Twist-Tuned Magnonic Nanocavity Mode in a Trilayer Moir\'e Superlattice

The concept of moir\'e superlattices has recently been introduced into the field of magnonics, enabling unprecedented control over spin-wave propagation and confinement in nanoscale magnonic devices. In this work, we report a numerical investigation on the nanocavity in a trilayer magnetic moir\'e superlattice structure consisting of antidot lattices. By tuning the middle layer twist angle, high tunability of the magnonic band structure can be achieved with characteristic flat bands and the corresponding nanocavity mode formation in outer layers. At an optimal twist angle of 3 deg, excitation at the flat band frequency yields nanocavity mode with linewidth of 175 nm. In contrast to its bilayer counterpart, the trilayer magnonic moir\'e superlattice exhibits antiphase nanocavity modes in the outer layers while showing no nanocavity formation in the middle layer. Our study indicates that the switching and distribution of the nanocavity modes can be governed by tuning the middle layer twist angle with a strong magnon intensity confinement. The trilayer magnonic moir\'e structure holds a distinct advantage in tunability, which opens up new avenues for the design of future moir\'e magnonic devices.

Direct Observation of Antimagnons with Inverted Dispersion

We report direct spectroscopic evidence of antimagnons, i.e., negative-energy spin waves identified by their signature inverted dispersion and left-handed precession with Brillouin light scattering (BLS) spectroscopy. We investigate an ultrathin BiYIG film with a perpendicular magnetized anisotropy that compensates the demagnetizing field. By injecting a spin-orbit torque, the magnetization is driven into auto-oscillation and eventually into a non-equilibrium reversed state above a secondary current threshold ($\sim$1.2$\times$10$^7$~A/cm$^2$). The dispersion is measured by wavevector-resolved BLS and exhibits a sharp change from an upward dispersion to a downward one, in agreement with theoretical predictions and micromagnetic simulations. Around the threshold current, we observe the coexistence of conventional magnons and antimagnons. Our work establishes antimagnons with inverted dispersion and is a first step towards exploring novel phenomena and applications due to magnon-antimagnon coupling, such as magnon amplification and magnon-antimagnon entanglement, which are part of the emerging field of antimagnonics.

There is No VAE: End-to-End Pixel-Space Generative Modeling via Self-Supervised Pre-training

Pixel-space generative models are often more difficult to train and generally underperform compared to their latent-space counterparts, leaving a persistent performance and efficiency gap. In this paper, we introduce a novel two-stage training framework that closes this gap for pixel-space diffusion and consistency models. In the first stage, we pre-train encoders to capture meaningful semantics from clean images while aligning them with points along the same deterministic sampling trajectory, which evolves points from the prior to the data distribution. In the second stage, we integrate the encoder with a randomly initialized decoder and fine-tune the complete model end-to-end for both diffusion and consistency models. Our framework achieves state-of-the-art (SOTA) performance on ImageNet. Specifically, our diffusion model reaches an FID of 1.58 on ImageNet-256 and 2.35 on ImageNet-512 with 75 number of function evaluations (NFE) surpassing prior pixel-space methods and VAE-based counterparts by a large margin in both generation quality and training efficiency. In a direct comparison, our model significantly outperforms DiT while using only around 30\% of its training compute. Furthermore, our consistency model achieves an impressive FID of 8.82 on ImageNet-256, significantly outperforming its latent-space counterparts. This marks the first successful training of a consistency model directly on high-resolution images without relying on pre-trained VAEs or diffusion models. Topological surface magnon-polariton in an insulating canted antiferromagnet

Excitation and control of antiferromagnetic magnon modes lie at the heart of coherent antiferromagnetic spintronics. Here, we propose a topological surface magnon-polariton as a new approach in the prototypical magnonic material hematite. We show that in an insulating canted antiferromagnet, where strong-coupled magnon-photon modes can be achieved using electrical on-chip layouts, a surface magnon-polariton mode exists in the gap of the bulk magnon-photon bands. The emergence of surface magnon-polariton mode is further attributed to the nontrivial topology of bulk magnon-photon bands. Magnon-photon coupling enhances the Berry curvature near the anticrossing points, leading to a topological bulk Chern band associated with the surface magnon-polaritons. Our work provides a general principle for the utilization of optomagnetic properties in antiferromagnets, with an illustration of its experimental feasibility and wide generality as manifested in hematite.

