Design and frequency analysis of continuous finite-time-convergent differentiator

In this paper, a continuous finite-time-convergent differentiator is presented based on a strong Lyapunov function. The continuous differentiator can reduce chattering phenomenon sufficiently than normal sliding mode differentiator, and the outputs of signal tracking and derivative estimation are all smooth. Frequency analysis is applied to compare the continuous differentiator with sliding mode differentiator. The beauties of the continuous finite-time-convergent differentiator include its simplicity, restraining noises sufficiently, and avoiding the chattering phenomenon.

Design and analysis of continuous hybrid differentiator

In this paper, a continuous hybrid differentiator is presented based on a strong Lyapunov function. The differentiator design can not only reduce sufficiently chattering phenomenon of derivative estimation by introducing a perturbation parameter, but also the dynamical performances are improved by adding linear correction terms to the nonlinear ones. Moreover, strong robustness ability is obtained by integrating sliding mode items and the linear filter. Frequency analysis is applied to compare the hybrid continuous differentiator with sliding mode differentiator. The merits of the continuous hybrid differentiator include the excellent dynamical performances, restraining noises sufficiently, and avoiding the chattering phenomenon.

Two-step differentiator for delayed signal

This paper presents a high-order differentiator for delayed measurement signal. The proposed differentiator not only can correct the delay in signal, but aslo can estimate the undelayed derivatives. The differentiator consists of two-step algorithms with the delayed time instant. Conditions are given ensuring convergence of the estimation error for the given delay in the signals. The merits of method include its simple implementation and interesting application. Numerical simulations illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed differentiator.

Nonplanar Integrability

In this article we study operators with a dimension $Δ\sim O(N)$ and show that simple analytic expressions for the action of the dilatation operator can be found. The operators we consider are restricted Schur polynomials. There are two distinct classes of operators that we consider: operators labeled by Young diagrams with two long columns or two long rows. The main complication in working with restricted Schur polynomials is in building a projector from a given $S_{n+m}$ irreducible representation to an $S_n\times S_m$ irreducible representation (both specified by the labels of the restricted Schur polynomial). We give an explicit construction of these projectors by reducing it to the simple problem of addition of angular momentum in ordinary non-relativistic quantum mechanics. The diagonalizationof the dilatation operator reduces to solving three term recursion relations. The fact that the recursion relations have only three terms is a direct consequence of the weak mixing at one loop of the restricted Schur polynomials. The recursion relations can be solved exactly in terms of symmetric Kravchuk polynomials or in terms of Clebsch-Gordan coefficients. This proves that the dilatation operator reduces to a decoupled set of harmonic oscillators and therefore it is integrable.

Computation for Supremal Simulation-Based Controllable and Strong Observable Subautomata

Bisimulation relation has been successfully applied to computer science and control theory. In our previous work, simulation-based controllability and simulation-based observability are proposed, under which the existence of bisimilarity supervisor is guaranteed. However, a given specification automaton may not satisfy these conditions, and a natural question is how to compute a maximum permissive subspecification. This paper aims to answer this question and investigate the computation of the supremal simulation-based controllable and strong observable subautomata with respect to given specifications by the lattice theory. In order to achieve the supremal solution, three monotone operators, namely simulation operator, controllable operator and strong observable operator, are proposed upon the established complete lattice. Then, inequalities based on these operators are formulated, whose solution is the simulation-based controllable and strong observable set. In particular, a sufficient condition is presented to guarantee the existence of the supremal simulation-based controllable and strong observable subautomata. Furthermore, an algorithm is proposed to compute such subautomata.

Synchronized Task Decomposition for Cooperative Multi-agent Systems

It is an amazing fact that remarkably complex behaviors could emerge from a large collection of very rudimentary dynamical agents through very simple local interactions. However, it still remains elusive on how to design these local interactions among agents so as to achieve certain desired collective behaviors. This paper aims to tackle this challenge and proposes a divide-and-conquer approach to guarantee specified global behaviors through local coordination and control design for multi-agent systems. The basic idea is to decompose the requested global specification into subtasks for each individual agent. It should be noted that the decomposition is not arbitrary. The global specification should be decomposed in such a way that the fulfilment of these subtasks by each individual agent will imply the satisfaction of the global specification as a team. First, it is shown by a counterexample that not all specifications can be decomposed in this sense. Then, a natural follow-up question is what the necessary and sufficient condition should be for the proposed decomposability of a global specification. The main part of the paper is set to answer this question. The case of two cooperative agents is investigated first, and a necessary and sufficient condition is presented and proven. Later on, the result is generalized to the case of arbitrary finite number of agents, and a hierarchical algorithm is proposed, which is shown to be a sufficient condition. Finally, a cooperative control scenario for a team of three robots is developed to illustrate the task decomposition procedure.

