Global solvability for the heat equations in two half spaces and an interface

This paper considers the existence of a global-in-time strong solution to the heat equations in the two half spaces $\mathbb{R}^3_+(=\mathbb{R}^2 \times (0,\infty))$, $\mathbb{R}^3_-(= \mathbb{R}^2 \times (-\infty ,0))$, and the interface $\mathbb{R}^2 \times \{ 0 \} (\cong \mathbb{R}^2)$. We introduce and study some function spaces in the two half spaces and the interface. We apply our function spaces and the maximal $L^p$-regularity for Hilbert space-valued functions to show the existence of a local-in-time strong solution to our heat equations. By using an energy equality of our heat system, we prove the existence of a unique global-in-time strong solution to the system with large initial data. The key idea of constructing strong solutions to our system is to make use of nice properties of the heat semigroups and kernels for $\mathbb{R}^3_+$, $\mathbb{R}^3_{-}$, and $\mathbb{R}^2$. In Appendix, we derive our heat equations in the two half spaces and the interface from an energetic point of view.

Energetic variational approaches for multiphase flow systems with phase transition

We study the governing equations for the motion of the fluid particles near air-water interface from an energetic point of view. Since evaporation and condensation phenomena occur at the interface, we have to consider phase transition. This paper applies an energetic variational approach to derive multiphase flow systems with phase transition, where a multiphase flow means compressible and incompressible two-phase flow. We also research the conservation and energy laws of our system. The key ideas of deriving our systems are to acknowledge the existence of the interface and to apply an energetic variational approach. More precisely, we assume that both the coefficient of surface tension and the density of the interface are constants, and we apply an energetic variational approach to look for the dominant equations for the densities of our multiphase flow systems with phase transition. As applications, we can derive the usual Euler and Navier-Stokes systems, or a two-phase flow system with surface tension by our methods.

Energetic Variational Approaches for inviscid multiphase flow systems with surface flow and tension

We consider the governing equations for the motion of the inviscid fluids in two moving domains and an evolving surface from an energetic point of view. We employ our energetic variational approaches to derive inviscid multiphase flow systems with surface flow and tension. More precisely, we calculate the variation of the flow maps to the action integral for our model to derive both surface flow and tension. We also study the conservation and energy laws of our multiphase flow systems. The key idea of deriving the pressure of the compressible fluid on the surface is to make use of the feature of the barotropic fluid, and the key idea of deriving the pressure of the incompressible fluid on the surface is to apply a generalized Helmholtz-Weyl decomposition on a closed surface.

Error Analysis of Approximate Operators for a Particle Method based on Voronoi Diagram

This paper considers several approximate operators used in a particle method based on a Voronoi diagram. We introduce and study our approximate operators on gradient and Laplace operators. We derive error estimates for these approximate operators by applying our weight functions. The key idea of deriving our error estimates is to divide the integration region into a ring-shaped area and some areas. In the Appendix, we give an example application of the main results of this paper.

Thermodynamical Modeling of Multiphase Flow System with Surface Tension and Flow

We consider the governing equations for the motion of the viscous fluids in two moving domains and an evolving surface from both energetic and thermodynamic points of view. We make mathematical models for multiphase flow with surface flow by our energetic variational and thermodynamic approaches. More precisely, we apply our energy densities, the first law of thermodynamics, and the law of conservation of total energy to derive our multiphase flow system with surface tension and flow. We study the conservative forms and conservation laws of our system by using the surface transport theorem and integration by parts. Moreover, we investigate the enthalpy, the entropy, the Helmholtz free energy, and the Gibbs free energy of our model by applying the thermodynamic identity. The key idea of deriving surface tension and viscosities is to make use of both the first law of thermodynamics and our energy densities.

On Generalized Compressible Fluid Systems on an Evolving Surface with a Boundary

We consider compressible fluid flow on an evolving surface with a piecewise Lipschitz-continuous boundary from an energetic point of view. We employ both an energetic variational approach and the first law of thermodynamics to make a mathematical model for compressible fluid flow on the evolving surface. Moreover, we investigate the boundary conditions in co-normal direction for our fluid system to study the conservation and energy laws of the system.

