High Performance Operation of a Direct-Current and Superconducting Radio-Frequency Combined Photocathode Gun

Superconducting radio-frequency (SRF) guns are promising candidates to deliver high brightness continuous-wave (CW) electron beams for new generations of coherent linac light sources, ultrafast electron diffractions, MeV pulsed beam applications, etc. To solve the compatibility problem of semiconductor photocathodes, a hybrid gun combining a direct-current gap and an SRF cavity has been developed. The gun, employing K2CsSb photocathodes driven by a green laser, has been brought into stable CW operation with a dark current below 100 pA, delivering electron beams at an energy gain of 2.4 MeV, an electron bunch charge of 100 pC, and a repetition rate of 1 MHz. A normalized beam emittance of 0.54 mm-mrad has been achieved at the bunch charge of 100 pC and peak current of about 6 A. CW operation at 81.25 MHz repetition rate has also been tested with the maximum average beam current reaching 3 mA.

Prospects for the Measurement of the Standard Model Higgs Pair Production at the Muon Colliders

We study the Higgs pair production process at a muon collider using b-pair decays of the Higgs bosons. Efficient identification and good measurement resolution for the b-jet pair invariant mass are crucial for unearthing the di-Higgs signal. However, the beam-induced background has potential to drastically degrade the performance. We report on the full simulation studies of the degradation of the reconstructed b-jet pair invariant mass in di-Higgs events, considering only the beam-induced background in the calorimeter. Mitigation strategies for the suppression of the beam-induced background are underway. We also report prospects for the measurement of the Standard Model Higgs pair production at the Muon Colliders at various benchmarks of the collider center of mass energy and integrated luminosity using a fast simulation program.

Muon Collider Forum Report

A multi-TeV muon collider offers a spectacular opportunity in the direct exploration of the energy frontier. Offering a combination of unprecedented energy collisions in a comparatively clean leptonic environment, a high energy muon collider has the unique potential to provide both precision measurements and the highest energy reach in one machine that cannot be paralleled by any currently available technology. The topic generated a lot of excitement in Snowmass meetings and continues to attract a large number of supporters, including many from the early career community. In light of this very strong interest within the US particle physics community, Snowmass Energy, Theory and Accelerator Frontiers created a cross-frontier Muon Collider Forum in November of 2020. The Forum has been meeting on a monthly basis and organized several topical workshops dedicated to physics, accelerator technology, and detector R&D. Findings of the Forum are summarized in this report.

Discussion on phase ambiguity and multiple beam generation in coherent beam combining system

There exists the phase ambiguity problem in the coherent beam combining (CBC) system with centrosymmetric arrays, which means that multiple different piston aberrations may generate the same far-field image. This will cause that the far-field image can not correctly reflect the phase information, resulting in the performance degradation of image-based intelligent algorithms. In this paper, we make a theoretical analysis on phase ambiguity. To the best of our knowledge, we give the number and descriptions of all solutions of the phase ambiguity problem in above system for the first time. A method to solve phase ambiguity is proposed, which requires no additional optical devices. We designed simulations to verify our conclusions and methods. We believe that our work solves the phase ambiguity problem in theory and is conducive to improving the performance of image-based algorithms. In addition, we designed a two-stage algorithm to generate Bi-beam, which have valuables application in laser propagation.

Coexistence of chiral symmetry and pseudospin symmetry in one nucleus: triplet bands in $^{105}$Ag

The nearly degenerate triplet bands with the $πg_{9/2}^{-1}\otimes νh_{11/2} (g_{7/2},d_{5/2})$ configuration in $^{105}$Ag are studied via the relativistic mean-field (RMF) theory and the multiparticle plus rotor model (MPRM), which indicates that these bands are associated with chiral symmetry and pseudospin symmetry. The configuration-fixed constrained triaxial RMF calculations exhibit the pseudospin symmetry in single particle spectra and the triaxial shape coexistence. The experimental excitation energies and the electromagnetic transition probabilities for the triplet bands are reproduced very well by the MPRM calculaitons. The chiral doublet bands show the same phase in the $B(M1)/B(E2)$ staggering, while the pseudospin doublet bands hold the opposite phase. The coexistence of chiral symmetry and pseudospin symmetry in one nucleus and its corresponding characteristic of the rotational structure are discussed for the first time.
