Chaos bound violation by spinning particles in Gauss-Bonnet-AdS black holes

In this work, we investigate the violation of the chaos bound for spinning test particles in Gauss-Bonnet anti-de Sitter spacetime, focusing on the regulatory roles of the Gauss-Bonnet parameter and spacetime dimensionality. In five-dimensional space time, the Lyapunov exponent grows monotonically with particle spin. In contrast, in eight- and nine-dimensional spacetimes, it exhibits non-monotonic behavior-first decreasing and then increasing-reflecting the nonlinear nature of higher-dimensional tensor couplings. The Gauss-Bonnet parameter significantly modulates the violation by reshaping the near-horizon geometry: in five dimensions, the deviation of the Lyapunov exponent from the surface gravity first increases and then decreases with the Gauss-Bonnet parameter, whereas in the higher dimensions the bound is more easily violated. Increasing the total angular momentum of the particle also enhances chaos; however, when the Gauss-Bonnet parameter and black hole charge are small, the spacetime dimensionality, rather than the angular momentum, dominates. These results establish the spacetime dimensionality and the Gauss-Bonnet parameter as important factors governing the validity of the chaos bound in modified gravity theories.

Newton Method for Soft Quadratic Surface Support Vector Machine with 0-1 Loss Function

A nonlinear kernel-free soft quadratic surface support vector machine model with 0-1 loss function ($L_{0/1}$-SQSSVM) is proposed for binary classification problems, which is non-convex discontinuous. We are devoted to establishing the first and the second-order optimality conditions for the $L_{0/1}$-SQSSVM. We establish a stationary equation using the properties of proximal operator of 0-1 loss function. We design a Newton method based on the stationary equation to solve $L_{0/1}$-SQSSVM model and prove that the Newton method has local quadratic convergence under the second-order sufficient condition. Numerical experience on artificial datasets and benchmark datasets demonstrate that the Newton method for $L_{0/1}$-SQSSVM achieves higher classification accuracy with less CPU time cost than other state-of-the-art methods.

Testing the chaos bound in the spinor field of Einstein-Euler-Heisenberg-Anti-de Sitter spacetime

Violations of the chaos bound have been observed in scalar fields. In this work, we investigate the Lyapunov exponents of chaotic particles in the spinor field of an Einstein-Euler-Heisenberg-Anti-de Sitter spacetime, and test the validity of the chaos bound in this field. The influences of the black hole charge, the Euler-Heisenberg constant, cosmological constant, particle charge and total angular momentum on the exponents are analyzed. With other parameters fixed, chaos bound violations occur only within specific ranges of black hole charge, particle spin, or total angular momentum-unlike in Reissner-Nordstr\"om spacetimes, where violations intensify with larger parameter values. Notably, anti-alignment of particle spin with the $z$-axis can trigger violations even for small cosmological constants, while no violations arise for the spin aligned with the $z$-axis regardless of the cosmological constant. Our results show that the cosmological constant drastically reshapes chaos bound violation conditions compared to Reissner-Nordstr\"om spacetimes, highlighting the spin's pivotal role in chaos onset.

Natural resources balance sheets accounting: theoretical framework and practice in the Shaanxi province of China

To achieve sustainable development, there is widespread of the need to protect natural resource and improve government oversight in achieving China's economic security and ecological civilization. Compilation of natural resources balance sheet (NRBS) and enhancement of resources management are becoming an important topic in China. How to compile NRBS to affix the responsibility for government and officials for inadequate supervision is still not resolved satisfactorily. This paper proposes the NRBS to enable governments to identify the importance of natural resource restoration and to hold leading cadres accountable for a lack of adequate supervision. The NRBS consist of three accounts: natural resource assets, natural resource liabilities, and net worth. Important components of the NRBS for the liabilities account with a property rights regime are developed to measure and assign responsibility. The compilation of an NRBS is applied to the Chinese province of Shaanxi as an illustration to demonstrate that the accounting framework and the compilation steps are tractable using financial methods and available data. The accounting results of natural resource assets and liabilities unveil the threat to resource management and the policy implications to government and officials. Finally, the advantages and limitations of NRBS are discussed.

