CP asymmetries in neutralino production

We study two CP sensitive triple-product asymmetries for neutralino production e+e- \to \tildeχ^0_i \tildeχ^0_j and the subsequent leptonic two-body decays \tildeχ^0_i \to \tilde{l} l of one of the neutralinos and of the slepton \tilde{l} \to \tildeχ^0_1 l at an e+e--linear collider with \sqrt{s} = 500 GeV. We calculate the asymmetries in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model with complex parameters μand M_1. We show that the largest asymmetries are 10% or 25% and estimate the event rates which are necessary to measure the asymmetries. Polarized electron and positron beams can significantly enhance the asymmetries and cross sections. In addition, we show how the two decay leptons can be distinguished by making use of their energy distributions.

Precision measurements of Higgs-chargino couplings in chargino pair production at a muon collider

We study chargino pair production on the heavy Higgs resonances at a muon collider in the MSSM. At $\sqrt{s} \approx 350$ GeV cross sections up to 2 pb are reached depending on the supersymmetric scenario and the beam energy spread. The resonances of the scalar and pseudoscalar Higgs bosons may be separated for $\tanβ<8$. Our aim is to determine the ratio of the chargino couplings to the heavy scalar and pseudoscalar Higgs boson independently of the specific chargino decay characteristics. The precision of the measurement depends on the energy resolution of the muon collider and on the error in the measurement of the cross sections of the non-Higgs channels including an irreducible standard model background. With a high energy resolution the systematic error can be reduced to the order of a few percent.

Sfermion Precision Measurements at a Linear Collider

At future e+- e- linear colliders, the event rates and clean signals of scalar fermion production - in particular for the scalar leptons - allow very precise measurements of their masses and couplings and the determination of their quantum numbers. Various methods are proposed for extracting these parameters from the data at the sfermion thresholds and in the continuum. At the same time, NLO radiative corrections and non-zero width effects have been calculated in order to match the experimental accuracy. The substantial mixing expected for the third generation sfermions opens up additional opportunities. Techniques are presented for determining potential CP-violating phases and for extracting tan(beta) from the stau sector, in particular at high values. The consequences of possible large mass differences in the stop and sbottom system are explored in dedicated analyses.

Chargino Production and Decay in Photon-Photon-Collisions

We discuss the pair production of charginos in collisions of polarized photons $γγ\to \tildeχ_i^+ \tildeχ_i^-$, ($i=1,2$) and the subsequent leptonic decay of the lighter chargino $\tildeχ_1^+ \to \tildeχ_1^0 e^+ ν_e$ including the complete spin correlations. Analytical formulae are given for the polarization and the spin-spin correlations of the charginos. Since the production is a pure QED process the decay dynamics can be studied separately. For high energy photons from Compton backscattering of polarized laser pulses off polarized electron beams numerical results are presented for the cross section, the angular distribution and the forward-backward asymmetry of the decay positron. Finally we study the dependence on the gaugino mass parameter $M_1$ and on the sneutrino mass for a gaugino-like MSSM scenario.

Selectron Pair Production at e-e- and e+e- Colliders with Polarized Beams

We investigate selectron pair production and decay in e-e- scattering and e+e- annihilation with polarized beams taking into account neutralino mixing as well as ISR and beamstrahlung corrections. One of the main advantages of having both modes at disposal is their complementarity concerning the threshold behaviour of selectron pair production. In e-e- the cross sections at threshold for seleectron_R selectron_R and selectron_L selectron_L rise proportional to the momentum of the selectron and in e+ e- that for selectron_R selectron_L. Measurements at threshold with polarized beams can be used to determine the selectron masses precisely. Moreover we discuss how polarized electron and positron beams can be used to establish directly the weak quantum numbers of the selectrons. We also use selectron pair production to determine the gaugino mass parameter M_1. This is of particular interest for scenarios with non-universal gaugino masses at a high scale resulting in |M_1| << |M_2| at the electroweak scale. Moreover, we consider also the case of a non-vanishing selectron mixing and demonstrate that it leads to a significant change in the phenomenology of selectrons.

Physics Opportunities at mu+mu- Higgs Factories

We update theoretical studies of the physics opportunities presented by mu+mu- Higgs factories. Interesting measurements of the Standard Model Higgs decays into {\bar b}b, tau+tau- and WW* may be possible if the Higgs mass is less than about 160 GeV, as preferred by the precision electroweak data, the mass range being extended by varying appropriately the beam energy resolution. A suitable value of the beam energy resolution would also enable the uncertainty in the b-quark mass to be minimized, facilitating measurements of parameters in the MSSM at such a first mu+mu- Higgs factory. These measurements would be sensitive to radiative corrections to the Higgs-fermion-antifermion decay vertices, which may violate CP. Radiative corrections in the MSSM may also induce CP violation in Higgs-mass mixing, which can be probed via various asymmetries measurable using polarized mu+mu- beams. In addition, Higgs-chargino couplings may be probed at a second mu+mu- Higgs factory.

