Wilson Lines Near the Light Cone

We study the dynamics of Wilson lines near the light cone in QCD. Lattice simulations of the near light cone Hamiltonian in SU(2) show that the correlation mass at strong coupling vanishes at intermediate coupling, which signals a continuum transition on the light cone. We point out the possible relevance of this mass for high energy scattering.

Transverse QCD Dynamics Near the Light Cone

Starting from the QCD Hamiltonian in near-light cone coordinates, we study the dynamics of the gluonic zero modes. Euclidean 2+1 dimensional lattice simulations show that the gap at strong coupling vanishes at intermediate coupling. This result opens the possibility to synchronize the continuum limit with the approach to the light cone.

On the Convergence of the Expansion of Renormalization Group Flow Equation

We compare and discuss the dependence of a polynomial truncation of the effective potential used to solve exact renormalization group flow equation for a model with fermionic interaction (linear sigma model) with a grid solution. The sensitivity of the results on the underlying cutoff function is discussed. We explore the validity of the expansion method for second and first-order phase transitions.

Renormalization Group Flow Equation at Finite Density

For the linear sigma model with quarks we derive renormalization group flow equations for finite temperature and finite baryon density using the heat kernel cutoff. At zero temperature we evolve the effective potential to the Fermi momentum and compare the solutions of the full evolution equation with those in the mean field approximation. We find a first order phase transition either from a massive constituent quark phase to a mixed phase, where both massive and massless quarks are present, or from a metastable constituent quark phase at low density to a stable massless quark phase at high density. In the latter solution, the formation of droplets of massless quarks is realized even at low density.

Unifying Nucleon and Quark Dynamics at Finite Baryon Number Density

We present a model of baryonic matter which contains free constituent quarks in addition to bound constituent quarks in nucleons. In addition to the common linear sigma-model we include the exchange of vector-mesons. The percentage of free quarks increases with baryon density but the nucleons resist a restoration of chiral symmetry.

Effective Lagrangian for SU(3)_c gluodynamics from lattice color dielectrics

Small momenta limit of the lattice color dielectric model in the SU(3)_c case is considered. We show that in that limit the model involves a coarse-grained gluon field, a color singlet "bleached gluon" field, and both color singlet and octet rank two symmetric tensor fields constructed from the first order derivatives of a vector field. In contradistinction from other approaches we do not obtain scalar color dielectric fields directly, but they can be introduced as traces of the tensor fields.

Renormalization Group Flow and Equation of State of Quarks and Mesons

Nonperturbative flow equations within an effective linear sigma model coupled to constituent quarks for two quark flavors are derived and solved. A heat kernel regularization is employed for a renormalization group improved effective potential. We determine the initial values of the coupling constants in the effective potential at zero temperature. Solving the evolution equations with the same initial values at finite temperature in the chiral limit, we find a second order phase transition at T_c \approx 150 MeV. Due to the smooth decoupling of massive modes, we can directly link the low-temperature four-dimensional theory to the three-dimensional high-temperature theory. We calculate the equation of state in the chiral limit and for finite pion masses and determine universal critical exponents.

Application of the Heat Kernel Method to the Constituent Quark Model at Finite Temperature

The Heat Kernel Method is applied to the constituent quark model. We calculate the effect of thermal quark fluctuations on the meson action and the resulting quark condensate and pi pi-scattering amplitude at finite temperature. The quarks produce a chiral phase transition only by their effect on the mesonic coupling constants. The s-wave isospin zero pi pi-scattering amplitude diverges near the phase transition showing the necessity for a more sophisticated treatment of meson fluctuations.
