Three-Quark Potential in SU(3) Lattice QCD

The static three-quark (3Q) potential is measured in the SU(3) lattice QCD with $12^3 \times 24$ and $β=5.7$ at the quenched level. From the 3Q Wilson loop, the 3Q ground-state potential $V_{\rm 3Q}$ is extracted using the smearing technique for the ground-state enhancement. With accuracy better than a few %, $V_{\rm 3Q}$ is well described by a sum of a constant, the two-body Coulomb term and the three-body linear confinement term $σ_{\rm 3Q} L_{\rm min}$, where $L_{\rm min}$ denotes the minimal length of the color flux tube linking the three quarks. By comparing with the Q-$\bar {\rm Q}$ potential, we find a universal feature of the string tension, $σ_{\rm 3Q} \simeq σ_{\rm Q \bar Q}$, as well as the one-gluon-exchange result for the Coulomb coefficient, $A_{\rm 3Q} \simeq \frac12 A_{\rm Q \bar Q}$.

Static three quark potential in the quenched lattice QCD

We study the static three quark potential using lattice QCD simulation. At zero temperature, the three quark potential is extracted from the baryonic Wilson loop and fitted to the phenomenological form, the sum of the Coulomb term, linearly rising term and the constant. We compare two types of the linear term, ``$Y$'' and ``$Δ$'' type, and find that the string tension almost coincide with $σ_{Q\bar{Q}}$ in the former case. We also investigate the three quark potential at finite temperature using the Polyakov loop correlation. In the deconfined phase, the screened potential is observed similarly to the case of $Q\bar{Q}$ system.

Quark Confinement Physics in Quantum Chromodynamics

We study abelian dominance and monopole condensation for the quark confinement physics using the lattice QCD simulations in the MA gauge. These phenomena are closely related to the dual superconductor picture of the QCD vacuum, and enable us to construct the dual Ginzburg-Landau (DGL) theory as an useful effective theory of nonperturbative QCD. We then apply the DGL theory to the studies of the low-lying hadron structure and the scalar glueball properties.

Off-diagonal Gluon Mass Generation and Infrared Abelian Dominance in the Maximally Abelian Gauge in Lattice QCD

We study effective mass generation of off-diagonal gluons and infrared abelian dominance in the maximally abelian (MA) gauge. Using the SU(2) lattice QCD, we investigate the propagator and the effective mass of the gluon field in the MA gauge with the U(1)$_3$ Landau gauge fixing. The Monte Carlo simulation is performed on the $12^3 \times 24$ lattice with $2.2 \le β\le 2.4$, and also on the $16^4$ and $20^4$ lattices with $2.3 \le β\le 2.4$. In the MA gauge, the diagonal gluon component $A_μ^3$ shows long-range propagation, and infrared abelian dominance is found for the gluon propagator. In the MA gauge, the off-diagonal gluon component $A_μ^\pm$ behaves as a massive vector boson with the effective mass $M_{\rm off} \simeq 1.2$ GeV in the region of $r \gsim 0.2$ fm, and its propagation is limited within short range. We conjecture that infrared abelian dominance can be interpreted as infrared inactivity of the off-diagonal gluon due to its large mass generation induced by the MA gauge fixing.

Effective Mass Generation of Off-diagonal Gluons and Abelian Dominance in the Maximally Abelian Gauge in QCD

We study the properties of gluons in QCD in the maximally abelian (MA) gauge. In the MA gauge, the off-diagonal gluon behaves as the massive vector boson with the mass $\Meff \simeq 1.2 {\rm GeV}$, and therefore the off-diagonal gluon cannot carry the long-range interaction for $r \gg \Meff^{-1} \simeq 0.2$ fm. The essence of the infrared abelian dominance in the MA gauge is physically explained with the generation of the off-diagonal gluon mass $\Meff \simeq 1.2 {\rm GeV}$ induced by the MA gauge fixing, and the off-diagonal gluon mass generation would predict general infrared abelian dominance in QCD in the MA gauge. We report also the off-diagonal gluon propagator at finite temperature.

Confinement Physics and Topology in QCD

Based on the dual-superconductor picture, we study the confinement physics in QCD in terms of the monopole in the maximally abelian (MA) gauge using the SU(2) lattice QCD. In the MA gauge, the off-diagonal gluon component is forced to be small, and hence microscopic abelian dominance on the link variable is observed in the lattice QCD for the whole region of $β$. From the gluon-propagator analysis in the lattice QCD, the origin of abelian dominance for the long-range physics is interpreted as the effective mass $m_{ch} \simeq 0.9 {\rm GeV}$ of the charged gluon induced by the MA gauge fixing. In the MA gauge, there appears the macroscopic network of the monopole world-line covering the whole system, which would be identified as monopole condensation at a large scale. Using the dual Wilson loop in the MA gauge, we find the effective mass of the dual gluon field, $m_B \simeq $0.5GeV, which is the evidence of the dual Higgs mechanism by monopole condensation. The large fluctuation of off-diagonal gluons remains around the monopole in the MA gauge, and this charged-gluon rich region would provide the effective monopole size as the critical scale of the abelian projected QCD. Instantons are expected to appear in the charged-gluon rich region around the monopole world-line in the MA gauge, which leads to the local correlation between monopoles and instantons.

