Extending the model of rotating acoustic geometries to include nonvanishing solid-body rotation: Quasibound spectra

In a very recent paper, we computed the quasibound states of massless acoustic excitations interacting with a new (effective) acoustic geometry with circulation. Notably, the behavior of this acoustic black hole aligns with the phenomenology observed in recent experiments that include superfluids. Such vortex fluid flow bundles exhibit solid-body rotation at length scales larger than the inter-vortex distance, which adds some complexity to the study of quantum fluid behavior. To theoretically deal with this issue, we present an extension of our previous results by including a solid-body rotation term at the angular fluid velocity and then we perform a spectral study by using the analytical solutions for the scalar wave equation of motion. The resulting analytically solvable framework bridges idealized acoustic black-hole models and experimentally motivated rotating-fluid configurations, providing a more realistic description of quasibound state spectra in analog gravity.

Quasibound states of massive charged scalars around dilaton black holes in $2+1$ dimensions: Exact frequencies

In this work, we investigate massive charged scalar perturbations in the background of three-dimensional dilaton black holes with a cosmological constant. We demonstrate that the wave equations governing the dynamics of these perturbations are exactly solvable, with the radial part expressible in terms of confluent Heun functions. The quasibound state frequencies are computed analytically, and we examine their dependence on the scalar field's mass and charge, as well as on the black hole's mass and electric charge. Our analysis also underscores the crucial role played by the cosmological constant in shaping the behavior of these perturbations. This specific black hole metric arises as a solution to the low-energy effective action of string theory in $2+1$ dimensions, and it holds potential for experimental realization in analog gravity systems due to the similarity between its surface gravity and that of acoustic analogs. Moreover, the analytic tractability of this system offers a valuable testing ground for exploring aspects of black hole spectroscopy, stability, and quantum field theory in curved spacetime. The exact solvability facilitates deeper insights into the interplay between geometry and matter fields in lower-dimensional gravity, where quantum gravitational effects can be more pronounced. Such studies not only enrich our understanding of dilaton gravity and its string-theoretic implications but also pave the way for potential applications in simulating black hole phenomena in laboratory settings using analog models.

Vortices without inflow: bound spectra in horizonless rotational analogs

Analog gravity experiments are making remarkable strides in unveiling both the classical and quantum nature of black holes. By harnessing diverse states of matter, contemporary tabletop setups now replicate strong-field phenomena typically confined to the enigmatic regions surrounding black holes. Through these modern gravity simulators, physical processes once considered elusive may finally be brought into experimental reach. In this work, we investigate the spectrum of massless scalar excitations propagating within the effective geometry of a rotating acoustic metric. Specifically, we build an analog vortex-like spacetime endowed with a tunable parameter that emulates the geometry of a rotating gravitational background. This model accommodates both the presence of a sonic horizon, characteristic of an acoustic black hole for non-zero tuning parameters, and its absence when the parameter vanishes, yielding a horizonless, purely rotational vortex flow devoid of radial inflow. We focus on the case where the vortex flow is purely rotational. The resulting spectral properties is found to be qualitatively consistent with that observed in recent experimental realizations of giant multiply quantum vortices featuring solid or hollow cores. This correspondence suggests that the analog spacetime used here holds significant potential to replicate, qualitatively, the phenomenology of cutting-edge laboratory experiments. In doing so, it offers new insight into the intricate landscape of analog black-hole spectroscopy and, potentially, the resonant topography of bounded, rotating astrophysical environments around black holes.

The sound of quintessence: analogue Kiselev acoustic black holes

In this work, we demonstrate that the geometry of a spherically symmetric black hole surrounded by a Kiselev anisotropic fluid can be effectively mimicked by an experimental setup as the ones used to investigate some physical phenomena associated with acoustic black holes. Thus, we construct the metric describing Kiselev acoustic black holes by using the Gross--Pitaevskii theory and present a general analytical solution that encompasses, as particular cases, several classes of geometries associated with black holes. This unified framework allows for the description of a wide variety of analogue spacetimes, including new analogue geometries that have not been previously explored in the literature. Then, we examine the behavior of scalar field perturbations in this background by solving the massless Klein--Gordon equation. Depending on the boundary conditions between the acoustic event horizon and infinity, we obtain the quasinormal and quasibound spectra. This study opens up avenues for experimental investigation within the context of analog gravity models, by offering new possibilities to simulate and study black hole phenomena in laboratory settings.

