Measurement-induced generation of Schr\"{o}dinger cat states in cavity QED

Schr\"{o}dinger cat states, representing coherent superpositions of macroscopically distinguishable states, are indispensable nonclassical resources for continuous-variable quantum information processing. Existing generation protocols typically rely on strong nonlinear interactions, complicated control techniques, or engineered dissipation, posing challenges for experimental implementation. Here, we propose a simple measurement-based protocol for generating Schr\"{o}dinger cat states in a cavity-QED system by combining coherent driving, dispersive atom--cavity interactions, and atomic postselection. The atom--cavity interaction establishes coherent correlations between the atomic and photonic degrees of freedom, while the subsequent atomic postselection projects the cavity field onto a non-Gaussian superposition state with pronounced Wigner negativity. Numerical simulations based on the Lindblad master equation show that the generated Schr\"{o}dinger cat states remain robust against moderate cavity dissipation. Our results demonstrate that conditional atomic measurements provide an effective and experimentally accessible approach for preparing nonclassical cavity states without relying on strong optical nonlinearities or engineered dissipation.

Bound state in the continuum and multiple atom state transfer applications in a waveguide QED setup

Bound states in the continuum (BICs) have been extensively exploited to enhance light--matter interactions in metamaterials, yet their emergence and utility in multi-atom waveguide platforms remain far less explored. Here we study atom--waveguide-dressed BICs in a one-dimensional coupled-resonator waveguide, where two spatially separated atomic arrays couple to distinct resonators with time-dependent strengths. We show that these BICs support a standing-wave photonic mode and enable the transfer of an arbitrary unknown quantum state between the two arrays with fidelities exceeding $99\%$. The protocol remains robust against both disorder and intrinsic dissipation. Our results establish BICs as long-lived resources for high-fidelity quantum information processing in waveguide-QED architectures.

Deterministic Single-Photon Adder and Subtractor

Single-photon addition and subtraction are fundamental operations in quantum information processing. Traditionally, the behavior of a single-photon adder (SPA) and single-photon subtractor (SPS) has been theoretically described using creation and annihilation operators, respectively. However, we demonstrate that this ladder-operator-based description contains significant theoretical flaws. To address these issues, we develop a theoretical framework based on Kraus operators, applicable to both coherent and incoherent SPAs and SPSs. Furthermore, we propose a method for realizing deterministic SPAs and SPSs of a cavity mode using three-level atoms. We analyze the effects of these operations on various quantum states. Additionally, we demonstrate that the use of a control pulse could enhance the performance of SPAs and SPSs, effectively preserving the quantum coherence of the resulting photon state.

Symmetry restoration and quantumness reestablishment

A realistic quantum many-body system, characterized by a generic microscopic Hamiltonian, is accessible only through approximation methods. The mean field theories, as the simplest practices of approximation methods, commonly serve as a powerful tool, but unfortunately often violate the symmetry of the Hamiltonian. The conventional BCS theory, as an excellent mean field approach, violates the particle number conservation and completely erases quantumness characterized by concurrence and quantum discord between different modes. We restore the symmetry by using the projected BCS theory and the exact numerical solution and find that the lost quantumness is synchronously reestablished. We show that while entanglement remains unchanged with the particle numbers, quantum discord behaves as an extensive quantity with respect to the system size. Surprisingly, discord is hardly dependent on the interaction strengths. The new feature of discord offers promising applications in modern quantum technologies.
