Non-relativistic limit analysis of the Chandrasekhar-Thorne relativistic Euler equations with physical vacuum

Our results provide a first step to make rigorous the formal analysis in terms of $\frac{1}{c^2}$ proposed by Chandrasekhar \cite{Chandra65b}, \cite{Chandra65a}, motivated by the methods of Einstein, Infeld and Hoffmann, see Thorne \cite{Thorne1}. We consider the non-relativistic limit for the local smooth solutions to the free boundary value problem of the cylindrically symmetric relativistic Euler equations, when the mass energy density includes the vacuum states at the free boundary. For large enough (rescaled) speed of light $c$ and suitably small time $T,$ we obtain uniform, with respect to $c,$ \lq\lq a priori\rq\rq estimates for the local smooth solutions. Moreover, the smooth solutions of the cylindrically symmetric relativistic Euler equations converge to the solutions of the classical compressible Euler equation, at the rate of order $\frac{1}{c^2}$.

Free boundary value problem to 3D spherically symmetric compressible Navier-Stokes-Poisson equations

In the paper, we consider the free boundary value problem to 3D spherically symmetric compressible isentropic Navier-Stokes-Poisson equations for self-gravitating gaseous stars with $γ$-law pressure density function for $6/5 <γ\leq 4/3$. For stress free boundary condition and zero flow density continuously across the free boundary, the global existence of spherically symmetric weak solutions is shown, and the regularity and long time behavior of global solution are investigated for spherically symmetric initial data with the total mass smaller than a critical mass.

Spectrum analysis and optimal decay rates of the bipolar Vlasov-Poisson-Boltzmann equations

In the present paper, we consider the initial value problem for the bipolar Vlasov-Poisson-Boltzmann (bVPB) system and its corresponding modified Vlasov-Poisson-Boltzmann (mVPB). We give the spectrum analysis on the linearized bVPB and mVPB systems around their equilibrium state and show the optimal convergence rate of global solutions. It was showed that the electric field decays exponentially and the distribution function tends to the absolute Maxwellian at the optimal convergence rate $(1+t)^{-3/4}$ for the bVPB system, yet both the electric field and the distribution function converge to equilibrium state at the optimal rate $(1+t)^{-3/4}$ for the mVPB system.

Spectrum Structure and Behaviors of the Vlasov-Maxwell-Boltzmann Systems

The spectrum structures and behaviors of the Vlasov-Maxwell-Boltzmann (VMB) systems for both two species and one species are studied in this paper. The analysis shows the effect of the Lorentz force induced by the electro-magnetic field leads to some different structure of spectrum from the classical Boltzmann equation and the closely related Vlasov-Poisson-Boltzmann system. And the significant difference between the two-species VMB model and one-species VMB model are given. The structure in high frequency illustrates the hyperbolic structure of the Maxwell equation. Furthermore, the long time behaviors and the optimal convergence rates to the equilibrium of the Vlasov-Maxwell-Boltzmann systems for both two species and one species are established based on the spectrum analysis, and in particular the phenomena of the electric field dominating and magnetic field dominating are observed for the one-species Vlasov-Maxwell-Boltzmann system.

Well-posedness for a multi-dimensional viscous liquid-gas two-phase flow model

The Cauchy problem of a multi-dimensional ($d\geqslant 2$) compressible viscous liquid-gas two-phase flow model is concerned in this paper. We investigate the global existence and uniqueness of the strong solution for the initial data close to a stable equilibrium and the local in time existence and uniqueness of the solution with general initial data in the framework of Besov spaces. A continuation criterion is also obtained for the local solution.

Cauchy problem for viscous rotating shallow water equations

We consider the Cacuhy problem for a viscous compressible rotating shallow water system with a third-order surface-tension term involved, derived recently in the modelling of motions for shallow water with free surface in a rotating sub-domain. The global existence of the solution in the space of Besov type is shown for initial data close to a constant equilibrium state away from the vacuum. Unlike the previous analysis about the compressible fluid model without coriolis forces, the rotating effect causes a coupling between two parts of Hodge's decomposition of the velocity vector field, additional regularity is required in order to carry out the Friedrichs' regularization and compactness arguments.