Perturbing the vortex: quasinormal and quasibound spectra of rotating acoustic geometries

Strong-field gravity simulators are laboratory experiments that can investigate a wide range of both classical and quantum phenomena occurring in nature. In this work, we introduce an effective geometry that captures most of the characteristics of the strong-field regime of astrophysical, rotating black holes. This geometry can represent a vortex made from a variety of fluid and superfluid profiles with zero viscosity, making it a promising finite-temperature quantum-field-theory simulator for rotating curved spacetimes. Our geometry includes not only the typical radial flow which gives rise to an acoustic horizon, but also azimuthal circulation of the fluid. We compute the quasinormal modes, semi-analytically, and the exact quasibound states of acoustic excitations interacting with this effective geometry. The resulting spectra can be identified for both co-rotating and counter-rotating surface acoustic waves. In particular, the behavior of our acoustic geometry with circulation aligns with the phenomenology observed in recent experiments that include superfluids.

On the five-dimensional non-extremal Reissner-Nordström black hole: Retractions and scalar quasibound states

In this paper, we examine the role played by topology, and some specific boundary conditions as well, on the physics of a higher-dimensional black hole. We analyze the line element of a five-dimensional non-extremal Reissner-Nordström black hole to obtain a new family of subspaces that are types of strong retractions and deformations, and then we extend these results to higher dimensions in order to deduce the relationship between various types of transformations. We also study the scalar field perturbations in the background under consideration and obtain an analytical expression for the quasibound state frequencies by using the Vieira-Bezerra-Kokkotas approach, which uses the polynomial conditions of the general Heun functions, and then we discuss the stability of the system and present the radial eigenfunctions. Our main goal is to discuss the physical meaning of these mathematical applications in such higher-dimensional effective metric.

Quasibound states of analytic black-hole configurations in three and four dimensions

In this work we analyze the sound perturbation of Unruh's acoustic effective geometry in both (2+1) and (3+1) spacetime dimensions and present an exact analytical expression for the quasibound states of these idealized black-hole configurations by using a new approach recently developed, which uses the polynomial conditions of the hypergeometric functions. Our main goal is to discuss the effects of having an event horizon in such effective metrics. We also discuss the stability of the systems and present the radial eigenfunctions related to these quasibound state frequencies. These metrics assume just the form it has for a Schwarzschild black hole near the event horizon, and therefore may, in principle, shed some light into the underlying classical and quantum physics of astrophysical black holes through analog acoustic probes.

Analog Schwarzschild black holes of Bose-Einstein condensates in a cavity: Quasinormal modes and quasibound states

Analog models of black holes have unequivocally proven to be extremely beneficial in providing critical information regarding black hole spectroscopy, superradiance, quantum phenomena and most importantly Hawking radiation and black hole evaporation; topics that have either recently begun to bloom through gravitational wave observations or have not yet been investigated in astrophysical setups. Black hole analog experiments have made astonishing steps toward the aforementioned directions and are paramount in understanding the quantum nature of the gravitational field. Recently, a tabletop analog Schwarzschild black hole has been proposed by placing Bose-Einstein condensates of photons inside a mirror's cavity, leading to a sink with a radial vortex that represents a velocity singularity. Here, we provide an extensive spectral analysis of both the tabletop acoustic black hole and its higher-dimensional gravitational analog. We find that quasinormal modes and quasibound states share qualitative similarities in both systems and show that the eikonal quasinormal modes of the analog acoustic black hole have a photon-sphere-like interpretation, which points to the existence of a phonon sphere in the analog black hole. Our results, complemented with the recently calculated graybody factors and Hawking radiation of the acoustic analog, can provide a theoretical test bed for future tabletop experiments with condensates of light in a mirror's cavity and provide significant insights regarding classical and quantum phenomena in higher-dimensional black holes.