Unambiguous identification of the indirect band nature of atomically thin hexagonal boron nitride

Atomically thin hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN), especially monolayer, has garnered increasing attention due to its intriguing optical and light-matter-interaction properties. However, its intrinsic optical properties and electronic band structure, have long remained elusive. In this study, near-resonance excited deep-UV photoluminescence/Raman spectroscopy and deep-UV reflectance contrast spectroscopy are utilized to experimentally investigate the optical properties of atomically thin h-BN across various layer numbers. It is revealed that the absence of luminescence in 1-3 layers h-BN is indicative of their indirect band gap nature, rectifying previously adopted identification of a direct band gap in monolayer BN. Notably, band-edge luminescence signals and indirect bandgap absorption start to appear in 4-layer, and the luminescence intensity increases with the number of layers, suggesting that interlayer interactions and periodicity along the z-axis enhance phonon-assisted indirect bandgap transition, even in the 4-layer case, and furthermore indicating the formation process of flat bands at the K and M valleys as the periodicity along the z direction increases. Additionally, the prominent resonance Raman signals in atomically thin h-BN underscore strong electron-phonon coupling in this material.

Overview of the LAMOST survey in the first decade

The Large Sky Area Multi-Object Fiber Spectroscopic Telescope (LAMOST), also known as the Guoshoujing Telescope, is a major national scientific facility for astronomical research located in Xinglong, China. Beginning with a pilot survey in 2011, LAMOST has been surveying the night sky for more than 10 years. The LAMOST survey covers various objects in the Universe, from normal stars to peculiar ones, from the Milky Way to other galaxies, and from stellar black holes and their companions to quasars that ignite ancient galaxies. Until the latest data release 8, the LAMOST survey has released spectra for more than 10 million stars, ~220,000 galaxies, and ~71,000 quasars. With this largest celestial spectra database ever constructed, LAMOST has helped astronomers to deepen their understanding of the Universe, especially for our Milky Way galaxy and the millions of stars within it. In this article, we briefly review the characteristics, observations, and scientific achievements of LAMOST. In particular, we show how astrophysical knowledge about the Milky Way has been improved by LAMOST data.

LAMOST Spectroscopic Survey of the Galactic Anticentre (LSS-GAC): the second release of value-added catalogues

We present the second release of value-added catalogues of the LAMOST Spectroscopic Survey of the Galactic Anticentre (LSS-GAC DR2). The catalogues present values of radial velocity $V_{\rm r}$, atmospheric parameters --- effective temperature $T_{\rm eff}$, surface gravity log$g$, metallicity [Fe/H], $\alpha$-element to iron (metal) abundance ratio [$\alpha$/Fe] ([$\alpha$/M]), elemental abundances [C/H] and [N/H], and absolute magnitudes ${\rm M}_V$ and ${\rm M}_{K_{\rm s}}$ deduced from 1.8 million spectra of 1.4 million unique stars targeted by the LSS-GAC since September 2011 until June 2014. The catalogues also give values of interstellar reddening, distance and orbital parameters determined with a variety of techniques, as well as proper motions and multi-band photometry from the far-UV to the mid-IR collected from the literature and various surveys. Accuracies of radial velocities reach 5kms$^{-1}$ for late-type stars, and those of distance estimates range between 10 -- 30 per cent, depending on the spectral signal-to-noise ratios. Precisions of [Fe/H], [C/H] and [N/H] estimates reach 0.1dex, and those of [$\alpha$/Fe] and [$\alpha$/M] reach 0.05dex. The large number of stars, the contiguous sky coverage, the simple yet non-trivial target selection function and the robust estimates of stellar radial velocities and atmospheric parameters, distances and elemental abundances, make the catalogues a valuable data set to study the structure and evolution of the Galaxy, especially the solar-neighbourhood and the outer disk.

Strong Gravitational Lensing in the Einstein-Proca Theory

Adopting the strong field limit approach, we investigate the strong gravitational lensing of a spherically symmetric spacetime in the Einstein-Proca theory. With the strong field limit coefficient, three observable quantities are obtained, which are the innermost relativistic image, the deflection angle and the ratio of the flux. Comparing the observable value and the theoretical value of the strong gravitational lensing, we can verify the effectiveness of the strong gravitational lensing model.

Relative Flux Calibration of the LAMOST Spectroscopic Survey of the Galactic Anti-center

We have developed and implemented an iterative algorithm of flux calibration for the LAMOST Spectroscopic Survey of the Galactic anti-center (LSS-GAC). For a given LSS-GAC plate, the spectra are first processed with a set of nominal spectral response curves (SRCs) and used to derive initial stellar atmospheric parameters (effective temperature $T_{\rm eff}$, surface gravity log\,$g$ and metallicity [Fe/H]) as well as dust reddening $E(B-V)$ of all targeted stars. For each of the sixteen spectrographs, several F-type stars of good signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs) are then selected as flux standard stars for further, iterative spectral flux calibration. Comparison of spectrophotometric colours, deduced from the flux-calibrated spectra, with the photometric measurements yields average differences of 0.02$\pm$0.07 and $-$0.04$\pm$0.09\,mag for the $(g-r)$ and $(g-i)$, respectively. The relatively large negative offset in $(g-i)$ is due to the fact that we have opted not to correct for the telluric bands, most notably the atmospheric A-band in the wavelength range of $i$-band. Comparison of LSS-GAC multi-epoch observations of duplicate targets indicates that the algorithm has achieved an accuracy of about 10 per cent in relative flux calibration for the wavelength range 4000 -- 9000\,\AA. The shapes of SRC deduced for the individual LAMOST spectrographs are found to vary by up to 30 per cent for a given night, and larger for different nights, indicating that the derivation of SRCs for the individual plates is essential in order to achieve accurate flux calibration for the LAMOST spectra.

