The Representation Aspect of the Generalized Hydrogen Atoms

Let $D\ge 1$ be an integer. In the Enright-Howe-Wallach classification list of the unitary highest weight modules of $\widetilde{\mr{Spin}}(2, D+1)$, the (nontrivial) Wallach representations in Case II, Case III, and the mirror of Case III are special in the sense that they are precisely the ones that can be realized by the Hilbert space of bound states for a generalized hydrogen atom in dimension D. It has been shown recently that each of these special Wallach representations can be realized as the space of L^2-sections of a canonical hermitian bundle over the punctured ${\bb R}^D$. Here a simple algebraic characterization of these special Wallach representations is found.

Generalized MICZ-Kepler Problems and Unitary Highest Weight Modules

For each integer $n\ge 1$, we demonstrate that a $(2n+1)$-dimensional generalized MICZ-Kepler problem has an $\mr{Spin}(2, 2n+2)$ dynamical symmetry which extends the manifest $\mr{Spin}(2n+1)$ symmetry. The Hilbert space of bound states is shown to form a unitary highest weight $\mr{Spin}(2, 2n+2)$-module which occurs at the first reduction point in the Enright-Howe-Wallach classification diagram for the unitary highest weight modules. As a byproduct, we get a simple geometric realization for such a unitary highest weight $\mr{Spin}(2, 2n+2)$-module.

Generalized MICZ-Kepler Problems and Unitary Highest Weight Modules -- II

For each integer $n\ge 2$, we demonstrate that a 2n-dimensional generalized MICZ-Kepler problem has an $\widetilde{\mr{Spin}}(2, 2n+1)$ dynamical symmetry which extends the manifest $\mr{Spin}(2n)$ symmetry. The Hilbert space of bound states is shown to form a unitary highest weight $\widetilde{\mr{Spin}}(2, 2n+1)$-module which occurs at the first reduction point in the Enright-Howe-Wallach classification diagram for the unitary highest weight modules. As a byproduct, we get a simple geometric realization for such a unitary highest weight $\widetilde{\mr{Spin}}(2, 2n+1)$-module.

The MICZ-Kepler Problems in All Dimensions

The Kepler problem is a physical problem about two bodies which attract each other by a force proportional to the inverse square of the distance. The MICZ-Kepler problems are its natural cousins and have been previously generalized from dimension three to dimension five. In this paper, we construct and analyze the (quantum) MICZ-Kepler problems in all dimensions higher than two.

Dirac and Yang Monopoles Revisited

The Dirac monopoles in 3-space and their generalization by C. N. Yang to 5-space are observed to be just the Levi-Civita spin connection of the cylindrical Riemannian metric on the 3- and 5- dimensional punctured spaces. Their straightforward generalization to higher dimensions is also investigated.

Legendre Transform, Hessian Conjecture and Tree Formula

Let $ϕ$ be a polynomial over $K$ (a field of characteristic 0) such that the Hessian of $ϕ$ is a nonzero constant. Let $\barϕ$ be the formal Legendre Transform of $ϕ$. Then $\barϕ$ is well-defined as a formal power series over $K$. The Hessian Conjecture introduced here claims that $\barϕ$ is actually a polynomial. This conjecture is shown to be true when $K=\bb{R}$ and the Hessian matrix of $ϕ$ is either positive or negative definite somewhere. It is also shown to be equivalent to the famous Jacobian Conjecture. Finally, a tree formula for $\barϕ$ is derived; as a consequence, the tree inversion formula of Gurja and Abyankar is obtained.

Geometric construction of the Quantum Hall Effect in all even dimensions

The Quantum Hall Effects in all even dimensions are uniformly constructed. Contrary to some recent accounts in the literature, the existence of Quantum Hall Effects does not {\it crucially} depend on the existence of division algebras. For QHE on flat space of even dimensions, both the Hamiltonians and the ground state wave-functions for a single particle are explicitly described. This explicit description immediately tells us that QHE on a higher even dimensional flat space shares the common features such as incompressibility with QHE on plane.

A path integral derivation of $χ_y$-genus

The formula for the Hirzebruch $χ_y$-genus of complex manifolds is a consequence of the Hirzebruch-Riemann-Roch formula. The classical index formulae for Todd genus, Euler number, and Signature correspond to the case when the complex variable $y=$ 0, -1, and 1 respectively. Here we give a {\it direct} derivation of this nice formula based on supersymmetric quantum mechanics.
