Emergence of moiré magnetic chaos in twisted bilayer CrI3

The study of magnetic chaos has traditionally focused on macroscopic variables under external driving. Here we demonstrate a new type of magnetic chaos, termed moiré magnetic chaos, associated with mesoscopic magnetic domain variables in twisted bilayer CrI3 without external driving. The domains are stabilized by a characteristic interlayer exchange frustration, which supplies the multiple dynamical degrees of freedom required for autonomous chaos. Through micromagnetic simulations, we show that relaxation toward moiré magnetic textures is extremely sensitive to minute local perturbations of the initial state, characterized by substantial finite-time Lyapunov exponents and a final-state sensitivity that persists over five decades of perturbation amplitude. Statistical analysis further reveals that the resulting domain configurations are stochastic and pairwise uncorrelated. Our results identify a form of microscopic, undriven chaos in twisted magnets that extends nonlinear magnetism beyond the conventional driven regime.

Magneto-rotation coupling dominates surface acoustic wave driven ferromagnetic resonance in the longitudinal geometry

We present a phonon-magnon extension for the mumax+ micromagnetic framework that implements three surface acoustic wave (SAW) coupling mechanisms: magnetoelastic strain coupling, magneto-rotation coupling arising from the antisymmetric displacement gradient, and spin-rotation (Barnett) coupling from the lattice angular velocity. Six benchmark simulations validate the implementation through SAW-driven domain-wall motion, magnetization switching, magneto-rotation and Barnett field validation, nonreciprocal SAW-magnon absorption from Rayleigh-wave chirality, and spatially resolved coupling in a standing SAW cavity. For the longitudinal geometry (m_0 parallel to k_SAW), we show that the magnetoelastic coupling produces zero transverse torque despite generating a 50 times larger effective field; the magneto-rotation channel provides the sole driving mechanism. The crossover angle below which MR dominates is theta_c approximately 1.1 degrees for YIG parameters. Treating the magneto-rotation coupling constant K_mr as a tunable parameter, we map out the cooperativity phase diagram and show that MR alone can achieve strong coupling (C = 257 for K_mr = 1 MJ/m^3) with an avoided-crossing splitting of 13.6 MHz.

Multimode cavity magnonics in mumax+: from coherent to dissipative coupling in ferromagnets and antiferromagnets

Coherent coupling between microwave cavity photons and magnon excitations enables quantum transduction, magnon-mediated entanglement, and magnon number-resolved detection. Micromagnetic simulation of photon-magnon coupling typically requires either modifying the core solver or implementing a full electromagnetic solver. Here we present a two-tier cavity magnonics extension for mumax+, a GPU-accelerated open-source micromagnetic framework. The first tier consists of CUDA kernels that integrate N cavity-mode ODEs simultaneously with the LLG equation inside the GPU-based RK45 adaptive time-stepper, eliminating per-step GPU-CPU transfers; spatially resolved mode profiles enter both the coupling and the feedback, enabling selective addressing of non-uniform spin-wave modes. The second tier is a lightweight Python co-simulation class that reproduces the same uniform-mode physics through operator-split RK4 integration without recompilation. We validate the implementation with eight benchmark simulations: (i) magnon-polariton anticrossing spectra, (ii) vacuum Rabi oscillations, (iii) the cooperativity phase diagram spanning weak-to-strong coupling regimes, (iv) cavity mode-profile-dependent coupling selection rules, (v) multi-mode polariton hybridization with magnon-mediated cavity-cavity energy transfer, (vi) mode-selective coupling via spatial overlap engineering, (vii) antiferromagnetic magnon-cavity coupling with Neel-vector spectroscopy, and (viii) abnormal anticrossing from dissipative photon-magnon coupling, demonstrating the transition from level repulsion to level attraction.

Emergence of Chaos in Magnetic-Field-Driven Skyrmions

We explore magnetic-field-driven chaos in magnetic skyrmions. Oscillating magnetic fields induce nonlinear dynamics in skyrmions, arising from the coupling of the secondary gyrotropic mode with a non-uniform, breathing-like mode. Through micromagnetic simulations, we observe complex patterns of hypotrochoidal motion in the orbital trajectories of the skyrmions, which are interpreted using bifurcation diagrams and local Lyapunov exponents. Our findings demonstrate that different nonlinear behaviors of skyrmions emerge at distinct temporal stages, depending on the nonlinear dynamic parameters. Investigating the abundant dynamic patterns of skyrmions during the emergence of chaos not only enhances device reliability but also provides useful guidelines for establishing chaos computing based on skyrmion dynamics.

TraceTracker: Hardware/Software Co-Evaluation for Large-Scale I/O Workload Reconstruction

Block traces are widely used for system studies, model verifications, and design analyses in both industry and academia. While such traces include detailed block access patterns, existing trace-driven research unfortunately often fails to find true-north due to a lack of runtime contexts such as user idle periods and system delays, which are fundamentally linked to the characteristics of target storage hardware. In this work, we propose TraceTracker, a novel hardware/software co-evaluation method that allows users to reuse a broad range of the existing block traces by keeping most their execution contexts and user scenarios while adjusting them with new system information. Specifically, our TraceTracker's software evaluation model can infer CPU burst times and user idle periods from old storage traces, whereas its hardware evaluation method remasters the storage traces by interoperating the inferred time information, and updates all inter-arrival times by making them aware of the target storage system. We apply the proposed co-evaluation model to 577 traces, which were collected by servers from different institutions and locations a decade ago, and revive the traces on a high-performance flash-based storage array. The evaluation results reveal that the accuracy of the execution contexts reconstructed by TraceTracker is on average 99% and 96% with regard to the frequency of idle operations and the total idle periods, respectively.