Quasibound States, Stability and Wave Functions of the Test Fields in the Consistent 4D Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet Gravity

We examine the interaction between quantum test particles and the gravitational field generated by a black hole solution that was recently obtained in the consistent 4-dimensional Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity. While quasinormal modes of scalar, electromagnetic, and Dirac fields have been recently studied in this theory, there is no such study for the quasibound states. Here, we calculate the spectrum of quasibound states for the test fields in a spherically symmetric and asymptotically flat black hole solution in the consistent 4-dimensional Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity. The quasispectrum of resonant frequencies is obtained by using the polynomial condition associated to the general Heun functions. We also discuss the stability of the systems for some values of the Gauss-Bonnet coupling constant.

Instability of the charged massive scalar field on the Kerr-Newman black hole spacetime

We investigate the quasibound states of charged massive scalar fields in the Kerr-Newman black hole spacetime by using a new approach recently developed, which uses the polynomial conditions of the Heun functions. We calculate the resonant frequencies related to the spectrum of quasibound states, as well as its corresponding angular and radial wave eigenfunctions. We also analyze the instability of the system. These results are particularized to the cases of Schwarzschild and Kerr black holes. Additionally, we compare our analytical results with the numerical ones known in the literature. Finally, we apply the obtained results to compute the characteristic times of growth and decay of bosonic particles around a supermassive black hole situated at the center of the M87 galaxy.

Some aspects of the five-dimensional Lovelock black hole spacetime: strong homotopy retract, perihelion precession and quasistationary levels

In this work we explore some mathematical physics aspects of the spherically symmetric Lovelock black hole in high dimensions. Intended for this aim, we thoroughly consider the metric corresponding to the five-dimensional Lovelock black hole spacetime. We construct the strong retractions by the geodesic equations on the background under consideration. As a result, from the topological point of view, we construct the theory of strong homotopy retract, which will allow us, in principle, to better understand some of its suitable applications on astrophysics and cosmology, in particular, in the analysis of the spacetime singularities. We find the solutions of the equation of motion for both radial and angular coordinates, and then we describe the outer ("exterior") and lower ("interior") apparent horizons. Indeed, the outer apparent horizon is the last surface from which the light waves could still escape from the black hole. Thus, it is meaningful to analyze some physical phenomena related to quantum particles propagating outside the exterior apparent horizon, in particular, we discuss the quasistationary levels of scalar fields and their radial wave functions, which are given in terms of the general Heun functions. We also calculate the perihelion precession in this background.

Quasibound states of scalar fields in the consistent 4D Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet-(Anti-)de Sitter gravity

We examine the interaction between massless scalar fields and the gravitational field generated by a black hole solution that was recently obtained in the consistent well-defined 4-dimensional Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity with a cosmological constant. In order to do this, we calculate quasibound state frequencies of scalar fields for the spherically symmetric black hole in the consistent 4-dimensional Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet-de Sitter and Anti-de Sitter theories. The expression for the quasibound states is obtained by using the polynomial condition associated to the Heun functions, and their values are overdamped. We also demonstrate the stability of the systems.

Slowly-rotating curved acoustic black holes: Quasinormal modes, Hawking-Unruh radiation and quasibound states

Astrophysical black holes are generally surrounded by accretion disks, galactic matter and the omnipresent cosmic microwave background radiation, thus allowing for the concurrent propagation of both gravitational and sound waves. Recently, acoustic black holes were embedded in Schwarzschild spacetime allowing for the coexistence of event and acoustic horizons. Here, we obtain a class of perturbative solutions to the field equations of the relativistic Gross-Pitaevskii and Yang-Mills theories, which describe sound waves propagating on a curved slowly-rotating acoustic black hole, akin to Lense-Thirring spacetime. We investigate the quasinormal mode frequencies, Hawking-Unruh radiation, and quasibound states. Our novel metric mimics the gravitational field of astrophysical compact objects in the limiting case of slow rotation, and therefore could, in principle, shed more light into the underlying classical and quantum physics of black holes through analog acoustic probes.

