Sneutrino as Lightest Supersymmetric Particle in B3 mSUGRA Models and Signals at the LHC

We consider B3 mSUGRA models where we have one lepton number violating LQD operator at the GUT scale. This can alter the supersymmetric mass spectrum leading to a sneutrino as the lightest supersymmetric particle in a large region of parameter space. We take into account the restrictions from neutrino masses, the muon anomalous magnetic moment, b -> s gamma and other precision measurements. We furthermore investigate existing restrictions from direct searches at LEP, the Tevatron and the CERN p\bar p collider. We then give examples for characteristic signatures at the LHC.

Single Slepton Production in association with a single Top Quark at the Tevatron and LHC

We calculate the total cross section for single charged slepton production in association with a top quark at hadron colliders in the baryon triality (B$_3$) supersymmetric model. We compute event rates for the Tevatron and LHC. We study the signatures for different supersymmetric scenarios including neutralino and stau LSPs. We perform a detailed analysis with basic cuts for the B$_3$ operator $\lam^\prime_{231}$ using Monte Carlo simulations to show that the signal can be distinguished from the background at the LHC. In particular we employ the resulting lepton charge asymmetry.

R-Parity violating minimal supergravity at the LHC

We consider the case where supersymmetry with broken R-parity is embedded in the minimal supergravity model (mSUGRA). This alters the standard mSUGRA spectrum and opens a wide range in parameter space, where the scalar tau is the lightest supersymmetric particle, instead of the lightest neutralino. We study the resulting LHC phenomenology. Promising signatures would be detached vertices from long-lived staus, multi lepton final states and multi-tau final states. We investigate in detail the corresponding cross sections and decay rates in characteristic benchmark scenarios.

How light can the lightest neutralino be?

We show that in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model, the mass of the lightest neutralino is experimentally unconstrained if the GUT relation between the gaugino mass parameters M_1 and M_2 is dropped. We discuss what the impact of light or massless neutralinos would be on their production at LEP, as well as on electroweak precision data and rare decays.

Mass Spectrum in R-Parity Violating mSUGRA and Benchmark Points

We investigate in detail the low-energy spectrum of the R-parity violating mSUGRA model using the computer program \texttt{SOFTSUSY}. We impose the experimental constraints from the measurement of the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon, $(g-2)_μ$, the decay $b\ra sγ$ as well as the mass bounds from direct searches at colliders, in particular on the Higgs boson and the lightest chargino. We also include a new calculation for the R parity violating contribution to $\Br(B_s\ra μ^+μ^-)$. We then focus on cases where the lightest neutralino is {\em not} the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP). In this region of parameter space either the lightest scalar tau (stau) or the scalar tau neutrino (tau sneutrino) is the LSP. We suggest four benchmark points with typical spectra and novel collider signatures for detailed phenomenological analysis and simulation by the LHC collaborations.

Bounds on R-parity violating supersymmetric couplings from leptonic and semi-leptonic meson decays

We present a comprehensive update of the bounds on R-Parity violating supersymmetric couplings from lepton-flavour- and lepton-number-violating decay processes. We consider tau and mu decays as well as leptonic and semi-leptonic decays of mesons. We present several new bounds resulting from tau, eta and Kaon decays and correct some results in the literature concerning B-meson decays.

Supersymmetric NLO QCD Corrections to Resonant Slepton Production and Signals at the Tevatron and the LHC

We compute the total cross section and the transverse momentum distribution for single charged slepton and sneutrino production at hadronic colliders including NLO supersymmetric and non-supersymmetric QCD corrections. The supersymmetric QCD corrections can be substantial. We also resum the gluon transverse momentum distribution and compare our results with two Monte Carlo generators. We compute branching ratios of the supersymmetric decays of the slepton and determine event rates for the like-sign dimuon final state at the Tevatron and at the LHC.