Observation and Control of Chiral Spin Frustration in BiYIG Thin Films

Chiral interactions within magnetic layers stabilize the formation of noncollinear spin textures, which can be leveraged to design devices with tailored magnetization dynamics. Here, we introduce chiral spin frustration in which energetically degenerate magnetic states frustrate the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction. We demonstrate magnon-driven switching of the chirally frustrated spin states in Bi-substituted yttrium iron garnet thin films. These states are defined by an in-plane macrospin neighboring two out-ofplane spins on either side with opposing chirality. Using scanning nitrogen-vacancy magnetometry and spin pumping, we identified four degenerate frustrated states and achieved their controllable switching via magnon spin torque. Crucially, the switching is unidirectional, with selectivity determined by the incoming magnon direction. This mechanism provides a powerful approach to manipulate frustrated spin states with magnons. Chiral spin frustration unlocks the geometry constraints of conventional frustration, and therefore opens new horizons for frustrated magnetism, paving the way for energy-efficient spintronic devices based on frustratio

Controlling spin currents with magnon interference in a canted antiferromagnet

Controlling spin current lies at the heart of spintronics and its applications. The sign of spin currents is monotonous in ferromagnets once the current direction is determined. Spin currents in antiferromagnets can possess opposite polarization, but requires enormous magnetic fields to lift the degeneracy. Controlling spin currents with different polarization is urgently demanded but remains hitherto elusive. Here, we demonstrate the control of spin currents at room temperature by magnon interference in a canted antiferromagnet, hematite recently also classified as an altermagnet. Magneto-optical characterization by Brillouin light scattering revealed that the spatial periodicity of the beating patterns was tunable via the microwave frequency. The inverse spin-Hall voltage changed sign as the frequency was scanned, i.e., a frequency-controlled switching of polarization in pure spin currents was obtained. Our work marks the use of antiferromagnetic magnon interference to control spin currents, which substantially extends the horizon for the emerging field of coherent antiferromagnetic spintronics.

Magnon confinement in a nanomagnonic waveguide by a magnetic Moir\'e superlattice

The study of moir\'e superlattices has revealed intriguing phenomena in electronic systems, including unconventional superconductivity and ferromagnetism observed in magic-angle bilayer graphene. This approach has recently been adapted to the field of magnonics. In this Letter, we investigate the confinement of spin waves in a nanomagnonic waveguide integrated on top of a magnetic moir\'e superlattice. Our numerical analysis reveals a magnonic flat-band at the centre of the Brillouin zone, created by a 3.5 degrees twist in the moir\'e superlattice. The flat-band, characterized by a high magnon density of states and a zero group velocity, allows for the confinement of magnons within the AB stacking region. The flat-band results from the mode anticrossing of several different magnon bands, covering a wavevector range of nearly 40 rad/{\mu}m and a 166 nm wide spatial distribution of the magnon trapping in the waveguide. Our results pave the way for nanomagnonic devices and circuits based on spin-wave trapping in magnon waveguides.

Broad-Wavevector Spin Pumping of Flat-Band Magnons

We report the experimental observation of large spin pumping signals in YIG/Pt system driven by broad-wavevector spin-wave spin current. 280 nm-wide microwave inductive antennas offer broad-wavevector excitation which, in combination with quasi-flatband of YIG, allows a large number of magnons to participate in spin pumping at a given frequency. Through comparison with ferromagnetic resonance spin pumping, we attribute the enhancement of the spin current to the multichromatic magnons. The high efficiency of spin current generation enables us to uncover nontrivial propagating properties in ultra-low power regions. Additionally, our study achieves the spatially separated detection of magnons, allowing the direct extraction of the decay length. The synergistic combination of the capability of broad-wavevector excitation, enhanced voltage signals, and nonlocal detection provides a new avenue for the electrical exploration of spin waves dynamics.

