Three-body unitary determination of the $f_1(1285)$ and $f_1(1420)$ pole positions

We study the $I^G(J^{PC})=0^+(1^{++})$ $K\bar K\pi$ system in an infinite-volume three-body unitary framework, focusing on the pole content of the region of the $f_1(1285)$ and $f_1(1420)$ resonances. The coupled $\pi a_0$-$K\bar K^*$ amplitude is constructed in the spectator-isobar representation, where the one-particle-exchange interaction required by three-body unitarity automatically incorporates the triangle-singularity mechanism. The short-range three-body interaction is constrained by fitting the $0^+(1^{++})$ component of the BESIII $K^0_SK^0_S\pi^0$ invariant-mass distribution in the $J/\psi\to\gamma(K^0_SK^0_S\pi^0)$ decay. Analytically continuing the fitted amplitude to the relevant unphysical Riemann sheets, we find two robust poles: \begin{align} \sqrt{s_{f_1(1285)}}&= \left(1277\pm2\pm1\right) -i\left(12\pm1\pm0\right)\text{MeV}\,,\notag\\ \sqrt{s_{f_1(1420)}}&= \left(1435\pm2\pm7\right) -i\left(40\pm2\pm1\right)\text{MeV}\,.\notag \end{align} The pole trajectories indicate that the $f_1(1285)$ originates from dressing a bare state introduced in the potential. In contrast, the $f_1(1420)$ is predominantly dynamically generated, and a single-channel analysis traces it to an $S$-wave $K\bar K^*$ quasi-bound state mixed with the nearby bare state, supporting its hadronic-molecule interpretation. We also find an additional pole deeper in the complex plane in the best-fit amplitude on the same Riemann sheet as the $f_1(1285)$. This additional pole is generated by the $P$-wave $\pi a_0$ contact interaction alone. It has a sizable cutoff and two-body-input dependence, and leaves little visible imprint on the physical lineshape. Finally, we provide a detailed and pedagogical appendix on how three-body cuts affect the solution of the integral equation.

Threshold cusp effects to measure masses of radiatively decaying hadrons: The $B_{s0}^*$ mass from the $\Upsilon\phi$ spectrum

Hadrons that decay predominantly into final states containing photons are notoriously difficult to detect at hadron colliders. Prominent examples are the yet-unobserved $B_{s0}^*$ and $B_{s1}$, the bottom partners of the $D_{s0}^*(2317)$ and $D_{s1}(2460)$, which are expected to exhibit exotic properties deviating from the conventional quark-model predictions of $\bar b s$ mesons. We propose a general, model-independent method to overcome this problem: when the target hadron has an attractive $S$-wave interaction with a companion hadron of precisely known mass, the line shape of a suitable final state develops a cusp at the pair threshold, or a peak just below it if the attraction binds, so that subtracting the companion mass returns the target mass, up to the binding energy in the latter case. As a proof of concept, a leading-order particle-dimer calculation of the $D\bar D_s K$ three-body system reproduces the $X(4274)$ structure in the LHCb $J/\psi\phi$ distribution extracted from $B\to K J/\psi \phi$, as a $D_{s0}^*\bar D_s$ threshold cusp driven by a nearby virtual-state pole, yielding $m_{D_{s0}^*}=(2322\pm6)$ MeV in agreement with its measured value and favoring $J^{PC}=0^{-+}$ for the $X(4274)$. Transferring the elastic three-body interaction to the bottom sector, we predict an analogous structure at the $B_{s0}^*\bar B_s$ threshold near $11.09$ GeV, making the $\Upsilon\phi$ invariant-mass distribution at the LHC a clean probe of the $B_{s0}^*$ mass.

What can we learn from the radiative decays of the $D_{s1}(2460)$ meson?

We study the radiative decays $D_{s1}(2460)\to\gamma D^{*}_{s0}(2317)$ and $D_{s1}(2460)\to \gamma D^0K^+/\gamma D^+K^0$ and argue that their simultaneous experimental measurement, or at least a constraint on the ratio of the corresponding branching fractions, can allow one to probe the nature of the $D^{*}_{s0}(2317)$ and $D_{s1}(2460)$ mesons.

Exploring Efimov states in $D^*D^*D^*$ and $DD^*D^*$ three-body systems

The Efimov effect is an intriguing three-body quantum phenomenon. Searching for Efimov states within the realms of nuclear and hadronic physics presents a challenge due to the inherent inability of natural physical systems to exhibit adjustable two-body scattering lengths. In this study, we examine the potential existence of Efimov states in the $D^*D^*D^*$ and $DD^*D^*$ three-hadron systems. Utilizing a pionless effective field theory framework, we determine that the presence of Efimov states in the spectrum of the $D^*D^*D^*$ system is contingent upon the existence of an $(I,J)=(1,2)$ $D^*D^*$ two-body bound system. If only the $T_{cc}^+$ and its heavy quark spin partner $T_{cc}^{*+}$ exist while there is no near-threshold pole in all other $S$-wave $D^{(*)}D^*$ scattering amplitudes, no Efimov effect is expected in the $D^{(*)}D^*D^*$ systems.

