Language-Depth Navigated Thermal and Visible Image Fusion

Depth-guided multimodal fusion combines depth information from visible and infrared images, significantly enhancing the performance of 3D reconstruction and robotics applications. Existing thermal-visible image fusion mainly focuses on detection tasks, ignoring other critical information such as depth. By addressing the limitations of single modalities in low-light and complex environments, the depth information from fused images not only generates more accurate point cloud data, improving the completeness and precision of 3D reconstruction, but also provides comprehensive scene understanding for robot navigation, localization, and environmental perception. This supports precise recognition and efficient operations in applications such as autonomous driving and rescue missions. We introduce a text-guided and depth-driven infrared and visible image fusion network. The model consists of an image fusion branch for extracting multi-channel complementary information through a diffusion model, equipped with a text-guided module, and two auxiliary depth estimation branches. The fusion branch uses CLIP to extract semantic information and parameters from depth-enriched image descriptions to guide the diffusion model in extracting multi-channel features and generating fused images. These fused images are then input into the depth estimation branches to calculate depth-driven loss, optimizing the image fusion network. This framework aims to integrate vision-language and depth to directly generate color-fused images from multimodal inputs.

Vision-Language Embodiment for Monocular Depth Estimation

Depth estimation is a core problem in robotic perception and vision tasks, but 3D reconstruction from a single image presents inherent uncertainties. Current depth estimation models primarily rely on inter-image relationships for supervised training, often overlooking the intrinsic information provided by the camera itself. We propose a method that embodies the camera model and its physical characteristics into a deep learning model, computing embodied scene depth through real-time interactions with road environments. The model can calculate embodied scene depth in real-time based on immediate environmental changes using only the intrinsic properties of the camera, without any additional equipment. By combining embodied scene depth with RGB image features, the model gains a comprehensive perspective on both geometric and visual details. Additionally, we incorporate text descriptions containing environmental content and depth information as priors for scene understanding, enriching the model's perception of objects. This integration of image and language - two inherently ambiguous modalities - leverages their complementary strengths for monocular depth estimation. The real-time nature of the embodied language and depth prior model ensures that the model can continuously adjust its perception and behavior in dynamic environments. Experimental results show that the embodied depth estimation method enhances model performance across different scenes.

Underground Mapping and Localization Based on Ground-Penetrating Radar

3D object reconstruction based on deep neural networks has gained increasing attention in recent years. However, 3D reconstruction of underground objects to generate point cloud maps remains a challenge. Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) is one of the most powerful and extensively used tools for detecting and locating underground objects such as plant root systems and pipelines, with its cost-effectiveness and continuously evolving technology. This paper introduces a parabolic signal detection network based on deep convolutional neural networks, utilizing B-scan images from GPR sensors. The detected keypoints can aid in accurately fitting parabolic curves used to interpret the original GPR B-scan images as cross-sections of the object model. Additionally, a multi-task point cloud network was designed to perform both point cloud segmentation and completion simultaneously, filling in sparse point cloud maps. For unknown locations, GPR A-scan data can be used to match corresponding A-scan data in the constructed map, pinpointing the position to verify the accuracy of the map construction by the model. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of our method.

Embodiment: Self-Supervised Depth Estimation Based on Camera Models

Depth estimation is a critical topic for robotics and vision-related tasks. In monocular depth estimation, in comparison with supervised learning that requires expensive ground truth labeling, self-supervised methods possess great potential due to no labeling cost. However, self-supervised learning still has a large gap with supervised learning in 3D reconstruction and depth estimation performance. Meanwhile, scaling is also a major issue for monocular unsupervised depth estimation, which commonly still needs ground truth scale from GPS, LiDAR, or existing maps to correct. In the era of deep learning, existing methods primarily rely on exploring image relationships to train unsupervised neural networks, while the physical properties of the camera itself such as intrinsics and extrinsics are often overlooked. These physical properties are not just mathematical parameters; they are embodiments of the camera's interaction with the physical world. By embedding these physical properties into the deep learning model, we can calculate depth priors for ground regions and regions connected to the ground based on physical principles, providing free supervision signals without the need for additional sensors. This approach is not only easy to implement but also enhances the effects of all unsupervised methods by embedding the camera's physical properties into the model, thereby achieving an embodied understanding of the real world.

Dual-Task Vision Transformer for Rapid and Accurate Intracerebral Hemorrhage CT Image Classification

Intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is a severe and sudden medical condition caused by the rupture of blood vessels in the brain, leading to permanent damage to brain tissue and often resulting in functional disabilities or death in patients. Diagnosis and analysis of ICH typically rely on brain CT imaging. Given the urgency of ICH conditions, early treatment is crucial, necessitating rapid analysis of CT images to formulate tailored treatment plans. However, the complexity of ICH CT images and the frequent scarcity of specialist radiologists pose significant challenges. Therefore, we collect a dataset from the real world for ICH and normal classification and three types of ICH image classification based on the hemorrhage location, i.e., Deep, Subcortical, and Lobar. In addition, we propose a neural network structure, dual-task vision transformer (DTViT), for the automated classification and diagnosis of ICH images. The DTViT deploys the encoder from the Vision Transformer (ViT), employing attention mechanisms for feature extraction from CT images. The proposed DTViT framework also incorporates two multilayer perception (MLP)-based decoders to simultaneously identify the presence of ICH and classify the three types of hemorrhage locations. Experimental results demonstrate that DTViT performs well on the real-world test dataset. The code and newly collected dataset for this work are available at: https://github.com/jfan1997/DTViT.

Fast and Accurate: Video Enhancement using Sparse Depth

This paper presents a general framework to build fast and accurate algorithms for video enhancement tasks such as super-resolution, deblurring, and denoising. Essential to our framework is the realization that the accuracy, rather than the density, of pixel flows is what is required for high-quality video enhancement. Most of prior works take the opposite approach: they estimate dense (per-pixel)-but generally less robust-flows, mostly using computationally costly algorithms. Instead, we propose a lightweight flow estimation algorithm; it fuses the sparse point cloud data and (even sparser and less reliable) IMU data available in modern autonomous agents to estimate the flow information. Building on top of the flow estimation, we demonstrate a general framework that integrates the flows in a plug-and-play fashion with different task-specific layers. Algorithms built in our framework achieve 1.78x - 187.41x speedup while providing a 0.42 dB - 6.70 dB quality improvement over competing methods.
