Relativistic Anisotropic Polytropic Spheres: Physical Acceptability

In this work we evaluate the physical acceptability of relativistic anisotropic spheres modeled by two polytropic equations of state -- with the same newtonian limit -- commonly used to describe compact objects in General Relativity. We integrate numerically the corresponding Lane-Emden equation in order to get density, mass and pressure profiles. An ansatz is used for the anisotropic pressure allowing us to have material configurations slightly deviated from isotropic condition. Numerical models are classified in a parameter space according to the number of physical acceptability conditions that they fulfil. We found that the polytropes considering total energy density are more stable than the second type of polytropic EoS.

Are there any models with homogeneous energy density?

By applying a recent method --based on a tetrad formalism in General Relativity and the orthogonal splitting of the Riemann tensor-- to the simple spherical static case, we found that the only static solution with homogeneous energy density is the Schwarzschild solution and that there are no spherically symmetric dynamic solutions consistent with the homogeneous energy density assumption. Finally, a circular equivalence is shown among the most frequent conditions considered in the spherical symmetric case: homogeneous density, isotropy in pressures, conformally flatness and shear-free conditions. We demonstrate that, due to the regularity conditions at the center of the matter distribution, the imposition of two conditions necessarily leads to the static case.

The Latin American Giant Observatory: Contributions to the 34th International Cosmic Ray Conference (ICRC 2015)

The Latin American Giant Observatory (LAGO) is an extended cosmic ray observatory composed by a network of water-Cherenkov detectors spanning over different sites located at significantly different altitudes (from sea level up to more than $5000$\,m a.s.l.) and latitudes across Latin America, covering a huge range of geomagnetic rigidity cut-offs and atmospheric absorption/reaction levels. This detection network is designed to measure the temporal evolution of the radiation flux at ground level with extreme detail. The LAGO project is mainly oriented to perform basic research in three branches: high energy phenomena, space weather and atmospheric radiation at ground level. LAGO is built and operated by the LAGO Collaboration, a non-centralized collaborative union of more than 30 institutions from ten countries. These are the contributions of the LAGO Collaboration to the 34th International Cosmic Ray Conference, 30 July - 6 August 2015, The Hague, The Netherlands

Plausible families of compact objects with a Non Local Equation of State

We investigate the plausibility of some models emerging from an algorithm devised to generate a one-parameter family of interior solutions for the Einstein equations. It is explored how their physical variables change as the family-parameter varies. The models studied correspond to anisotropic spherical matter configurations having a non local equation of state. This particular type of equation of state with no causality problems provides, at a given point, the radial pressure not only as a function of the density but as a functional of the enclosed matter distribution. We have found that there are several model-independent tendencies as the parameter increases: the equation of state tends to be stiffer and the total mass becomes half of its external radius. Profiting from the concept of cracking of materials in General Relativity, we obtain that those models become more stable as the family parameter increases.

Constant of Motion for several one-dimensional systems and outlining the problem associated with getting their Hamiltonians

The constants of motion of the following systems are deduced: a relativistic particle with linear dissipation, a no-relativistic particle with a time explicitly depending force, a no-relativistic particle with a constant force and time depending mass, and a relativistic particle under a conservative force with position depending mass. The problem of getting the Hamiltonian for these systems is determined by getting the velocity as an explicit function of position and generalized linear momentum, and this problem can be solved a first approximation for the first above system.

A study of HI-selected galaxies in the Hercules cluster

The present study is aimed at a sample of 22 galaxies detected in the blind VLA HI survey of the Hercules cluster by Dickey (1997), 18 of which were selected on an HI line width smaller than 270 km/s and 4 others with only tentative optical counterparts on the Palomar Sky Survey. Sensitive single-dish HI line spectra were obtained for 20 of them, and for one (47-154) the VLA detection was not confirmed. Optical surface photometry was obtained of 10 objects, for 8 of which optical spectroscopy was obtained as well. Based on various selection criteria, two (ce-143 and ne-204) can be classified as dwarfs. The objects of which optical observations were made show star formation properties similar to those of published samples of actively star forming galaxies, and approximately half of them have properties intermediate between those of dwarf galaxies and low-luminosity disc galaxies. No optical redshifts could be obtained for two of the galaxies (sw-103 and sw-194) and their physical association with the HI clouds detected at their positions therefore remains uncertain. Unique among the objects is the Tidal Dwarf Galaxy ce-061 in a tail of the IC 1182 merger system.

Static Anisotropic Solutions to Einstein Equations with a Nonlocal Equation of State

We present a general method to obtain static anisotropic spherically symmetric solutions, satisfying a nonlocal equation of state, from known density profiles. This equation of state describes, at a given point, the components of the corresponding energy-momentum tensor not only as a function at that point, but as a functional throughout the enclosed configuration. In order to establish the physical aceptability of the proposed static family of solutions satisfying nonlocal equation of state,\textit{}we study the consequences imposed by the junction and energy conditions for anisotropic fluids in bounded matter distribution. It is shown that a general relativistic spherically symmetric bounded distributions of matter, at least for certain regions, could satisfy a nonlocal equation of state.