Neutron Scattering off One-Neutron Halo Nuclei in Halo Effective Field Theory

Neutron scattering off neutron halos can provide important information about the internal structure of nuclei close to the neutron drip line. In this work, we use halo effective field theory to study the $s$-wave scattering of a neutron and the spin-parity $J^P=\frac{1}{2}^+$ one-neutron halo nuclei $^{11}\rm Be$, $^{15}\rm C$, and $^{19}\rm C$ at leading order. In the $J=1$ channel, the only inputs to the Faddeev equations are their one-neutron separation energies. In the $J=0$ channel, the neutron-neutron scattering length and the two-neutron separation energies of $\rm ^{12}Be$, $\rm ^{16}C$ and $\rm ^{20}C$ enter as well. The numerical results show that the total $s$-wave cross sections in the $J=1$ channel at threshold are of the order of a few barns. In the $J=0$ channel, these cross sections are of the order of a few barns for $n$-$^{11}\rm Be$ and $n$-$^{19}\rm C$ scattering, and about 60 $\rm mb$ for the $n$-$^{15}\rm C$ scattering. The appearance of a pole in $p\cot\delta$ close to zero in all three cases indicates the existence of a virtual Efimov state close to threshold in each of the $^{12}\rm Be$, $^{16}\rm C$, and $^{20}\rm C$ systems. Observation of this pole would confirm the presence of Efimov physics in halo nuclei. The dependence of the results on the neutron-core scattering length is also studied.

Update on strong and radiative decays of the $D_{s0}^{*}(2317)$ and $D_{s1}(2460)$ and their bottom cousins

The isospin breaking and radiative decay widths of the positive-parity charm-strange mesons, $D^{*}_{s0}$ and $D_{s1}$, and their predicted bottom-strange counterparts, $B^{*}_{s0}$ and $B_{s1}$, as hadronic molecules are revisited. This is necessary, since the $B^{*}_{s0}$ and $B_{s1}$ masses used in Eur. Phys. J. A 50 (2014) 149 were too small, in conflict with the heavy quark flavour symmetry. Furthermore, not all isospin breaking contributions were considered. We here present a method to restore heavy quark flavour symmetry, correcting the masses of $B^{*}_{s0}$ and $B_{s1}$, and include the complete isospin breaking contributions up to next-to-leading order. With this we provide updated hadronic decay widths for all of $D^{*}_{s0}$, $D_{s1}$, $B^{*}_{s0}$ and $B_{s1}$. Results for the partial widths of the radiative deays of $D_{s0}^*(2317)$ and $D_{s1}(2460)$ are also renewed in light of the much more precisely measured $D^{*+}$ width. We find that $B_s\pi^0$ and $B_s\gamma$ are the preferred channels for searching for $B_{s0}^*$ and $B_{s1}$, respectively.

Three-body universality in the B meson sector

The charged exotic mesons Z_b(10610) and Z'_b(10650) observed by the Belle collaboration in 2011 are very close to the B* Bbar and B* Bbar* thresholds, respectively. This suggests their interpretation as shallow hadronic molecules of B and B* mesons. Using the masses of the Z_b(10610) and Z'_b(10650) as input, we rule out the possibility for universal bound states of three B and B* mesons arising from the Efimov effect based on their spin-isospin structure. As a consequence, we can predict the phase shifts for the scattering of B and B* mesons off the exotic mesons Z_b(10610) and Z'_b(10650) to leading order in a non-relativistic effective field theory with contact interactions based on two-body information alone.

Observation of Quantum Griffiths Singularity and Ferromagnetism at Superconducting LaAlO3/SrTiO3(110) Interface

Diverse phenomena emerge at the interface between band insulators LaAlO3 and SrTiO3, such as superconductivity and ferromagnetism, showing an opportunity for potential applications as well as bringing fundamental research interests. Particularly, the two-dimensional electron gas formed at LaAlO3/SrTiO3 interface offers an appealing platform for quantum phase transition from a superconductor to a weakly localized metal. Here we report the superconductor-metal transition in superconducting two-dimensional electron gas formed at LaAlO3/SrTiO3(110) interface driven by a perpendicular magnetic field. Interestingly, when approaching the quantum critical point, the dynamic critical exponent is not a constant but a diverging value, which is a direct evidence of quantum Griffiths singularity raised from quenched disorder at ultralow temperatures. Furthermore, the hysteretic property of magnetoresistance was firstly observed at LaAlO3/SrTiO3(110) interfaces, which suggests potential coexistence of superconductivity and ferromagnetism.