Observation of spin-wave moir\'e edge and cavity modes in twisted magnetic lattices

We report the experimental observation of the spin-wave moir\'e edge and cavity modes using Brillouin light scattering spectro-microscopy in a nanostructured magnetic moir\'e lattice consisting of two twisted triangle antidot lattices based on an yttrium iron garnet thin film. Spin-wave moir\'e edge modes are detected at an optimal twist angle and with a selective excitation frequency. At a given twist angle, the magnetic field acts as an additional degree of freedom for tuning the chiral behavior of the magnon edge modes. Micromagnetic simulations indicate that the edge modes emerge within the original magnonic band gap and at the intersection between a mini-flatband and a propagation magnon branch. Our theoretical estimate for the Berry curvature of the magnon-magnon coupling suggests a non-trivial topology for the chiral edge modes and confirms the key role played by the dipolar interaction. Our findings shed light on the topological nature of the magnon edge mode for emergent moir\'e magnonics.

Long-distance propagation of high-velocity antiferromagnetic spin waves

We report on coherent propagation of antiferromagnetic (AFM) spin waves over a long distance ($\sim$10 $\mu$m) at room temperature in a canted AFM $\alpha$-Fe$_2$O$_3$ with the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI). Unprecedented high group velocities (up to 22.5 km/s) are characterized by microwave transmission using all-electrical spin wave spectroscopy. We derive analytically AFM spin-wave dispersion in the presence of the DMI which accounts for our experimental results. The AFM spin waves excited by nanometric coplanar waveguides with large wavevectors enter the exchange regime and follow a quasi-linear dispersion relation. Fitting of experimental data with our theoretical model yields an AFM exchange stiffness length of 1.7 angstrom. Our results provide key insights on AFM spin dynamics and demonstrate high-speed functionality for AFM magnonics.

Nonlocal detection of interlayer three-magnon coupling

A leading nonlinear effect in magnonics is the interaction that splits a high-frequency magnon into two low-frequency ones with conserved linear momentum. Here, we report experimental observation of nonlocal three-magnon scattering between spatially separated magnetic systems, viz. a CoFeB nanowire and an yttrium iron garnet (YIG) thin film. Above a certain threshold power of an applied microwave field, a CoFeB Kittel magnon splits into a pair of counter-propagating YIG magnons that induce voltage signals in Pt electrodes on each side, in excellent agreement with model calculations based on the interlayer dipolar interaction. The excited YIG magnon pairs reside mainly in the first excited (n=1) perpdendicular standing spin-wave mode. With increasing power, the n=1 magnons successively scatter into nodeless (n=0) magnons through a four-magnon process. Our results help to assess non-local scattering processes in magnonic circuits that may enable quantum entanglement between distant magnons for quantum information applications.

Migrating Face Swap to Mobile Devices: A lightweight Framework and A Supervised Training Solution

Existing face swap methods rely heavily on large-scale networks for adequate capacity to generate visually plausible results, which inhibits its applications on resource-constraint platforms. In this work, we propose MobileFSGAN, a novel lightweight GAN for face swap that can run on mobile devices with much fewer parameters while achieving competitive performance. A lightweight encoder-decoder structure is designed especially for image synthesis tasks, which is only 10.2MB and can run on mobile devices at a real-time speed. To tackle the unstability of training such a small network, we construct the FSTriplets dataset utilizing facial attribute editing techniques. FSTriplets provides source-target-result training triplets, yielding pixel-level labels thus for the first time making the training process supervised. We also designed multi-scale gradient losses for efficient back-propagation, resulting in faster and better convergence. Experimental results show that our model reaches comparable performance towards state-of-the-art methods, while significantly reducing the number of network parameters. Codes and the dataset have been released.

Magnetic texture based magnonics

The spontaneous magnetic orders arising in ferro-, ferri- and antiferromagnets stem from various magnetic interactions. Depending on the interplay and competition among the Heisenberg exchange interaction, Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya exchange interaction, magnetic dipolar interaction and crystal anisotropies, a great variety of magnetic textures may be stabilized, such as magnetic domain walls, vortices, Skyrmions and spiral helical structures. While each of these spin textures responds to external forces in a specific manner with characteristic resonance frequencies, they also interact with magnons, the fundamental collective excitation of the magnetic order, which can propagate in magnetic materials free of charge transport and therefore with low energy dissipation. Recent theories and experiments found that the interplay between spin waves and magnetic textures is particularly interesting and rich in physics. In this review, we introduce and discuss the theoretical framework of magnons living on a magnetic texture background, as well as recent experimental progress in the manipulation of magnons via magnetic textures. The flexibility and reconfigurability of magnetic textures are discussed regarding the potential for applications in information processing schemes based on magnons.