The R-Parity Violating Minimal Supergravity Model

We present the minimal supersymmetric standard model with general broken R-parity, focusing on minimal supergravity (mSUGRA). We discuss the origins of lepton number violation in supersymmetry. We have computed the full set of coupled one-loop renormalization group equations for the gauge couplings, the superpotential parameters and for all the soft supersymmetry breaking parameters. We provide analytic formule for the scalar potential minimization conditions which may be iterated to arbitrary precision. We compute the low-energy spectrum of the superparticles and the neutrinos as a function of the small set of parameters at the unification scale in the general basis. Specializing to mSUGRA, we use the neutrino masses to set new bounds on the R-parity violating couplings. These bounds are up-to five orders of magnitude stricter than the previously existing ones. In addition, new bounds on the R-parity violating couplings are also derived demanding a non-tachyonic sneutrino spectrum. We investigate the nature of the lightest supersymmetric particle and find extensive regions in parameter space, where it is not the neutralino. This leads to a novel set of supersymmetric signatures, which we classify.

Supernovae and Light Neutralinos: SN1987A Bounds on Supersymmetry Revisited

For non-universal gaugino masses, collider experiments do not provide any lower bound on the mass of the lightest neutralino. We review the supersymmetric parameter space which leads to light neutralinos, $M_\lsp \lsim {\cal O}(1\gev)$, and find that such neutralinos are almost pure bino. In light of this, we examine the neutralino lower mass bound obtained from supernova 1987A (SN1987A). We consider the production of binos in both electron-positron annihilation and nucleon-nucleon binostrahlung. For electron-positron annihilation, we take into account the radial and temporal dependence of the temperature and degeneracy of the supernova core. We also separately consider the Raffelt criterion and show that the two lead to consistent results. For the case of bino production in $NN$ collisions, we use the Raffelt criterion and incorporate recent advances in the understanding of the strong-interaction part of the calculation in order to estimate the impact of bino radiation on the SN1987A neutrino signal. Considering these two bino production channels allows us to determine separate and combined limits on the neutralino mass as a function of the selectron and squark masses. For $M_\lsp \sim 100 \mev$ values of the selectron mass between 300 and 900 GeV are inconsistent with the supernova neutrino signal. On the other hand, in contrast to previous works, we find that SN1987A provides almost no bound on the squark masses: only a small window of values around 300 GeV can be excluded, and even then this window closes once $M_\lsp \gsim 20 \mev$.

Status of a Supersymmetric Flavour Violating Solution to the Solar Neutrino Puzzle with Three Generations

We present a general study of a three neutrino flavour transition model based on the supersymmetric interactions which violate R-parity. These interactions induce flavour violating scattering reactions between solar matter and neutrinos. The model does not contain any vacuum mass or mixing angle for the first generation neutrino. Instead, the effective mixing in the first generation is induced via the new interactions. The model provides a natural interpretation of the atmospheric neutrino anomaly, and is consistent with reactor experiments. We determine all R-parity violating couplings which can contribute to the effective neutrino oscillations, and summarize the present laboratory bounds. Independent of the specific nature of the (supersymmetric) flavour violating model, the experimental data on the solar neutrino rates and the recoil electron energy spectrum are inconsistent with the theoretical predictions. The confidence level of the $χ^2$-analysis ranges between $\sim 10^{-4}$ and $\sim 10^{-3}$. The incompatibility, is due to the new SNO results, and excludes the present model. We conclude that a non-vanishing vacuum mixing angle for the first generation neutrino is necessary in our model. We expect this also to apply to the solutions based on other flavour violating interactions having constraints of the same order of magnitude.

Trilepton Events and B_s -> mu^+ mu^- : No-lose for mSUGRA at the Tevatron?

We study the Tevatron search potential for minimal supergravity (mSUGRA) and find two observables which reveal complementary information on the mSUGRA parameter space: the ``gold-plated'' decays of charginos/neutralinos to trilepton final states and the rare decay B_s-> mu^+ mu^-. For the universal gaugino mass, M_{1/2} below 250 GeV and for the universal scalar fermion mass, M_0 outside of 200-370 GeV we face a ``no-lose'' situation for the Tevatron: If tan(beta) < 30, the Tevatron has a chance to see the trilepton events but not B_s -> mu^+ mu^- during Run IIa, whereas for larger tan(beta) the trilepton events become invisible (at least with an integrated luminosity of 2 fb^{-1}) while B_s -> mu^+ mu^- is enhanced to an observable level. For this study we perform an updated analysis of the trilepton signature which includes the full set of the decay matrix elements and spin correlations. This leads to a new, more promising search reach for the Tevatron.