Studies on 1/4 BPS and 1/8 BPS geometries

We analyze more explicitly four sectors of 1/4 BPS geometries and 1/8 BPS geometries, corresponding to BPS states in N=4 SYM, constructed previously. These include the states with several SO(6) angular momenta as well as those with SO(4) AdS spins. We also discuss their relations to the dual gauge theory.

How to strictly calculate self-consistent fields of realistic plasma particles

Because currently the most popular method of calculating plasma self-consistent fields is an incomplete method which, strictly speaking, is not suitable to scientific investigation, we develop this method into be a complete reliable basic tool for scientific investigation. Here, the text after the pargraph around Eq.(7) have two different presentations, the presentation given latter is more concise and straightforward. PACS: 52.65.-y, 52.35.-g.

M2-M5 Systems in N=6 Chern-Simons Theory

We study two aspects of M5-branes in N=6 U(N)xU(N) Chern-Simons gauge theory. We first examine multiple M2-branes ending on a M5-brane. We study Basu-Harvey type cubic equations, fuzzy funnel configurations, and derive the M5-brane tension from the N=6 theory. We also find a limit in which the above M2-M5 system reduces to a D2-D4 system and we recover the Nahm equation from the N=6 theory. We then examine domain wall configurations in mass-deformed N=6 theory with a manifest SU(2)xSU(2)xU(1) global symmetry. We derive tensions of domain walls connecting between arbitrary M5-brane vacua of the deformed theory and observe their consistency with gravity dual expectations.

Kac-Moody Extensions of 3-Algebras and M2-branes

We study the 3-algebraic structure involved in the recently shown M2-branes worldvolume gauge theories. We first extend an arbitrary finite dimensional 3-algebra into an infinite dimensional 3-algebra by adding a mode number to each generator. A unique central charge in the algebra of gauge transformations appears naturally in this extension. We present an infinite dimensional extended 3-algebra with a general metric and also a different extension with a Lorentzian metric. We then study ordinary finite dimensional 3-algebras with different signatures of the metric, focusing on the cases with a negative eigenvalue and the cases with a zero eigenvalue. In the latter cases we present a new algebra, whose corresponding theory is a decoupled abelian gauge theory together with a free theory with global gauge symmetry, and there is no negative kinetic term from this algebra.

Bubbling AdS and droplet descriptions of BPS geometries in IIB supergravity

This paper focuses on supergravity duals of BPS states in N=4 super Yang-Mills. In order to describe these duals, we begin with a sequence of breathing mode reductions of IIB supergravity: first on S^3, then S^3 x S^1, and finally on S^3 x S^1 x CP^1. We then follow with a complete supersymmetry analysis, yielding 1/8, 1/4 and 1/2 BPS configurations, respectively (where in the last step we take the Hopf fibration of S^3). The 1/8 BPS geometries, which have an S^3 isometry and are time-fibered over a six-dimensional base, are determined by solving a non-linear equation for the Kahler metric on the base. Similarly, the 1/4 BPS configurations have an S^3 x S^1 isometry and a four-dimensional base, whose Kahler metric obeys another non-linear, Monge-Ampere type equation. Despite the non-linearity of the problem, we develop a universal bubbling AdS description of these geometries by focusing on the boundary conditions which ensure their regularity. In the 1/8 BPS case, we find that the S^3 cycle shrinks to zero size on a five-dimensional locus inside the six-dimensional base. Enforcing regularity of the full solution requires that the interior of a smooth, generally disconnected five-dimensional surface be removed from the base. The AdS_5 x S^5 ground state corresponds to excising the interior of an S^5, while the 1/8 BPS excitations correspond to deformations (including topology change) of the S^5 and/or the excision of additional droplets from the base. In the case of 1/4 BPS configurations, by enforcing regularity conditions, we identify three-dimensional surfaces inside the four-dimensional base which separate the regions where the S^3 shrinks to zero size from those where the S^1 shrinks.

Instantons, supersymmetric vacua, and emergent geometries

We study instanton solutions and superpotentials for the large number of vacua of the plane-wave matrix model and a 2+1 dimensional Super Yang-Mills theory on $R\times S^2$ with sixteen supercharges. We get the superpotential in the weak coupling limit from the gauge theory description. We study the gravity description of these instantons. Perturbatively with respect to a background, they are Euclidean branes wrapping cycles in the dual gravity background. Moreover, the superpotential can be given by the energy of the electric charge system characterizing each vacuum. These charges are interpreted as the eigenvalues of matrices from a reduction for the 1/8 BPS sector of the gauge theories. We also discuss qualitatively the emergence of the extra spatial dimensions appeared on the gravity side.

