DTER: Schedule Optimal RF Energy Request and Harvest for Internet of Things

We propose a new energy harvesting strategy that uses a dedicated energy source (ES) to optimally replenish energy for radio frequency (RF) energy harvesting powered Internet of Things. Specifically, we develop a two-step dual tunnel energy requesting (DTER) strategy that minimizes the energy consumption on both the energy harvesting device and the ES. Besides the causality and capacity constraints that are investigated in the existing approaches, DTER also takes into account the overhead issue and the nonlinear charge characteristics of an energy storage component to make the proposed strategy practical. Both offline and online scenarios are considered in the second step of DTER. To solve the nonlinear optimization problem of the offline scenario, we convert the design of offline optimal energy requesting problem into a classic shortest path problem and thus a global optimal solution can be obtained through dynamic programming (DP) algorithms. The online suboptimal transmission strategy is developed as well. Simulation study verifies that the online strategy can achieve almost the same energy efficiency as the global optimal solution in the long term.

Euler evolution of a concentrated vortex in planar bounded domains

In this paper, we consider the time evolution of an ideal fluid in a planar bounded domain. We prove that if the initial vorticity is supported in a sufficiently small region with diameter $\varepsilon$, then the time evolved vorticity is also supported in a small region with diameter $d$, $d\leq C\varepsilon^α$ for any $α<\frac{1}{3}$, and the center of the vorticity tends to the point vortex, the motion of which is described by the Kirchhoff-Routh equation.

Steady double vortex patches with opposite signs in a planar ideal fluid

In this paper we consider steady vortex flows for the incompressible Euler equations in a planar bounded domain. By solving a variational problem for the vorticity, we construct steady double vortex patches with opposite signs concentrating at a strict local minimum point of the Kirchhoff-Routh function with $k=2$. Moreover, we show that such steady solutions are in fact local maximizers of the kinetic energy among isovortical patches, which correlates stability to uniqueness.

An Automated Auto-encoder Correlation-based Health-Monitoring and Prognostic Method for Machine Bearings

This paper studies an intelligent ultimate technique for health-monitoring and prognostic of common rotary machine components, particularly bearings. During a run-to-failure experiment, rich unsupervised features from vibration sensory data are extracted by a trained sparse auto-encoder. Then, the correlation of the extracted attributes of the initial samples (presumably healthy at the beginning of the test) with the succeeding samples is calculated and passed through a moving-average filter. The normalized output is named auto-encoder correlation-based (AEC) rate which stands for an informative attribute of the system depicting its health status and precisely identifying the degradation starting point. We show that AEC technique well-generalizes in several run-to-failure tests. AEC collects rich unsupervised features form the vibration data fully autonomous. We demonstrate the superiority of the AEC over many other state-of-the-art approaches for the health monitoring and prognostic of machine bearings.