On the Schwarzschild-Anti-de Sitter black hole with an f(R) global monopole

In this work, we follow the recently revisited f(R) theory of gravity for studying the interaction between quantum scalar particles and the gravitational field of a generalized black hole with an f(R) global monopole. This background has a term playing the role of an effective cosmological constant, which permits us to call it as Schwarzschild-Anti-de Sitter (SAdS) black hole with an f(R) global monopole. We examine the separability of the Klein-Gordon equation with a non-minimal coupling and then we discuss both the massless and massive cases for a conformal coupling. We investigate some physical phenomena related to the asymptotic behavior of the radial function, namely, the black hole radiation, the quasibound states, and the wave eigenfunctions.

Quasibound states of Schwarzschild acoustic black holes

In this paper, we study the recently proposed Schwarzschild acoustic black hole spacetime, in which we investigate some physical phenomena related to the effective geometry of this background, including the analogous Hawking radiation and the quasibound states. We calculate the spectrum of quasibound state frequencies and the wave functions on the Schwarzschild acoustic background by using the polynomial condition of the general Heun function, and then we discuss the stability of the system. We also compare the resonant frequencies of the Schwarzschild acoustic black hole with the ones by the standard Schwarzschild black hole. Our results may shed some light on the physics of black holes and their analog models in condensed matter. Moreover, these studies could provide the possibility, in principle, for laboratory testing of effects whose nature is unquestionably associated with purely quantum effects in gravity.

Ellis-Bronnikov Wormholes in Asymptotically Safe Gravity

In this paper, we investigate the simplest wormhole solution - the Ellis-Bronnikov one - in the context of the Asymptotically Safe Gravity (ASG) at the Planck scale. We work with three models, which employ Ricci scalar, Kretschmann scalar, and squared Ricci tensor to improve the field equations by turning the Newton constant into a running coupling constant. For all the cases, we check the radial energy conditions of the wormhole solution and compare them with those valid in General Relativity (GR). We verify that asymptotic safety guarantees that the Ellis-Bronnikov wormhole can satisfy the radial energy conditions at the throat radius, $r_0$, within an interval of values of this latter. That is quite different from the result found in GR. Following, we evaluate the effective radial state parameter, $ω(r)$, at $r_0$, showing that the quantum gravitational effects modify Einstein's field equations in such a way that it is necessary a very exotic source of matter to generate the wormhole spacetime -- phantom or quintessence-like. That occurs within some ranges of throat radii, even though the energy conditions are or not violated there. Finally, we find that, although at $r_0$ we have a quintessence-like matter, on growing of $r$ we necessarily come across phantom-like regions. We speculate if such a phantom fluid must always be present in wormholes in the ASG context or even in more general quantum gravity scenarios.

Quantum relativistic cosmology: dynamical interpretation and tunneling universe

In this work the wave functions associated to the quantum relativistic universe, which is described by the Wheeler-DeWitt equation, are obtained. Taking into account different kinds of energy density, namely, matter, radiation, vacuum, dark energy, and quintessence, we discuss some aspects of the quantum dynamics. In all these cases, the wave functions of the quantum relativistic universe are given in terms of the triconfluent Heun functions. We investigate the expansion of the universe using these solutions and found that the asymptotic behavior for the scale factor is $a(t) \sim \mbox{e}^{t}$ for whatever the form of energy density is. On the other hand, we analyze the behavior at early stages of the universe and found that $a(t) \sim t^{1/2}$. We also calculate and analyze the transmission coefficient through the effective potential barrier.

Class of solutions of the Wheeler-DeWitt equation with ordering parameter

In this letter, we discuss the Wheeler-DeWitt equation with an ordering parameter in the Friedmann-Robertson-Walker universe. The solutions when the universe was very small and at the end of the expansion are obtained in terms of Bessel and Heun functions, respectively. We also obtain a boundary condition which should be satisfied by the ordering parameter, namely, $0 \leq p \leq 2$. We investigate the minimum value of the scale factor with respect to the maximum value of the probability density.