Fivebranes from gauge theory

We study theories with sixteen supercharges and a discrete energy spectrum. One class of theories has symmetry group $SU(2|4)$. They arise as truncations of ${\cal N}=4$ super Yang Mills. They include the plane wave matrix model, 2+1 super Yang Mills on $R \times S^2$ and ${\cal N}=4$ super Yang Mills on $R \times S^3/Z_k$. We explain how to obtain their gravity duals in a unified way. We explore the regions of the geometry that are relevant for the study of some 1/2 BPS and near BPS states. This leads to a class of two dimensional (4,4) supersymmetric sigma models with non-zero $H$ flux, including a massive deformed WZW model. We show how to match some features of the string spectrum with the Yang Mills theory. The other class of theories are also connected to ${\cal N}=4$ super Yang Mills and arise by making some of the transverse scalars compact. Their vacua are characterized by a 2d Yang Mills theory or 3d Chern Simons theory. These theories realize peculiar superpoincare symmetry algebras in 2+1 or 1+1 dimensions with "non-central" charges. We finally discuss gravity duals of ${\cal N}=4$ super Yang Mills on $AdS_3 \times S^1$.

Local Average and Scaling Property of $1/f^α$ Random Fields

We use the techniques developed in [1] to study the local average of random fields with spectral density $1/f^α$. We study their scaling properties and show that the self-similarity of $1/f$ random fields is preserved under the local average. We study how the original random fields can be recovered from the locally averaged ones. We also study the derivative of the locally averaged random fields as a way to get the spectral density. Finally, we propose the generalization of local average by means of an arbitrary response function.

The Supergravity Dual of the BMN Matrix Model

We propose type IIA supergravity solutions dual to the 1/2 BPS vacua of the BMN matrix model. These dual solutions are analyzed using the Polchinski-Strassler method and have brane configurations of concentric shells of D2 branes (or NS5 branes) with various radii and D0 charge. These branes can be viewed as polarized from $N$ D0 branes by a transverse R-R magnetic 6-form flux and an NS-NS 3-form flux. In the region far from branes, the solutions reduce to perturbation around the near horizon geometry of $N$ D0 branes, by turning on these R-R and NS-NS fluxes, which are dual to the deformation of the BFSS matrix model by adding mass terms and the Myers term. The solutions with these additional fluxes preserve 16 supersymmetries. We also briefly discuss these fluxes in the possible supergravity duals of M(atrix) theories on less supersymmetric plane-waves.

Bubbling AdS space and 1/2 BPS geometries

We consider all 1/2 BPS excitations of $AdS \times S$ configurations in both type IIB string theory and M-theory. In the dual field theories these excitations are described by free fermions. Configurations which are dual to arbitrary droplets of free fermions in phase space correspond to smooth geometries with no horizons. In fact, the ten dimensional geometry contains a special two dimensional plane which can be identified with the phase space of the free fermion system. The topology of the resulting geometries depends only on the topology of the collection of droplets on this plane. These solutions also give a very explicit realization of the geometric transitions between branes and fluxes. We also describe all 1/2 BPS excitations of plane wave geometries. The problem of finding the explicit geometries is reduced to solving a Laplace (or Toda) equation with simple boundary conditions. We present a large class of explicit solutions. In addition, we are led to a rather general class of $AdS_5$ compactifications of M-theory preserving ${\cal N} =2$ superconformal symmetry. We also find smooth geometries that correspond to various vacua of the maximally supersymmetric mass-deformed M2 brane theory. Finally, we present a smooth 1/2 BPS solution of seven dimensional gauged supergravity corresponding to a condensate of one of the charged scalars.

Multiple-Scale Analysis and Renormalization of Quenched Second Order Phase Transitions

A quenched second order phase transition is modeled by an effective $Φ^4$-theory with a time-dependent Hamiltonian $\hat{H} (t)$, whose symmetry is broken spontaneously in time. The quantum field evolves out of equilibrium (nonequilibrium) during the phase transition as the density operator significantly deviates from $\hatρ (t) = e^{- β\hat{H} (t)}/Z_H$. The recently developed Liouville-von Neumann (LvN) method provides various quantum states for the phase transition in terms of a complex solution to the mean-field equation, which is equivalent to the Gaussian effective potential in the static case and to the time-dependent Hartree-Fock equation in the nonequilibrium case. Using the multiple scale perturbation theory (MSPT) we solve analytically the mean-field equation to the first order of coupling constant and find the quantum states during the quenched second order phase transition. We propose a renormalization scheme during the process of phase transition to regularize the divergences, which originate from the mode coupling between hard and hard modes or between the soft and hard modes. The effect of mode coupling is discussed.

A Statistical Treatment to the Evolution Equation for Quark Distributions

The evolution of polarized quark distribution functions is taken into account the gluon emission and absorption, quark pair production and annihilation processes and treated by a statistical method which provides quark distribution functions at small $Q^2$. The evolution function of quark distributions is derived and solved by numerical methods. Then the $Q^2$ dependent and $α_{s}$ dependent structure functions $F_{2}(x, Q^{2})$ are obtained and the example of it, the proton structure function, is calculated, whose increase and decrease tendency with $α_{s}$ at different $x$ is consistent with experiments. This is also an evidence that the statistical methods for the nucleon is reasonable.