Instantons and Monopoles for Nonperturbative QCD

We study the nonperturbative QCD in terms of topological objects, i.e., QCD-monopoles and instantons. In the 't Hooft abelian gauge, QCD is reduced into an abelian gauge theory with QCD-monopoles, and the confinement mechanism can be understood with the dual superconductor picture. Regarding the flux-tube ring as the glueball, we study the glueball properties by combining the dual Ginzburg-Landau theory and the Nambu-Goto action. We find the strong correlations between instantons and monopole world-lines both in the continuum theory and in the lattice QCD. The nonperturbative QCD vacuum is filled with instantons and monopoles, and dense instantons generate a macroscopic network of the monopole world-line, which would be responsible for the confinement force in the infrared region.

Properties of the QCD vacuum in the dual Ginzburg-Landau theory

We study the properties of the QCD vacuum in the dual Ginzburg-Landau theory, where QCD-monopole condensation leads to the linear confinement potential. Using the effective potential, we find monopole dominance for chiral-symmetry breaking. The effective mass of off-diagonal (charged) gluons is estimated as $M_{ch} \simeq 1.31$ GeV. The gluon condensate is calculated as $<\frac{α_{s}}πG^2 > = (344 MeV)^4$.

Correlation between Confinement and Chiral-Symmetry Breaking in the Dual Higgs Theory

We study the correlation between confinement and dynamical chiral-symmetry breaking (D$χ$SB) in the dual Ginzburg-Landau (DGL) theory using the effective potential formalism. The DGL theory is an infrared effective theory based on the dual Higgs mechanism, and provides the nonperturbative gluon propagator, which leads to the linear quark potential. The screening effect for the confining potential can be obtained by introducing the infrared cutoff corresponding to the hadron size. We formulate the effective potential for D$χ$SB in the DGL theory, and find the vacuum instability against quark condensation. To extract confinement effect, we separate the effective potential into the confinement part and others by dividing the confinement term from other terms in the gluon propagator in the DGL theory. The confinement part provides the dominant contribution to D$χ$SB, which is regarded as monopole dominance for D$χ$SB. The relevant energy for D$χ$SB is found to be the infrared region below 1GeV. Monopole dominance for the DGL propagator is also found in the intermediate region, 0.2fm $\simle r \simle$ 1fm.

Surface Tension in the Mixed Phase of QCD in the Dual Ginzburg-Landau Theory

We study the surface tensions in the mixed phase of QCD in the dual Ginzburg-Landau theory, where the QCD-monopole condensate is the order parameter on the confinement. First, we consider the thermal mixed phase, and derive the analytical expressions for the surface tension and the boundary thickness in terms of the shape of the effective potential. We study also the properties of the spherical hadron bubble in the quark-gluon-plasma phase at finite temperature. Second, we study the surface tension in the mixed phase with the external color-electric field at zero temperature. In the type-II dual superconductor, the individual flux tubes with unit color flux are stable. On the other hand, the flux tubes tend to melt into a huge tube, which is energetically favored, in the type-I case.

Monopole Dominance for Dynamical Chiral-Symmetry Breaking in the Dual Ginzburg-Landau Theory

Using the effective potential formalism, we study dynamical chiral symmetry breaking (D$χ$SB) in the dual Ginzburg-Landau (DGL) theory, where the color confinement is brought by monopole condensation. The effective potential as a function of infrared quark mass is found to have double-well structure, which leads to spontaneous breaking of chiral symmetry. To examine the role of confinement, we divide the effective potential into the confinement part and others, which correspond to the confinement term and other (Yukawa, Coulomb) terms of the gluon propagator in the DGL theory. It is found that the confinement part gives the dominating contribution to the \dcsb, which is regarded as monopole dominance for D$χ$SB.

Confinement and Topological Charge in the Abelian Gauge of QCD

We study the relation between instantons and monopoles in the abelian gauge. First, we investigate the monopole in the multi-instanton solution in the continuum Yang-Mills theory using the Polyakov gauge. At a large instanton density, the monopole trajectory becomes highly complicated, which can be regarded as a signal of monopole condensation. Second, we study instantons and monopoles in the SU(2) lattice gauge theory both in the maximally abelian (MA) gauge and in the Polyakov gauge. Using the $16^3 \times 4$ lattice, we find monopole dominance for instantons in the confinement phase even at finite temperatures. A linear-type correlation is found between the total monopole-loop length and the integral of the absolute value of the topological density (the total number of instantons and anti-instantons) in the MA gauge. We conjecture that instantons enhance the monopole-loop length and promote monopole condensation.