On the Poisson Equation on a Surface with a boundary condition in co-normal direction

This paper considers the existence of weak and strong solutions to the Poisson equation on a surface with a boundary condition in co-normal direction. We apply the Lax-Milgram theorem and some properties of $H^1$-functions to show the existence of a unique weak solution to the surface Poisson equation when the exterior force belongs to $L_0^p$-space, where $H^1$- and $L_0^p$- functions are the ones whose value of the integral over the surface equal to zero. Moreover, we prove that the weak solution is a strong $L^p$-solution to the system. As an application, we study the solvability of ${\rm{div}_Γ} V = F$. The key idea of constructing a strong $L^p$-solution to the surface Poisson equation with a boundary condition in co-normal direction is to make use of solutions to the surface Poisson equation with a Dirichlet boundary condition.

Local and Global Solvability for Advection-Diffusion Equation on an Evolving Surface with a Boundary

This paper considers the existence of local and global-in-time strong solutions to the advection-diffusion equation with variable coefficients on an evolving surface with a boundary. We apply both the maximal $L^p$-in-time regularity for Hilbert space-valued functions and the semigroup theory to construct local and global-in-time strong solutions to an evolution equation. Using the approach and our function spaces on the evolving surface, we show the existence of local and global-in-time strong solutions to the advection-diffusion equation. Moreover, we derive the asymptotic stability of the global-in-time strong solution.

On Generalized Diffusion and Heat Systems on an Evolving Surface with a Boundary

We consider a diffusion process on an evolving surface with a piecewise Lipschitz-continuous boundary from an energetic point of view. We employ an energetic variational approach with both surface divergence and transport theorems to derive the generalized diffusion and heat systems on the evolving surface. Moreover, we investigate the boundary conditions for the two systems to study the conservation and energy laws of them. As an application, we make a mathematical model for a diffusion process on an evolving double bubble. Especially, this paper is devoted to deriving the representation formula for the unit outer co-normal vector to the boundary of a surface.

On Derivation of Compressible Fluid Systems on an Evolving Surface

We consider the governing equations for the motion of compressible fluid on an evolving surface from both energetic and thermodynamic points of view. We employ our energetic variational approaches to derive the momentum equation of our compressible fluid systems on the evolving surface. Applying the first law of thermodynamics and the Gibbs equation, we investigate the internal energy, enthalpy, entropy, and free energy of the fluid on the evolving surface. We also study conservative forms and conservation laws of our compressible fluid systems on the evolving surface. Moreover, we derive the generalized heat and diffusion systems on an evolving surface from an energetic point of view. This paper gives a mathematical validity of the surface stress tensor determined by the Boussinesq-Scriven law. Using a flow map on an evolving surface and applying the Riemannian metric induced by the flow map are key ideas to analyze fluid flow on the evolving surface.

Energetic variational approaches for non-Newtonian fluid systems

We consider the dominant equations for the motion of the non-Newtonian fluid in a domain from an energetic point of view. We apply our energetic variational approaches and the first law of thermodynamics to derive the generalized compressible non-Newtonian fluid system. We also derive the generalized incompressible non-Newtonian fluid system by using our energetic variational approaches.

On $L^{3,\infty}$-stability of the Navier-Stokes system in exterior domains

This paper studies the stability of a stationary solution of the Navier-Stokes system with a constant velocity at infinity in an exterior domain. More precisely, this paper considers the stability of the Navier-Stokes system governing the stationary solution which belongs to the weak $L^3$-space $L^{3,\infty}$. Under the condition that the initial datum belongs to a solenoidal $L^{3 , \infty}$-space, we prove that if both the $L^{3,\infty}$-norm of the initial datum and the $L^{3,\infty}$-norm of the stationary solution are sufficiently small then the system admits a unique global-in-time strong $L^{3,\infty}$-solution satisfying both $L^{3,\infty}$-asymptotic stability and $L^\infty$-asymptotic stability. Moreover, we investigate $L^{3,r}$-asymptotic stability of the global-in-time solution. Using $L^p$-$L^q$ type estimates for the Oseen semigroup and applying an equivalent norm on the Lorentz space are key ideas to establish both the existence of a unique global-in-time strong (or mild) solution of our system and the stability of our solution.