The LAMOST Stellar Parameter Pipeline at Peking University --- LSP3

We introduce the LAMOST Stellar Parameter Pipeline at Peking University --- LSP3, developed and implemented for the determinations of radial velocity $V_{\rm r}$ and stellar atmospheric parameters (effective temperature $T_{\rm eff}$, surface gravity log\,$g$, metallicity [Fe/H]) for the LAMOST Spectroscopic Survey of the Galactic Anti-center (LSS-GAC). We describe the algorithms of LSP3 and examine the accuracy of parameters yielded by it. The precision and accuracy of parameters yielded are investigated by comparing results of multi-epoch observations and of candidate members of open and globular clusters, with photometric calibration, as well as with independent determinations available from a number of external databases, including the PASTEL archive, the APOGEE, SDSS and RAVE surveys, as well as those released in the LAMOST DR1. The uncertainties of LSP3 parameters are characterized and quantified as a function of the spectral signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and stellar atmospheric parameters. We conclude that the current implementation of LSP3 has achieved an accuracy of 5.0\,km\,s$^{-1}$, 150\,K, 0.25\,dex, 0.15\,dex for the radial velocity, effective temperature, surface gravity and metallicity, respectively, for LSS-GAC spectra of FGK stars of SNRs per pixel higher than 10. The LSP3 has been applied to over a million LSS-GAC spectra collected hitherto. Stellar parameters yielded by the LSP3 will be released to the general public following the data policy of LAMOST, together with estimates of the interstellar extinction $E(B-V)$ and stellar distances, deduced by combining spectroscopic and multi-band photometric measurements using a variety of techniques.

LAMOST Spectroscopic Survey of the Galactic Anti-centre (LSS-GAC): target selection and the first release of value-added catalogues

As a major component of the LAMOST Galactic surveys, the LAMOST Spectroscopic Survey of the Galactic Anti-centre (LSS-GAC) aims to survey a significant volume of the Galactic thin/thick discs and halo for a contiguous sky area of over 3,400 deg$^2$ centred on the Galactic anti-centre ($|b| \leq 30^{\circ}$, $150 \leq l \leq 210^{\circ}$), and obtain $\lambda\lambda$3700 -- 9000 low resolution ($R \sim 1,800$) spectra for a statistically complete sample of $\sim 3$\,M stars of all colours down to a limiting magnitued of $r$ $\sim$ 17.8\,mag (to 18.5\,mag for limited fields). Together with Gaia, the LSS-GAC will yield a unique dataset to advance our understanding of the structure and assemblage history of the Galaxy, in particular its disk(s). In addition to the main survey, the LSS-GAC will also target hundreds of thousands objects in the vicinity fields of M\,31 and M\,33 and survey a significant fraction (over a million) of randomly selected very bright stars (VB; $r \le 14$ mag) in the northern hemisphere. During the Pilot and the first year Regular Surveys of LAMOST, a total of 1,042,586 [750,867] spectra of a signal to noise ratio S/N(7450\AA) $\ge$ 10 [S/N(4650\AA) $\ge$ 10] have been collected. In this paper, we present a detailed description of the target selection algorithm, survey design, observations and the first data release of value-added catalogues (including radial velocities, effective temperatures, surface gravities, metallicities, values of interstellar extinction, distances, proper motions and orbital parameters) of the LSS-GAC.

Research of the active reflector antenna using laser angle metrology system

Active reflector is one of the key technologies for constructing large telescopes, especially for the millimeter/sub-millimeter radio telescopes. This article introduces a new efficient laser angle metrology system for the active reflector antenna of the large radio telescopes, with a plenty of active reflector experiments mainly about the detecting precisions and the maintaining of the surface shape in real time, on the 65-meter radio telescope prototype constructed by Nanjing Institute of Astronomical Optics and Technology (NIAOT). The test results indicate that the accuracy of the surface shape segmenting and maintaining is up to micron dimension, and the time-response can be of the order of minutes. Therefore, it is proved to be workable for the sub-millimeter radio telescopes.
