Local $C^{0,α}$ Estimates for Viscosity Solutions of Neumann-type Boundary Value Problems

In this article, we prove the local $C^{0,α}$ regularity and provide $C^{0,α}$ estimates for viscosity solutions of fully nonlinear, possibly degenerate, elliptic equations associated to linear or nonlinear Neumann type boundary conditions. The interest of these results comes from the fact that they are indeed regularity results (and not only a priori estimates), from the generality of the equations and boundary conditions we are able to handle and the possible degeneracy of the equations we are able to take in account in the case of linear boundary conditions.

Convergence to steady states for radially symmetric solutions to a quasilinear degenerate diffusive Hamilton-Jacobi equation

Convergence to a single steady state is shown for non-negative and radially symmetric solutions to a diffusive Hamilton-Jacobi equation with homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions, the diffusion being the $p$-Laplacian operator, $p\ge 2$, and the source term a power of the norm of the gradient of $u$. As a first step, the radially symmetric and non-increasing stationary solutions are characterized.

A short proof of the $C^{0,α}$--regularity of viscosity subsolutions for superquadratic viscous Hamilton-Jacobi equations and applications

Recently I. Capuzzo Dolcetta, F. Leoni and A. Porretta obtain a very surprising regularity result for fully nonlinear, superquadratic, elliptic equations by showing that viscosity subsolutions of such equations are locally Hölder continuous, and even globally if the boundary of the domain is regular enough. The aim of this paper is to provide a simplified proof of their results, together with an interpretation of the regularity phenomena, some extensions and various applications.

Global Existence Results and Uniqueness for Dislocation Equations

We are interested in nonlocal Eikonal Equations arising in the study of the dynamics of dislocations lines in crystals. For these nonlocal but also non monotone equations, only the existence and uniqueness of Lipschitz and local-in-time solutions were available in some particular cases. In this paper, we propose a definition of weak solutions for which we are able to prove the existence for all time. Then we discuss the uniqueness of such solutions in several situations, both in the monotone and non monotone case.

Second-Order Elliptic Integro-Differential Equations: Viscosity Solutions' Theory Revisited

The aim of this work is to revisit viscosity solutions' theory for second-order elliptic integro-differential equations and to provide a general framework which takes into account solutions with arbitrary growth at infinity. Our main contribution is a new Jensen-Ishii's Lemma for integro-differential equations, which is stated for solutions with no restriction on their growth at infinity. The proof of this result, which is of course a key ingredient to prove comparison principles, relies on a new definition of viscosity solution for integro-differential equation (equivalent to the two classical ones) which combines the approach with test-functions and sub-superjets.

Existence of weak solutions for general nonlocal and nonlinear second-order parabolic equations

In this article, we provide existence results for a general class of nonlocal and nonlinear second-order parabolic equations. The main motivation comes from front propagation theory in the cases when the normal velocity depends on the moving front in a nonlocal way. Among applications, we present level-set equations appearing in dislocations' theory and in the study of Fitzhugh-Nagumo systems.

Uniqueness Results for Nonlocal Hamilton-Jacobi Equations

We are interested in nonlocal Eikonal Equations describing the evolution of interfaces moving with a nonlocal, non monotone velocity. For these equations, only the existence of global-in-time weak solutions is available in some particular cases. In this paper, we propose a new approach for proving uniqueness of the solution when the front is expanding. This approach simplifies and extends existing results for dislocation dynamics. It also provides the first uniqueness result for a Fitzhugh-Nagumo system. The key ingredients are some new perimeter estimates for the evolving fronts as well as some uniform interior cone property for these fronts.

Unbounded Viscosity Solutions of Hybrid Control Systems

We study a hybrid control system in which both discrete and continuous controls are involved. The discrete controls act on the system at a given set interface. The state of the system is changed discontinuously when the trajectory hits predefined sets, namely, an autonomous jump set $A$ or a controlled jump set $C$ where controller can choose to jump or not. At each jump, trajectory can move to a different Euclidean space. We allow the cost functionals to be unbounded with certain growth and hence the corresponding value function can be unbounded. We characterize the value function as the unique viscosity solution of the associated quasivariational inequality in a suitable function class. We also consider the evolutionary, finite horizon hybrid control problem with similar model and prove that the value function is the unique viscosity solution in the continuous function class while allowing cost functionals as well as the dynamics to be unbounded.

