On the Cut-Off Prescriptions Associated with Power-Law Generalized Thermostatistics

We revisit the cut-off prescriptions which are needed in order to specify completely the form of Tsallis' maximum entropy distributions. For values of the Tsallis entropic parameter $q>1$ we advance an alternative cut-off prescription and discuss some of its basic mathematical properties. As an illustration of the new cut-off prescription we consider in some detail the $q$-generalized quantum distributions which have recently been shown to reproduce various experimental results related to high $T_c$ superconductors.

Kappa-deformed Statistics and the Formation of a Quark-Gluon Plasma

The effect of the non-extensive form of statistical mechanics proposed by Tsallis on the formation of a quark-gluon plasma (QGP) has been recently investigated in ref. \cite{1}. The results show that for small deviations ($\approx 10%$) from Boltzmann-Gibbs (BG) statistics in the QGP phase, the critical temperature for the formation of a QGP does not change substantially for a large variation of the chemical potential. In the present effort we use the extensive $κ$-deformed statistical mechanics constructed by Kaniadakis to represent the constituents of the QGP and compare the results with ref. [1].

Generalized Statistics and the Formation a Quark-Gluon Plasma

The aim of this paper is to investigate the effect of a non-extensive form of statistical mechanics proposed by Tsallis on the formation of a quark-gluon plasma (QGP). We suggest to account for the effects of the dominant part of the {\itshape long-range} interactions among the constituents in the QGP by a change in the statistics of the system in this phase, and we study the relevance of this statistics for the phase transition. The results show that small deviations ($\approx 10%$) from Boltzmann-Gibbs statistics in the QGP produce a noticeable change in the phase diagram, which can, in principle, be tested experimentally.

A Bayesian Approach for the Determination of the Charge Density from Elastic Electron Scattering Data

The problem of the determination of the charge density from limited information about the charge form factor is an ill-posed inverse problem. A Bayesian probabilistic approach to this problem which permits to take into account both errors and prior information about the solution is presented. We will show that many classical methods can be considered as special cases of the proposed approach. We address also the problem of the basis function choice for the discretization and the uncertainty of the solution. Some numerical results for an analytical model are presented to show the performance of the proposed method.

Generalized Statistics and High Tc Superconductivity

Introducing the generalized, non-extensive statistics proposed by Tsallis[1988], into the standard s-wave pairing BCS theory of superconductivity in 2D yields a reasonable description of many of the main properties of high temperature superconductors, provided some allowance is made for non-phonon mediated interactions.

Generalized Statistics and the Fluctuation-Dissipation Theorem

If the generalized statistics suggested by Tsallis are used in statistical mechanics, the fluctuation-dissipation theorem no longer holds. Only in the limiting case where Boltzmann statistics are recovered is the theorem applicable. In spite of the fact that this allows for the possibility of condensation in any dimension, it is demonstrated that this is not always realized.

The Weyl Series and the Trace formula: can we add them?

Periodic orbit expressions for the density of states lead to spurious results when directly used to calculate quantities of thermodynamic interest. This is because the trace formula is usually valid only for large energies while the calculations make use of it at all energies. We present a prescription for circumventing this problem by isolating contributions which arise from the inaccurate low-energy behavior, and are spurious, from other subdominant contributions which are physical and are not contained in the Weyl series. The method is tested by analyzing the fermionic grand partition function for a disk billiard and may readily be extended to other dynamical systems.

Landau Ginzburg Theory and Nuclear Matter at Finite Temperature

Based on recent studies of the temperature dependence of the energy and specific heat of liquid nuclear matter, a phase transition is suggested at a temperature $\sim .8$ MeV. We apply Landau Ginzburg theory to this transition and determine the behaviour of the energy and specific heat close to the critical temperature in the condensed phase.

Comment on ``Specific Heat and Shape Transitions in Light sd Nuclei''

This comment re-examines the origin of structure seen in the computed specific heat of finite nuclei. In a recent paper, Civitarese and Schvellinger suggest that such structure is due to model-space truncation in the calculations. We reaffirm our conclusion that the structure is caused by a collective-to-non-collective phase transformation at low temperatures, signaled by a change in the nuclear level density below 10 MeV excitation energy.

The Determination of Nuclear Level Densities from Experimental Information -

A novel Information Theory based method for determining the density of states from prior information is presented. The energy dependence of the density of states is determined from the observed number of states per energy interval and model calculations suggest that the method is sufficiently reliable to calculate the thermal properties of nuclei over a reasonable temperature range.

Time-Like Shock Hadronization of a Supercooled Quark-Gluon Plasma

We study the energy-momentum and baryonic number conservation laws for quark-gluon plasma discontinuity transitions into hadron matter states. We find that the time-like shock hadronization of a supercooled quark-gluon plasma (when the normal vector to the discontinuity hypersurface is time-like) should take place. We consider some properties of this process, which is different from the standard space-like shock hadronization.
