The volume dependence of the long-range two-body potentials in various color channels by lattice QCD

We study the color-dependent confining forces between two quarks by the quenched lattice simulations of Coulomb gauge QCD. The color-singlet and color-antitriplet instantaneous potentials yield attractive forces. The ratio of the string tensions obtained from them is approximately 2 and have little volume dependence. Meanwhile, the color-octet and color-sextet channels give a minor contribution for two-quark system. We finally find that the infrared self-energy of the color-nonsinglet channels diverges in the infinite volume limit; however, the degree of the divergence on the finite lattice can be understood in terms of color factors.

Chiral SU(3) Bethe Salpeter Model: Extension to SU(6) and SU(8) Spin-Flavor Symmetries

Consistent SU(6) and SU(8) spin-flavor extensions of the SU(3) flavor Weinberg-Tomozawa (WT) meson-baryon chiral Lagrangian are constructed, which incorporate vector meson degrees of freedom. In the charmless sector, the on-shell approximation to the Bethe-Salpeter (BS) approach successfully reproduces previous SU(3) WT results for the lowest-lying s--wave negative parity baryon resonances. It also provides some information on the dynamics of heavier ones and of the lightest d-wave negative parity resonances, as e.g. the Lambda(1520). For charmed baryons the scheme is consistent with heavy quark symmetry, and our preliminary results in the strangeness-less charm C=+1 sector describe the main features of the three-star J^P=1/2^- Lambda_c(2595) and J^P=3/2^- Lambda_c(2625) resonances. We also find a second broad J^P=1/2^- state close to the Lambda_c(2595)

Reflection asymmetric relativistic mean field approach and its application to the octupole deformed nucleus $^{226}$Ra

A Reflection ASymmetric Relativistic Mean Field (RAS-RMF) approach is developed by expanding the equations of motion for both the nucleons and the mesons on the eigenfunctions of the two-center harmonic-oscillator potential. The efficiency and reliability of the RAS-RMF approach are demonstrated in its application to the well-known octupole deformed nucleus $^{226}$Ra and the available data, including the binding energy and the deformation parameters, are well reproduced.

Effect of negative energy components for two-nucleon systems in the relativistic framework with the separable ansatz

We investigate the electromagnetic properties of the deuteron such as the charge and magnetic form factors by solving the Bethe-Salpeter equation (BSE) with the separable ansatz. In solving the deuteron bound state solution to the BSE, we include negative energy components of $P$-wave in addition to the $^3S_1$ and $^3D_1$ states of positive energy, employing a rank IV separable ansatz. We found that the inclusion of the negative energy components improves systematically the electromagnetic properties which are not described in the conventional non-relativistic impulse approximation.

A theoretical view on bound antikaon-nuclear states

We present an overview of the latest theoretical studies on the antikaon properties in the nuclear medium, in connection with the recent experimental claims of very deeply bound antikaon-nuclear states. We argue that proper many-body formulations using modern realistic antikaon-nucleon interactions are not able to generate such systems. Instead, a simple two-nucleon antikaon absorption mechanism where the remaining nucleus acts as spectator explains the peak in the semi-inclusive proton momentum spectrum, observed on a 4He target at KEK (but later not confirmed in an inclusive experiment) and on a 6Li target at FINUDA. This signal is clearly seen in another FINUDA experiment measuring the invariant mass of Lambda-proton pairs after two-nucleon kaon absorption. We show that another peak of this experiment, seen at lower invariant masses and interpreted as a bound K-pp state, is simply generated by the same two-nucleon absorption mechanism followed by final-state interactions of the produced particles with the residual nucleus. Our conclusion is that all the experimental claims for the formation of very deeply bound antikaonic nuclear systems receive an alternative explanation in terms of conventional nuclear processes.

Infrared behavior of the Faddeev-Popov operator in Coulomb gauge QCD

We calculate the eigenvalue distribution of the Faddeev-Popov operator in Coulomb gauge QCD using quenched SU(3) lattice simulation. In the confinement phase, the density of the low-lying eigenvalues increases with lattice volume, and the confinement criterion is satisfied. Moreover, even in the deconfinement phase, the behavior of the FP eigenvalue density is qualitatively the same as in the confinement phase. This is consistent with the fact that the color-Coulomb potential is not screened in the deconfined phase.

Further considerations concerning claims for deeply bound kaon atoms and reply to criticisms

We briefly review the experiments of KEK and FINUDA, that claim evidence for deeply bound kaon states, from the perspective of recent theoretical papers and experiments that provide an alternative explanation of the peaks seen. At the same time we show that recent criticisms raised by Akaishi and Yamazaki, and exposed by Akaishi in this Conference, have no base.

Critical review of deeply bound kaonic nuclear states

We critically revise the recent claims of narrow deeply bound kaonic states and show that at present there is no convincing experimental evidence for their existence. In particular, we discuss in details the claim of K- pp deeply bound state associated to a peak seen in the Lambda p invariant mass spectrum from K- nuclear absorption reactions by the FINUDA collaboration. An explicit theoretical simulation shows that the peak is simply generated from a two-nucleon absorption process, like K- pp --> Lambda p, followed by final-state interactions of the produced particles with the residual nucleus.

Infrared divergence of the color-Coulomb self-energy in Coulomb gauge QCD

We investigate the spectrum of the Faddeev-Popov operator in Coulomb gauge QCD using quenched SU(3) lattice simulation. In the confinement phase, we observe the accumulation of the near-zero modes of the FP operator at large lattice volumes, and the color-Coulomb self-energy diverges in the infrared limit. Moreover, even in the deconfinement phase, the behavior of the FP eigenvalue density is qualitatively the same as in the confinement phase and the color-Coulomb self-energy is infrared divergent.

