Muon Pair Production by Electron-Photon Scatterings

The cross section for muon pair productions by electrons scattering over photons, $σ_{MPP}$, is calculated analytically in the leading order. It is pointed out that for the center-of-mass energy range, $s \geq 5 m^{2}_μ$, the cross section for $σ_{MPP}$ is less than $1 μ$b. The differential energy spectrum for either of the resulting muons is given for the purpose of high-energy neutrino astronomy. An implication of our result for a recent suggestion concerning the high-energy cosmic neutrino generation through this muon pair is discussed.

Effects of neutrino mixing on high-energy cosmic neutrino flux

Several cosmologically distant astrophysical sources may produce high-energy cosmic neutrinos (E \geq 10^6 GeV) of all flavors above the atmospheric neutrino background. We study the effects of vacuum neutrino mixing in three flavor framework on this cosmic neutrino flux. We also consider the effects of possible mixing between the three active neutrinos and the (fourth) sterile neutrino with or without Big-Bang nucleosynthesis constraints and estimate the resulting final high-energy cosmic neutrino flux ratios on earth compatible with currently existing different neutrino oscillation hints in a model independent way. Further, we discuss the case where the intrinsic cosmic neutrino flux does not have the standard ratio.

Ultra-high energy cosmic neutrinos

Several cosmologically distant astrophysical sources may produce ultra-high energy cosmic neutrinos (E > 10^6 GeV) of all flavors above the atmospheric neutrino background. I study the effects of vacuum neutrino flavor mixing on this cosmic neutrino flux. Prospects for observations of these ultra-high energy cosmic neutrinos in large underwater/ice neutrino telescopes are also briefly discussed.

Prospects for observations of high-energy cosmic tau neutrinos

We study prospects for the observations of high-energy cosmic tau neutrinos (E \geq 10^6 GeV) originating from proton acceleration in the cores of active galactic nuclei. We consider the possibility that vacuum flavor neutrino oscillations induce a tau to muon neutrino flux ratio greatly exceeding the rather small value expected from intrinsic production. The criterias and event rates for under water/ice light Cerenkov neutrino telescopes are given by considering the possible detection of downgoing high-energy cosmic tau neutrinos through characteristic double shower events.

Neutrino conversions in cosmological gamma-ray burst fireballs

We study neutrino conversions in a recently envisaged source of high-energy neutrinos (E \geq 10^6 GeV), that is, in the vicinity of cosmological Gamma-Ray Burst fireballs (GRB). We consider the effects of flavor and spin-flavor conversions and point out that in both situations, a some what higher than estimated high energy tau neutrino flux from GRBs is expected in new km^2 surface area under water/ice neutrino telescopes.

Matter effects on neutrino oscillations in gravitational and magnetic fields

When neutrinos propagate in a background, their gravitational couplings are modified by their weak interactions with the particles in the background. In a medium that contains electrons but no muons or taons, the matter-induced gravitational couplings of neutrinos are different for the various neutrino flavors, and they must be taken into account in describing the phenomena associated with the neutrino oscillations in the presence of strong gravitational fields. Here we incorporate those couplings in that description, including also the effects of a magnetic field, and consider the implications that they have for the emission of high energy neutrinos in the vicinity of Active Galactic Nuclei.

Effects of conversions for high energy neutrinos originating from cosmological gamma-ray burst fireballs

We study neutrino conversions in the recently envisaged source of high energy ($E \geq 10^{6}$ GeV) neutrinos, that is, in the vicinity of cosmological gamma-ray burst fireballs (GRB). We consider mainly the possibility of neutrino conversions due to an interplay of neutrino transition magnetic moment, $μ$, and the violation of equivalence principle (VEP), parameterized by $Δf$, in a reasonable strength of magnetic field in the vicinity of the GRB. We point out that for $Δf \sim 10^{-25}(δm^2/1 {eV}^2)$, a resonant spin-flavour precession between $\barν_μ$ and $ν_τ$ may occur in the vicinity of GRB for $μ\sim 10^{-12} μ_{B}$ ($μ_{B}$ is Bohr magneton), thus enhancing the expected high energy $ν_τ$ flux from GRBs.

Neutrino spin-flip effects in collapsing stars

We study the spin-flavor transitions of neutrinos in the magnetic fields of a collapsing star. For the neutrino mass squared difference (10^{-10} - 10) eV^2 the transitions take place in almost isotopically neutral region of the star, where the effective matter density is suppressed up to 3 - 4 orders of magnitude. This suppression is shown to increase the sensitivity of the neutrino bursts studies to the magnetic moment of neutrino by 1.5 - 2 orders of magnitude, and for realistic magnetic field the observable effects may exist for (2 - 3)10^{-14} Bohr magneton. In the isotopically neutral region the jumps of the effective potential exist which influence the probabilities of transitions. The experimental signatures of the spin-flavor transitions are discussed. In particular, in the case of direct mass hierarchy, the spin-flip effects result in a variety of modifications of the electron antineutrino spectrum. Taking this into account, we estimated the upper bounds on the magnetic moment from the SN1987A data. In the isotopically neutral region the effects of possible twist of the magnetic field on the way of neutrinos can be important, inducing distortion of the neutrino energy spectra and further increasing the sensitivity. However, if the total rotation angle is restricted the absolute change of probabilities is small.