Dirac concentrations in Lotka-Volterra parabolic PDEs

We consider parabolic partial differential equations of Lotka-Volterra type, with a non-local nonlinear term. This models, at the population level, the darwinian evolution of a population; the Laplace term represents mutations and the nonlinear birth/death term represents competition leading to selection. Once rescaled with a small diffusion, we prove that the solutions converge to a moving Dirac mass. The velocity and weights cannot be obtained by a simple expression, e.g., an ordinary differential equation. We show that they are given by a constrained Hamilton-Jacobi equation. This extends several earlier results to the parabolic case and to general nonlinearities. Technical new ingredients are a $BV$ estimate in time on the non-local nonlinearity, a characterization of the concentration point (in a monomorphic situation) and, surprisingly, some counter-examples showing that jumps on the Dirac locations are indeed possible.

Some Homogenization Results for Non-Coercive Hamilton-Jacobi Equations

Recently, C. Imbert & R. Monneau study the homogenization of coercive Hamilton-Jacobi Equations with a $u/e$-dependence : this unusual dependence leads to a non-standard cell problem and, in order to solve it, they introduce new ideas to obtain the estimates on the oscillations of the solutions. In this article, we use their ideas to provide new homogenization results for ``standard'' Hamilton-Jacobi Equations (i.e. without a $u/e$-dependence) but in the case of {\it non-coercive Hamiltonians}. As a by-product, we obtain a simpler and more natural proof of the results of C. Imbert & R. Monneau, but under slightly more restrictive assumptions on the Hamiltonians.

Ergodic type problems and large time behaviour of unbounded solutions of Hamilton-Jacobi Equations

We study the large time behavior of Lipschitz continuous, possibly unbounded, viscosity solutions of Hamilton-Jacobi Equations in the whole space $\R^N$. The associated ergodic problem has Lipschitz continuous solutions if the analogue of the ergodic constant is larger than a minimal value $λ_{min}$. We obtain various large-time convergence and Liouville type theorems, some of them being of completely new type. We also provide examples showing that, in this unbounded framework, the ergodic behavior may fail, and that the asymptotic behavior may also be unstable with respect to the initial data.

Nonlocal First-Order Hamilton-Jacobi Equations Modelling Dislocations Dynamics

We study nonlocal first-order equations arising in the theory of dislocations. We prove the existence and uniqueness of the solutions of these equations in the case of positive and negative velocities, under suitable regularity assumptions on the initial data and the velocity. These results are based on new $L^1$-type estimates on the viscosity solutions of first-order Hamilton-Jacobi Equations appearing in the so-called ``level-sets approach''. Our work is inspired by and simplifies a recent work of Alvarez, Cardaliaguet and Monneau.

Uniqueness for unbounded solutions to stationary viscous Hamilton--Jacobi equations

We consider a class of stationary viscous Hamilton--Jacobi equations as $$ \left\{\begin{array}{l} \la u-{\rm div}(A(x) \nabla u)=H(x,\nabla u)\mbox{in }Ω, u=0{on}\partialΩ\end{array} \right. $$ where $\la\geq 0$, $A(x)$ is a bounded and uniformly elliptic matrix and $H(x,ξ)$ is convex in $ξ$ and grows at most like $|ξ|^q+f(x)$, with $1 < q < 2$ and $f \in \elle {\frac N{q'}}$. Under such growth conditions solutions are in general unbounded, and there is not uniqueness of usual weak solutions. We prove that uniqueness holds in the restricted class of solutions satisfying a suitable energy--type estimate, i.e. $(1+|u|)^{\bar q-1} u\in \acca$, for a certain (optimal) exponent $\bar q$. This completes the recent results in \cite{GMP}, where the existence of at least one solution in this class has been proved.

Error bounds for monotone approximation schemes for parabolic Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equations

We obtain non-symmetric upper and lower bounds on the rate of convergence of general monotone approximation/numerical schemes for parabolic Hamilton Jacobi Bellman Equations by introducing a new notion of consistency. We apply our general results to various schemes including finite difference schemes, splitting methods and the classical approximation by piecewise constant controls.