A critical view on the deeply bound K^- pp system

We briefly review the situation around the claimed deeply bound K^- states in different recent experiments and concentrate particularly on the state K^- pp advocated by the FINUDA collaboration in nuclear K^- absorption. We perform a theoretical simulation of the process and show that the peak in the Lambda p spectrum that was interpreted as a deep K^- pp bound state corresponds mostly to the process K^- p p --> Lambda p followed by final state interactions of the produced particles with the daughter nucleus.

A critical analysis on deeply bound kaonic states in nuclei and the KEK experiment

We critically discuss the theoretical developments that led to predictions of very deeply bound kaon states and then revise the data of the KEK experiment from where claims for evidence of deeply bound kaon atoms in nuclei were made. We conclude that the peaks seen in the experiment correspond to the absorption of kaons by a pair of nucleons leading to $Σp$ and $Λp$ and leaving the daughter nucleus as a spectator. These conclusions have been reconfirmed by a recent experiment at FINUDA.

Recent developments in chiral dynamics of hadrons and hadrons in a nuclear medium

In this talk I present recent developments in chiral dynamics of hadrons and hadrons in a medium addressing the following points: interaction of the octet of pseudoscalar mesons with the octet of baryons of the nucleon, showing recent experimental evidence on the existence of two $Λ(1405)$ states, the interaction of the octet of pseudoscalar mesons with the decuplet of baryons of the $Δ$, with particular emphasis on the $Λ(1520)$ resonance, dynamically generated by this interaction. Then I review the interaction of kaons in a nuclear medium and briefly discuss the situation around the claims of deeply bound states in nuclei. The large renormalization of the $Λ(1520)$ in the nuclear medium is shown as another example of successful application of the chiral unitary techniques.

Properties of Color-Coulomb String Tension

We study the properties of the color-Coulomb string tension obtained from the instantaneous part of gluon propagators in Coulomb gauge using quenched SU(3) lattice simulation. In the confinement phase, the dependence of the color-Coulomb string tension on the QCD coupling constant is smaller than that of the Wilson loop string tension. On the other hand, in the deconfinement phase, the color-Coulomb string tension does not vanish even for $T/T_c = 1 \sim 5$, the temperature dependence of which is comparable with the magnetic scaling, dominating the high temperature QCD. Thus, the color-Coulomb string tension is not an order parameter of QGP phase transition.

Spurious Shell Closures in the Relativistic Mean Field Model

Following a systematic theoretical study of the ground-state properties of over 7000 nuclei from the proton drip line to the neutron drip line in the relativistic mean field model [Prog. Theor. Phys. 113 (2005) 785], which is in fair agreement with existing experimental data, we observe a few spurious shell closures, i.e. proton shell closures at Z=58 and Z=92. These spurious shell closures are found to persist in all the effective forces of the relativistic mean field model, e.g. TMA, NL3, PKDD and DD-ME2.

Double-$Λ$ hypernuclei in the relativistic mean-field theory

We study the properties of double-$Λ$ hypernuclei in the relativistic mean-field theory, which has been successfully used for the description of stable and unstable nuclei. With the meson-hyperon couplings determined by the experimental binding energies of single-$Λ$ hypernuclei, we present a self-consistent calculation of double-$Λ$ hypernuclei in the relativistic mean-field theory, and discuss the influence of hyperons on the nuclear core. The contribution of two mesons with dominant strange quark components (scalar $σ^*$ and vector $ϕ$) to the $ΛΛ$ binding energy of double-$Λ$ hypernuclei is examined.

The stability and the shape of the heaviest nuclei

In this paper, we report a systematic study of the heaviest nuclei within the relativistic mean field (RMF) model. By comparing our results with those of the Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov method (HFB) and the finite range droplet model (FRDM), the stability and the shape of the heaviest nuclei are discussed. The theoretical predictions as well as the existing experimental data indicate that the experimentally synthesized superheavy nuclei are in between the fission stability line, the line connecting the nucleus with maximum binding energy per nucleon in each isotopic chain, and the $β$-stability line, the line connecting the nucleus with maximum binding energy per nucleon in each isobaric chain. It is shown that both the fission stability line and the $β$-stability line tend to be more proton rich in the superheavy region. Meanwhile, all the three theoretical models predict most synthesized superheavy nuclei to be deformed.

Collective excitations and energy-weighted sum rules in relativistic random phase approximation with vacuum polarization

The isoscalar and isovector collective multipole excitations in stable nuclei are studied in the framework of relativistic random-phase approximation with the vacuum polarization arising from the nucleon-antinucleon field. A fully self-consistent calculation which guarantees the decoupling of the spurious state and the conservation of the multipole-transition current is carried out by using the derivative-expansion method for the description of the vacuum contribution. A remarkable effect of the inclusion of the vacuum polarization is the increase of the effective mass, $m^*/m_N \sim 0.8$; for all multipole modes, the energy-weighted sum rule values with the vacuum polarization are smaller than those of the relativistic model without the vacuum polarization, which typically has the effective mass $m^*/m_N \sim 0.6$. Also, the present model can give an excellent agreement with experimental data on the excitation energy, in particular, for the isoscalar quadrupole resonances in which it was previously reported that the calculated energies in the relativistic model are about 1-2 MeV above the experimental values. It is shown, further, that the change of the shell structure due to the inclusion of the vacuum polarization plays an important role in the improvement of the discrepancies seen in the dipole compression modes. On the other hand, the isoscalar monopole resonance has a similar peak whether or not the vacuum polarization is taken into account, if the compression modulus is kept the same in the analysis.