Vanishing of vacuum states and blow-up phenomena of the compressible Navier-Stokes equations

The Navier-Stokes systems for compressible fluids with density-dependent viscosities are considered in the present paper. These equations, in particular, include the ones which are rigorously derived recently as the Saint-Venant system for the motion of shallow water, from the Navier-Stokes system for incompressible flows with a moving free surface [14]. These compressible systems are degenerate when vacuum state appears. We study initial-boundary-value problems for such systems for both bounded spatial domains or periodic domains. The dynamics of weak solutions and vacuum states are investigated rigorously. First, it is proved that the entropy weak solutions for general large initial data satisfying finite initial entropy exist globally in time. Next, for more regular initial data, there is a global entropy weak solution which is unique and regular with well-defined velocity field for short time, and the interface of initial vacuum propagates along particle path during this time period. Then, it is shown that for any global entropy weak solution, any (possibly existing) vacuum state must vanish within finite time. The velocity (even if regular enough and well-defined) blows up in finite time as the vacuum states vanish. Furthermore, after the vanishing of vacuum states, the global entropy weak solution becomes a strong solution and tends to the non-vacuum equilibrium state exponentially in time.

Optimal decay rate of the compressible Navier-Stokes-Poisson system in R^3

The compressible Navier-Stokes-Poisson (NSP) system is considered in $R^3$ in the present paper and the influences of the electric field of the internal electrostatic potential force governed by the self-consistent Poisson equation on the qualitative behaviors of solutions is analyzed. It is observed that the rotating effect of electric field affects the dispersion of fluids and reduces the time decay rate of solutions. Indeed, we show that the density of the NSP system converges to its equilibrium state at the same $L^2$-rate $(1+t)^{-\frac34}$ or $L^\infty$-rate $(1+t)^{-3/2}$ respectively as the compressible Navier-Stokes system, but the momentum of the NSP system decays at the $L^2$-rate $(1+t)^{-\frac14}$ or $L^\infty$-rate $(1+t)^{-1}$ respectively, which is slower than the $L^2$-rate $(1+t)^{-\frac34}$ or $L^\infty$-rate $(1+t)^{-3/2}$ for the compressible Navier-Stokes system. These convergence rates are also shown to be optimal for the compressible NSP system.

Semiclassical and relaxation limits of bipolar quantum hydrodynamic model

The global in-time semiclassical and relaxation limits of the bipolar quantum hydrodynamic model for semiconductors are investigated in $R^3$. We prove that the unique strong solution converges globally in time to the strong solution of classical bipolar hydrodynamical equation in the process of semiclassical limit and to that of the classical Drift-Diffusion system under the combined relaxation and semiclassical limits.

Long-time self-similar asymptotic of the macroscopic quantum models

The unipolar and bipolar macroscopic quantum models derived recently for instance in the area of charge transport are considered in spatial one-dimensional whole space in the present paper. These models consist of nonlinear fourth-order parabolic equation for unipolar case or coupled nonlinear fourth-order parabolic system for bipolar case. We show for the first time the self-similarity property of the macroscopic quantum models in large time. Namely, we show that there exists a unique global strong solution with strictly positive density to the initial value problem of the macroscopic quantum models which tends to a self-similar wave (which is not the exact solution of the models) in large time at an algebraic time-decay rate.

Algebraic time-decay for the bipolar quantum hydrodynamic model

The initial value problem is considered in the present paper for bipolar quantum hydrodynamic model for semiconductors (QHD) in $\mathbb{R}^3$. We prove that the unique strong solution exists globally in time and tends to the asymptotical state with an algebraic rate as $t\to+\infty$. And, we show that the global solution of linearized bipolar QHD system decays in time at an algebraic decay rate from both above and below. This means in general, we can not get exponential time-decay rate for bipolar QHD system, which is different from the case of unipolar QHD model (where global solutions tend to the equilibrium state at an exponential time-decay rate) and is mainly caused by the nonlinear coupling and cancelation between two carriers. Moreover, it is also shown that the nonlinear dispersion does not affect the long time asymptotic behavior, which by product gives rise to the algebraic time-decay rate of the solution of the bipolar hydrodynamical model in the semiclassical limit.
