Ambiguities in the generation of CFJ-terms in a QED with dimension-5 operators in one loop

In this paper, we investigate a Lorentz symmetry breaking extension of Quantum Electrodynamics (QED), incorporating 5-dimensional CPT-odd terms at the one-loop level. Employing an independent regularization method, we systematically separate the divergences into regularization-independent contributions and regularization-dependent (surface terms). We demonstrate that these surface terms, potentially contributing to the radiative generation of Carroll-Field-Jackiw (CFJ) terms, remain undetermined even when imposing the Ward-Takahashi identity. Our results are consistent with existing literature and emphasize the necessity of a careful and consistent treatment of regularization ambiguities in quantum field theories involving symmetry breaking extensions.

Consistency of an alternative CPT-odd and Lorentz-violating extension of QED

We investigate an alternative CPT-odd Lorentz-breaking QED which includes the Carroll-Field-Jackiw (CFJ) term of the Standard Model Extension (SME), writing the gauge sector in the action in a Palatini-like form, in which the vectorial field and the field-strength tensor are treated as independent entities. Interestingly, this naturally induces a Lorentz-violating mass term in the classical action. We study physical consistency aspects of the model both at classical and quantum levels.

Tree-level equivalence between a Lorentz-violating extension of QED and its dual model in electron-electron scattering

S-matrix amplitudes for the electron-electron scattering are calculated in order to verify the quantum equivalence of dual models. We used an extended Quantum Electrodynamics with CPT-even Lorentz-violating kinetic and mass terms, which was used in a process of gauge embedding, known as Noether dualizationn method (NDM), in order to generate its gauge-invariant dual model. The physical equivalence was established at tree-level and the cross section was calculated to second order in the Lorentz-violating parameter.

Dual embedding of extended models with a Lorentz-breaking mass term

In this paper, we investigate a CPT-even model with a Lorentz-violating mass term. Such kind of models may present very interesting features like superluminal modes of propagation or even instantaneous long-range interactions. The mass term we investigate can be induced at classical or quantum level in a scenario with spontaneous gauge symmetry breaking in a gauge-Higgs model without Lorentz symmetry. We analyze the physical consistency of the model by studying the poles of the propagator. By using the Noether Dualization Method (NDM), we obtain a gauge invariant dual theory for this model. The physical equivalence between the two models is investigated and a general relation between the two propagators is obtained.

The full electroweak Standard Model prediction for (g-2) of the muon and improvements on the MSSM prediction

Recent progress on the (g-2)_μprediction is presented. In the SM, the Higgs-boson mass dependent contributions have been evaluated exactly up to the two-loop level and consistently combined with leading three-loop effects. Thus, the currently most accurate value including a detailed error analysis for the SM electroweak contributions has been obtained. The SUSY two-loop corrections from fermion/sfermion-loop insertions have been computed; they are generally large and logarithmically enhanced for heavy squarks.

Aspects of Quantum Corrections in a Lorentz-violating Extension of the Abelian Higgs Model

We investigate new aspects related to the abelian gauge-Higgs model with the addition of the Carroll-Field-Jackiw term. We focus on one-loop quantum corrections to the photon and Higgs sectors due to spontaneous breaking of gauge symmetry and show that new finite and definite Lorentz-breaking terms are induced. Specifically in the gauge sector, a CPT-even aether term is induced. Besides, aspects of the one-loop renormalization of the background vector dependent terms are discussed.

QED with minimal and nonminimal couplings: on the quantum generation of Lorentz violating terms in the pure photon sector

We consider an effective model formed by usual QED (minimal coupling) with the addition of a nonminimal Lorentz violating interaction (proportional to a fixed 4-vector $b_μ$) which may radiatively generate both CPT even and odd terms in the pure gauge sector. We show that gauge invariance from usual QED, considered as a limit of the model for $b_μ\rightarrow 0$, plays an important role in the discussion of the radiatively induced Lorentz violating terms at one-loop order. Moreover, despite the nonrenormalizability of the (effective) model preventing us from readily extending our discussion to higher orders, it is still possible to display the general form of the breaking terms of the photon sector in the on shell limit organized in powers of $b_μ$ which in turn can be considered as a small expansion parameter.

Ultraviolet and Infrared Divergences in Implicit Regularization: a Consistent Approach

Implicit Regularization is a 4-dimensional regularization initially conceived to treat ultraviolet divergences. It has been successfully tested in several instances in the literature, more specifically in those where Dimensional Regularization does not apply. In the present contribution we extend the method to handle infrared divergences as well. We show that the essential steps which rendered Implicit Regularization adequate in the case of ultraviolet divergences have their counterpart for infrared ones. Moreover we show that a new scale appears, typically an infrared scale which is completely independent of the ultraviolet one. Examples are given.

Multiloop calculations with Implicit Regularization in massless theories

We establish a systematic way to calculate multiloop amplitudes of infrared safe massless models with Implicit Regularization (IR), with a direct cancelation of the fictitious mass introduced by the procedure. The ultraviolet content of such amplitudes have a simple structure and its separation permits the identification of all the potential symmetry violating terms, the surface terms. Moreover, we develop a technique for the calculation of an important kind of finite multiloop integral which seems particularly convenient to use Feynman parametrization. Finally, we discuss the Implicit Regularization of infrared divergent amplitudes, showing with an example how it can be dealt with an analogous procedure in the coordinate space.
