity leads to exotic properties. Under the two-mode and mean-field approximations, the nonreciprocal generalization of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation and Bloch equations of motion for this system are obtained. We analyze the PT phase diagram and the dynamical stability of fixed points. The reentrance of PT-symmetric phase and the reformation of stable fixed points with increasing the nonreciprocity parameter are found. Besides, we uncover a linear self-trapping effect induced by the nonreciprocity. In the nonlinear case, the self-trapping oscillation is enhanced by the nonreciprocity and then collapses in the PT-broken phase, and can finally be recovered in the reentrant PT-symmetric phase.

Connecting Topological Anderson and Mott Insulators in Disordered Interacting Fermionic Systems

The topological Anderson and Mott insulators are two phases that have so far been separately and widely explored beyond topological band insulators. Here we combine the two seemingly different topological phases into a system of spin-1/2 interacting fermionic atoms in a disordered optical lattice. We find that the topological Anderson and Mott insulators in the noninteracting and clean limits can be adiabatically connected without gap closing in the phase diagram of our model. Lying between the two phases, we uncover a disordered correlated topological insulator, which is induced from a trivial band insulator by the combination of disorder and interaction, as the generalization of topological Anderson insulators to the many-body interacting regime. The phase diagram is determined by computing various topological properties and confirmed by unsupervised and automated machine learning. We develop an approach to provide a unified and clear description of topological phase transitions driven by interaction and disorder. The topological phases can be detected from disorder/interaction induced edge excitations and charge pumping in optical lattices.

Localization and topological transitions in non-Hermitian quasiperiodic lattices

We investigate the localization and topological transitions in a one-dimensional (interacting) non-Hermitian quasiperiodic lattice, which is described by a generalized Aubry-André-Harper model with irrational modulations in the off-diagonal hopping and on-site potential and with non-Hermiticities from the nonreciprocal hopping and complex potential phase. For noninteracting cases, we reveal that the nonreciprocal hopping (the complex potential phase) can enlarge the delocalization (localization) region in the phase diagrams spanned by two quasiperiodical modulation strengths. We show that the localization transition are always accompanied by a topological phase transition characterized the winding numbers of eigenenergies in three different non-Hermitian cases. Moreover, we find that a real-complex eigenenergy transition in the energy spectrum coincides with (occurs before) these two phase transitions in the nonreciprocal (complex potential) case, while the real-complex transition is absent under the coexistence of the two non-Hermiticities. For interacting spinless fermions, we demonstrate that the extended phase and the many-body localized phase can be identified by the entanglement entropy of eigenstates and the level statistics of complex eigenenergies. By making the critical scaling analysis, we further show that the many-body localization transition coincides with the real-complex transition and occurs before the topological transition in the nonreciprocal case, which are absent in the complex phase case.

Machine learning topological invariants of non-Hermitian systems

The study of topological properties by machine learning approaches has attracted considerable interest recently. Here we propose machine learning the topological invariants that are unique in non-Hermitian systems. Specifically, we train neural networks to predict the winding of eigenvalues of four prototypical non-Hermitian Hamiltonians on the complex energy plane with nearly $100\%$ accuracy. Our demonstrations in the non-Hermitian Hatano-Nelson model, Su-Schrieffer-Heeger model and generalized Aubry-André-Harper model in one dimension, and two-dimensional Dirac fermion model with non-Hermitian terms show the capability of the neural networks in exploring topological invariants and the associated topological phase transitions and topological phase diagrams in non-Hermitian systems. Moreover, the neural networks trained by a small data set in the phase diagram can successfully predict topological invariants in untouched phase regions. Thus, our work paves the way to revealing non-Hermitian topology with the machine learning toolbox.

Statistically related many-body localization in the one-dimensional anyon Hubbard model

Many-body localization (MBL) has been widely investigated for both fermions and bosons, it is, however, much less explored for anyons. Here we numerically calculate several physical characteristics related to MBL of a one-dimensional disordered anyon-Hubbard model in both localized and delocalized regions. We figure out a logarithmically slow growth of the half-chain entanglement entropy and an area-law rather than volume-law obedience for the highly excited eigenstates in the MBL phase. The adjacent energy level gap-ratio parameter is calculated and is found to exhibit a Poisson-like probability distribution in the deep MBL phase. By studying a hybridization parameter, we reveal an intriguing effect that the statistics can induce localization-delocalization transition. Several physical quantities, such as the half-chain entanglement, the adjacent energy level gap-ratio parameter, {\color{black} the long-time limit of the particle imbalance}, and the critical disorder strength, are shown to be non-monotonically dependent on the anyon statistical angle. Furthermore, a feasible scheme based on the spectroscopy of energy levels is proposed for the experimental observation of these statistically related properties.

Skin superfluid, topological Mott insulators, and asymmetric dynamics in interacting non-Hermitian Aubry-Andre-Harper models

Non-Hermitian quantum many-body systems are a fascinating subject to be explored. Using the generalized density matrix renormalisation group method and complementary exact diagonalization, we elucidate the many-body ground states and dynamics of a 1D interacting non-Hermitian Aubry-Andre-Harper model for bosons. We find stable ground states in the superfluid and Mott insulating regimes under wide range of conditions in this model. We reveal a skin superfluid state induced by the non-Hermiticity from the nonreciprocal hopping. We investigate the topology of the Mott insulating phase and find its independence of the non-Hermiticity. The topological Mott insulators in this non-Hermitian system are characterized by four equal Chern numbers and a quantized shift of biorthogonal many-body polarizations. Furthermore, we show generic asymmetric expansion and correlation dynamics in the system.

Topological Anderson insulators in two-dimensional non-Hermitian disordered systems

The interplay among topology, disorder, and non-Hermiticity can induce some exotic topological and localization phenomena. Here we investigate this interplay in a two-dimensional non-Hermitian disordered Chern-insulator model with two typical kinds of non-Hermiticities, the nonreciprocal hopping and on-site gain-and-loss effects. The topological phase diagrams are obtained by numerically calculating two topological invariants in the real space, which are the disorder-averaged open-bulk Chern number and the generalized Bott index, respectively. We reveal that the nonreciprocal hopping (the gain-and-loss effect) can enlarge (reduce) the topological regions and the topological Anderson insulators induced by disorders can exist under both kinds of non-Hermiticities. Furthermore, we study the localization properties of the system in the topologically nontrivial and trivial regions by using the inverse participation ratio and the expansion of single particle density distribution.

Continuous-variable assisted thermal quantum simulation

Simulation of a quantum many-body system at finite temperatures is crucially important but quite challenging. Here we present an experimentally feasible quantum algorithm assisted with continuous-variable for simulating quantum systems at finite temperatures. Our algorithm has a time complexity scaling polynomially with the inverse temperature and the desired accuracy. We demonstrate the quantum algorithm by simulating finite temperature phase diagram of the Kitaev model. It is found that the important crossover phase diagram of the Kitaev ring can be accurately simulated by a quantum computer with only a few qubits and thus the algorithm may be readily implemented on current quantum processors. We further propose a protocol implementable with superconducting or trapped ion quantum computers.