QCD Phase Transition and Hadron Bubble Formation in the Dual Ginzburg-Landau Theory

We study the QCD phase transition at finite temperature and discuss the hadron bubble formation in the dual Ginzburg-Landau theory, which is an effective theory of QCD and describes the color confinement via QCD-monopole condensation. We formulate the effective potential at various temperatures and find that thermal effects reduce the QCD-monopole condensate and bring a first-order deconfinement phase transition. Based on this effective potential at finite temperature, we investigate properties of hadron bubbles created in the early Universe and discuss the hadron bubble formation process.

The System of Multi Color-flux-tubes in the Dual Ginzburg-Landau Theory

We study the system of multi color-flux-tubes in terms of the dual Ginzburg -Landau theory. We consider two ideal cases, where the directions of all the color-flux-tubes are the same in one case and alternative in the other case for neighboring flux-tubes. We formulate the system of multi color-flux -tubes by regarding it as the system of two color-flux-tubes penetrating through a two dimensional sphere surface. We find the multi flux-tube configuration becomes uniform above some critical flux-tube number density $ρ_c = 1.3 \sim 1.7 {\rm fm}^{-2}$. On the other hand, the inhomogeneity on the color electric distribution appears when the flux-tube density is smaller than $ρ_c$. We discuss the relation between the inhomogeneity in the color-electric distribution and the flux-tube number density in the multi-flux-tube system created during the QGP formation process in the ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collision.

Correlation between Instantons and QCD-monopoles in the Abelian Gauge

The correlation between instantons and QCD-monopoles is studied both in the lattice gauge theory and in the continuum theory. From a simple topological consideration, instantons are expected to live only around the QCD-monopole trajectory in the abelian gauge. First, the instanton solution is analytically studied in the Polyakov-like gauge, where $A_4(x)$ is diagonalized. The world line of the QCD-monopole is found to be penetrate the center of each instanton inevitably. For the single-instanton solution, the QCD-monopole trajectory becomes a simple straight line. On the other hand, in the multi-instanton system, the QCD-monopole trajectory often has complicated topology including a loop or a folded structure, and is unstable against a small fluctuation of the location and the size of instantons. We also study the thermal instanton system in the Polyakov-like gauge. At the high-temperature limit, the monopole trajectory becomes straight lines in the temporal direction. The topology of the QCD-monopole trajectory is drastically changed at a high temperature. Second, the correlation between instantons and QCD-monopoles is studied in the maximally abelian (MA) gauge and/or the Polyakov gauge using the SU(2) lattice with $16^4$. The abelian link variable $u_μ(s)$ is decomposed into the singular (monopole-dominating) part $u_μ^{Ds}(s)$ and the regular (photon-dominating) part $u_μ^{Ph}(s)$. The instanton numbers, $Q({\rm Ds})$ and $Q({\rm Ph})$, are measured using the SU(2) variables, $U_μ^{Ds}(s)$ and $U_μ^{Ph}(s)$, which are reconstructed by multiplying the off-diagonal matter factor to $u_μ^{Ds}(s)$ and $u_μ^{Ph}(s)$, respectively. A strong correlation is found between $Q({\rm Ds})$ in the singular part and the ordinary topological charge $Q({\rm SU(2)})$ even after the Cabibbo-Marinari

Instanton and QCD-monopole Trajectory in the Abelian Dominating System

Dual Ginzburg-Landau Theory for Nonperturbative QCD

Nonperturbative QCD is studied with the dual Ginzburg-Landau theory, where color confinement is realized through the dual Higgs mechanism by QCD-monopole condensation. We obtain a general analytic formula for the string tension. A compact formula is derived for the screened inter-quark potential in the presence of light dynamical quarks. The QCD phase transition at finite temperature is studied using the effective potential formalism. The string tension and the QCD-monopole mass are largely reduced near the critical temperature, $T_c$. The surface tension is estimated from the effective potential at $T_c$. We propose also a new scenario of the quark-gluon-plasma creation through the color-electric flux-tube annihilation. Finally, we discuss a close relation between instantons and QCD-monopoles.

Dual Ginzburg-Landau Theory and Chiral Symmetry Breaking

We study the properties of quarks, being confined in hadrons, with the Schwinger-Dyson equation in the dual Ginzburg-Landau Theory. Magnetic monopole condensation, which provides quark confinement, is demonstrated responsible also for dynamical chiral-symmetry breaking. We discuss then the recovery of the chiral symmetry at finite temperature.