Non-Hermitian coherent coupling of nanomagnets by exchange spin waves

Non-Hermitian physics has recently attracted much attention in optics and photonics. Less explored is non-Hermitian magnonics that provides opportunities to take advantage of the inevitable dissipation of magnons or spin waves in magnetic systems. Here we demonstrate non-Hermitian coherent coupling of two distant nanomagnets by fast spin waves with sub-50 nm wavelengths. Magnons in two nanomagnets are unidirectionally phase-locked with phase shifts controlled by magnon spin torque and spin-wave propagation. Our results are attractive for analog neuromorphic computing that requires unidirectional information transmission.

Spin wave based tunable switch between superconducting flux qubits

Quantum computing hardware has received world-wide attention and made considerable progress recently. YIG thin film have spin wave (magnon) modes with low dissipation and reliable control for quantum information processing. However, the coherent coupling between a quantum device and YIG thin film has yet been demonstrated. Here, we propose a scheme to achieve strong coupling between superconducting flux qubits and magnon modes in YIG thin film. Unlike the direct $\sqrt{N}$ enhancement factor in coupling to the Kittel mode or other spin ensembles, with N the total number of spins, an additional spatial dependent phase factor needs to be considered when the qubits are magnetically coupled with the magnon modes of finite wavelength. To avoid undesirable cancelation of coupling caused by the symmetrical boundary condition, a CoFeB thin layer is added to one side of the YIG thin film to break the symmetry. Our numerical simulation demonstrates avoided crossing and coherent transfer of quantum information between the flux qubits and the standing spin waves in YIG thin films. We show that the YIG thin film can be used as a tunable switch between two flux qubits, which have modified shape with small direct inductive coupling between them. Our results manifest that it is possible to couple flux qubits while suppressing undesirable cross-talk.

Asymmetric scattering behaviors of spin wave dependent on magnetic vortex chirality

In this letter, an asymmetric spin wave scattering behaviors caused by vortex chirality are investigated in cross-shaped ferromagnetic system. In the system, four scattering behaviors are found, 1) asymmetric skew scattering, depending on the polarity of vortex core, 2) back scattering (reflection), depending on the vortex core stiffness, 3) side deflection scattering, depending on structural symmetry of the vortex circulation, and 4) geometrical scattering, depending on waveguide structure. The first and second scattering behaviors are attributed to nonlinear topological magnon spin Hall effect related to magnon spin-transfer torque effect, which has value for magnonic exploration and application.

Magnon Trap by Chiral Spin Pumping

Chiral spin pumping is the generation of a unidirectional spin current in half of ferromagnetic films or conductors by dynamic dipolar stray fields from close-by nanomagnets. We formulate a general theory of long-range chiral interactions between magnets mediated by unidirectional traveling waves, e.g., spin waves in a magnetic film or microwaves in a waveguide. The traveling waves emitted by an excited magnet can be perfectly trapped by a second, initially passive, magnet by a dynamical interference effect. When both magnets are excited by a uniform microwave, the chiral interaction between them creates a large imbalance in their magnon numbers.

Unknown Identity Rejection Loss: Utilizing Unlabeled Data for Face Recognition

Face recognition has advanced considerably with the availability of large-scale labeled datasets. However, how to further improve the performance with the easily accessible unlabeled dataset remains a challenge. In this paper, we propose the novel Unknown Identity Rejection (UIR) loss to utilize the unlabeled data. We categorize identities in unconstrained environment into the known set and the unknown set. The former corresponds to the identities that appear in the labeled training dataset while the latter is its complementary set. Besides training the model to accurately classify the known identities, we also force the model to reject unknown identities provided by the unlabeled dataset via our proposed UIR loss. In order to 'reject' faces of unknown identities, centers of the known identities are forced to keep enough margin from centers of unknown identities which are assumed to be approximated by the features of their samples. By this means, the discriminativeness of the face representations can be enhanced. Experimental results demonstrate that our approach can provide obvious performance improvement by utilizing the unlabeled data.