Correlation of B_s -> mu^+ mu^- and (g-2)_mu in Minimal Supergravity

We analyse the rare decay mode B_s -> mu^+ mu^- in the minimal supergravity scenario (mSUGRA). We find a strong correlation with the muon anomalous magnetic moment (g-2)_mu. An interpretation of the recently measured excess in (g-2)_mu in terms of mSUGRA corrections implies a substantial supersymmetric enhancement of the branching ratio Br(B_s -> mu^+ mu^-): if (g-2)_mu exceeds the Standard Model prediction by 4*10^{-9}, Br(B_s -> mu^+ mu^-) is larger by a factor of 10-100 than in the Standard Model and within reach of Run-II of the Tevatron. Thus an experimental search for B_s -> mu^+ mu^- is a stringent test of the mSUGRA GUT scale boundary conditions. If the decay B_s -> mu^+ mu^- is observed at Run-II of the Tevatron, then we predict the mass of the lightest supersymmetric Higgs boson to be less than 120 GeV. The decay B_s -> mu^+ mu^- can also significantly probe the favoured parameter range in SO(10) SUSY GUT models.

A Light Bottom Squark in the MSSM

We study the compatibility of a light bottom squark M_{\tilde b}< O(10 GeV) in the unconstrained MSSM. We consider the one-loop radiative corrections which are large for a heavy gluino (> O(150 GeV)). We then consider the renormalization group flow up to the Grand Unified scale. For most regions of the parameter space with a light sbottom we find colour and charge breaking minima. Only a small window in gluino mass and tan(beta) is consistent with all bounds. This is alleviated by a light gluino, which is however only marginally experimentally allowed.

Dipole moments of the Electron, Neutrino and Neutron in the MSSM without R-parity Symmetry

We show that in the MSSM without R-parity symmetry there are no new contributions to electron and neutron electric dipole moments (EDMs) at 1-loop induced by the R-parity violating Yukawa couplings. Non-zero EDMs for the electron and neutron first arise at the 2-loop level. As an example we estimate the contribution of a two-loop graph which induces electron EDMs. On the other hand, we show that the (Majorana) neutrino electric and magnetic transition moments are non-zero even at the 1-loop level. Constraints on the R-parity violating couplings are derived from the existing bounds on the neutrino dipole moments.

Bounds on R-parity Violating Couplings at the Weak Scale and at the GUT Scale

We present an update of the most stringent experimental bounds on the trilinear R-parity violating couplings. We then analyse bounds on the R-parity violating couplings at the unification scale by renormalising the weak scale bounds. We derive unification scale upper bounds upon the couplings which are broadly independent of the fermion mass texture assumed. The R-parity violating couplings are factors of two to five more severely bounded at the unification scale than at the electroweak scale. In the presence of quark mixing, a few of the bounds are orders of magnitude stronger than their weak scale counterparts due to new R-parity violating operators being induced in the renormalisation between high and low scales. These induced bounds are fermion mass texture dependent. New bounds upon the weak scale couplings are obtained by the requirement of perturbativity between the weak and unification scales. A comprehensive set of the latest limits is included.

2-Loop Supersymmetric Renormalisation Group Equations Including R-Parity Violation and Aspects of Unification

We present the complete 2-loop renormalisation group equations of the superpotential parameters for the supersymmetric standard model including the full set of R-parity violating couplings. We use these equations to do a study of (a) gauge coupling unification, (b) bottom-tau unification, (c) the fixed-point structure of the top quark Yukawa coupling, and (d) two-loop bounds from perturbative unification. For large values of the R-parity violating coupling, the value of α_S(M_Z) predicted from unification can be reduced by 5% with respect to the R-parity conserving case, bringing it to within 2σof the observed value. Bottom-tau Yukawa unification becomes potentially valid for any value of \tanβ\sim 2-50. The prediction of the top Yukawa coupling from the low \tanβ, infra-red quasi fixed point can be lowered by up to 10%, raising \tanβup to a maximum of 5 and relaxing experimental constraints upon the quasi-fixed point scenario. For heavy scalar fermion masses of order 1 Tev the limits on the higher family ΔL\not=0 operators from perturbative unification are competitive with the indirect laboratory bounds. We calculate the dependence of these bounds upon \tan β.