Neutralinos in E_6 inspired supersymmetric U(1)' models

The neutralino sector in E_6 inspired supersymmetric models with extra neutral gauge bosons and singlet Higgs fields contains additional gaugino and singlino states compared to the MSSM. We discuss the neutralino mixing in rank 5 and rank 6 models and analyze the supersymmetric parameter space where the light neutralinos have mainly singlino or MSSM character. The neutralino character, resonance effects of the new gauge bosons and, assuming mSUGRA-type RGEs, different selectron masses lead to significant differences between the MSSM and the extended models in neutralino production at an e^+e^- linear collider. Beam polarization may improve the signatures to distinguish between the models. In an appendix, we present the mass terms of the gauge bosons, charginos and sfermions which show a significant different mass spectrum than in the MSSM and give all relevant neutralino couplings.

Selectron Pair Production in Electron-Electron-Scattering

We investigate pair production of selectrons in electron-electron-scattering with subsequent decay into an electron and the LSP including ISR and beamstrahlung. This process can be used at a linear collider to measure the selectron masses and the gaugino mass parameter M_1 very precisely.

Determination of the Gaugino Mass Parameter M_1 in Different Linear Collider Modes

We study the different linear collider modes with regard to the determination of the gaugino mass parameter M_1. In a specific mSUGRA inspired scenario we compare four processes with polarized beams: (a) e+ e- --> neutralino_1 neutralino_2 --> neutralino_1 neutralino_1 e+ e-, (b) e- gamma --> neutralino_1 selectron_{L/R} --> neutralino_1 neutralino_1 e-, (c) gamma gamma --> chargino_1^+ chargino_1^- --> neutralino_1 neutralino_1 e+ e- neutrino_e anti-neutrino_e, (d) e- e- --> selectron_{L/R} selectron_{L/R} --> neutralino_1 neutralino_1 e- e-.

Implications of CP and CPT for production and decay of Majorana fermions

The consequences of CP- and CPT-invariance for production and subsequent decay of Majorana fermions are analytically studied. We derive general symmetry relations for the spin density matrix for production of Majorana fermions by polarized fermion-antifermion annihilation which allow to distinguish Majorana from Dirac fermions. We discuss the influence of the spin correlations on energy and angular distributions of the decay products. Numerical results are shown for the production of neutralinos and charginos with subsequent leptonic decay at a future linear collider with longitudinally polarized beams.

Chargino Production and Decay in Photon-Photon-Collisions

We study the production and leptonic decay of charginos in collisions of polarized photon beams including the complete spin correlations. The photons can be generated by Compton backscattering of polarized laser pulses off a polarized electron beam. Since the production process is determined alone by the electromagnetic coupling of the charginos this process allows to study their decay dynamics. The cross section and the forward-backward asymmetry of the decay lepton are very sensitive to the gaugino mass parameter $M_1$ and to the sneutrino mass without any ambiguities.

Displaced Vertices in Extended Supersymmetric Models

In extended supersymmetric models with additional singlet Higgs fields displaced vertices could be observed if the decay width of the next-to-lightest supersymmetric particle becomes very small due to a singlino dominated LSP. We study the supersymmetric parameter space where displaced vertices of the second lightest neutralino exist in the NMSSM and an E6 inspired model. For a mass difference between LSP and NLSP of more than 10 GeV the singlet vacuum expectation value has to be at least of the order of 100 TeV in order to obtain a lightest neutralino with a singlino component large enough for displaced vertices.

Distinguishing between MSSM and NMSSM with eγScattering

We study the associated production of selectrons and neutralinos with subsequent leptonic decay of the selectron in eγscattering within the framework of MSSM and NMSSM. Due to the weak couplings of singlino dominated neutralinos, associated neutralino production e^+ + e^- -> neutralino_1 + neutralino_2 at a linear collider can be strongly suppressed in some regions of the parameter space. Then the process e + gamma -> selectron_{L/R} + neutralino_{1/2} -> e + neutralino_{1/2} + neutralino_1 can give additional informations on the underlying theory and the character of neutralino_1 and neutralino_2.

Impact of e^+ and e^- Beam Polarization on Chargino and Neutralino Production at a Linear Collider

We study the production processes e^+ e^- -> chi^+_i chi^-_j, i,j=1,2, and e^+ e^- -> chi^0_m chi^0_n, m,n=1,...,4, working out the advantages of polarizing both beams. For e^+ e^- -> chi^+_1 chi^-_1 with chi^-_1 -> chi^0_1 e^- nu and e^+ e^- -> chi^0_1 chi^0_2 with chi^0_2 -> chi^0_1 e^+ e^- we perform a detailed analysis, including the complete spin correlations between production and decay. We analyze the forward--backward asymmetry of the decay electron for various beam polarizations. We also study polarization asymmetries in e^+ e^- -> chi^0_1 chi^0_2. These asymmetries strongly constrain the gaugino parameter M_1 and the masses m_{\tilde{e}_L}, m_{\tilde{e}_R}, m_{\tilde{nu}} also if m_{\tilde{e}_{L,R}}, m_{\tilde{nu}} > sqrt{s}/2. We give numerical predictions for three scenarios for a linear collider with sqrt{s}=500-1000 GeV.

Beam Polarization and Spin Correlation Effects in Chargino Production and Decay

We study chargino production e^+ e^- -> chi^+_1 chi^-_1 and the subsequent leptonic decay chi^-_1\to chi^0_1 e^- nu_e including the complete spin correlations between production and decay. We work out the advantages of polarizing the e^+ and e^- beams. We study in detail the polarized cross sections, the angular distribution and the forward--backward asymmetry of the decay electron. They can be used to determine the sneutrino mass m_{\tildeν_e}.
