Exotic looped trajectories via quantum marking

We provide an analytical and theoretical study of exotic looped trajectories (ELTs) in a double-slit interferometer with quantum marking. We use an excited Rydberg-like atom and which-way detectors such as superconducting cavities, just as in the Scully-Englert-Walther interferometer. We indicate appropriate conditions on the atomic beam or superconducting cavities so that we determine an interference pattern and fringe visibility exclusive from the ELTs. We quantitatively describe our results for Rubidium atoms and propose this framework as an alternative scheme to the double-slit experiment modified to interfere only these exotic trajectories.

Exotic looped trajectories in double-slit experiments with matter waves

We study the observation of exotic looped trajectories in double-slit experiments with matter waves. We consider the relative intensity at $x=0$ as a function of the time-of-flight from the double-slit to the screen inside the interferometer. This allows us to define a fringe visibility associated to the contribution to the interference pattern given by exotic lopped trajectories. We demonstrate that the Sorkin parameter is given in terms of this visibility and of the axial phases which include the Gouy phase. We verify how this parameter can be obtained by measuring the relative intensity at the screen. We show that the effect of exotic looped trajectories can be significantly increased by simply adjusting the parameters of the double-slit apparatus. Applying our results to the case of neutron interferometry, we obtain a maximum Sorkin parameter of the order of $|κ_{max}|\approx0.2$, which is the value of the fringe visibility.

Quantum estimation in neutrino oscillations

Neutrino oscillations are at the forefront of advances in Physics beyond the Standard Model. Increasing accuracy in measurements of the neutrino mixing matrix is an important challenge in current experiments. It depends on parameters that do not directly correspond to observables of the neutrino system. This type of estimation problem is handled by Quantum Estimation Theory (QET) via the Fisher Information (FI) and the Quantum Fisher Information (QFI). In this work, we analyze two-flavor neutrino oscillations within the framework of QET. We compute the QFI for the mixing angle $θ$ and show that mass measurements are the ones that achieve optimal precision. We also study the FI associated with flavor measurements and show that they are optimized at specific neutrino times-of-flight. Therefore, although the usual population measurement does not realize the precision limit set by the QFI, it can in principle be implemented with the best possible sensitivity to $θ$. We study how these quantifiers relate to the single-particle, mode entanglement. We demonstrate that this form of entanglement does not enhance neither of them. In particular, this shows that in single-particle settings, entanglement is not directly connected with the optimal precision in metrological tasks.

An open quantum system approach to complementarity in neutral kaon interferometry

In bipartite quantum systems, entanglement correlations between the parties exerts direct influence in the phenomenon of wave-particle duality. This effect has been quantitatively analyzed in the context of two qubits by M. Jakob and J. Bergou [Optics Communications 283(5) (2010) 827]. Employing a description of the $K$-meson propagation in free space where its weak decay states are included as a second party, we study here this effect in the kaon-antikaon oscillations. We show that a new quantitative "triality" relation holds, similar to the one considered by Jakob and Bergou. In our case, it relates the distinguishability between the decay products states corresponding to the distinct kaon propagation modes $K_S $, $K_L $, the amount of wave-like path interference between these states, and the amount of entanglement given by the reduced von Neumann entropy. The inequality can account for the complementarity between strangeness oscillations and lifetime information previously considered in the literature, therefore allowing one to see how it is affected by entanglement correlations. As we will discuss, it allows one to visualize clearly through the $K^{0}$$\overline{K}\,^{0}$ oscillations the fundamental role of entanglement in quantum complementarity.

Entanglement of self interacting scalar fields in an expanding spacetime

We evaluate self-interaction effects on the quantum correlations of field modes of opposite momenta for scalar $λϕ^4$ theory in a two-dimensional asymptotically flat Robertson-Walker spacetime. Such correlations are encoded both in the von-Neumann entropy defined through the reduced density matrix in one of the modes and in the covariance expressed in terms of the expectation value of the number operators for each mode in the evolved state. The entanglement between field modes carries information about the underlying spacetime evolution.
