Novel thermodynamic inequality for rotating AdS black holes

We propose a new thermodynamic inequality for stationary and asymptotically Anti-de Sitter rotating black holes, $ 4πJ^2/(3MV)<1 $. This inequality is derived by analyzing the roots of the identity relating the thermodynamic variables, ensuring the avoidance of naked singularities, and consequently preventing violations of the cosmic censorship conjecture. We examine the Kerr-AdS black hole as well as uncharged rotating AdS black strings, and find strong supporting evidence for the inequality across different horizon topologies. Using this inequality, we further demonstrate that the reverse isoperimetric inequality ($ {\cal R}\geq 1 $), remains unchanged, in the presence of rotation. Our investigations of a broad class of black hole solutions provide additional confirmation of the proposed inequality. Assuming that the reverse isoperimetric inequality in the presence of rotation continues to hold in higher dimensions, we conjecture the corresponding higher-dimensional generalization of the inequality.

Wormhole geometries in Einstein-aether theory

We present the first analysis of traversable wormhole solutions within the framework of Einstein-aether theory. We show that the corresponding field equations admit three distinct wormhole geometries, obtained by adopting three different classes of combinations for the aether coupling constants. We examine the null and weak energy conditions for three types of wormhole shape functions. Our findings reveal that, in contrast to Einstein gravity, by choosing appropriate parameter values, wormhole geometries can satisfy the energy conditions at the wormhole throat. We also find that in one class, wormholes can satisfy the energy conditions not only at the wormhole throat but also throughout the entire spacetime. Furthermore, the requirement of energy condition satisfaction, imposes some constraints on the values of aether coupling constants. By comparing these constraints with those previously obtained from theoretical and observational analyses, we find that the satisfaction of energy conditions put more stringent limits on the allowed values of the aether couplings.

Joule-Thomson expansion and heat engine efficiency of charged rotating black strings

We perform the first study of the throttling process and heat engine efficiency of asymptotically Anti-de Sitter charged and rotating black strings in the extended phase space. For the throttling process, we calculate the Joule-Thomson coefficient and inversion temperature. We also depict the inversion and isenthalpic curves in the temperature-pressure plane, thereby identifying the corresponding cooling and heating regions. For the black string heat engine, we obtain analytical expressions for the efficiency of the Carnot and rectangular engine cycles and draw their diagrams in terms of some relevant thermodynamics variables.

Thermodynamics of charged rotating black strings in extended phase space

We investigate the thermodynamics of asymptotically Anti-de Sitter charged and rotating black strings in extended phase space, in which the cosmological constant is interpreted as thermodynamic pressure and the thermodynamic volume is defined as its conjugate. We find the thermodynamic volume, the internal energy, and the Smarr law. We study the thermal stability and show that some of the solutions have positive specific heat, which makes them thermodynamically stable. We find, for the first time, there is a critical point for charged solutions which occurs at the point of divergence of specific heat at constant pressure. This supports the existence of a second-order phase transition analogous to the liquid-gas critical point in Van der Waals fluids. We also study the maximal efficiency of a Penrose process and find that an extremal rotating black string can have an efficiency of up to 50%. We also find the equation of state for uncharged solutions. By comparing with the liquid-gas system, we observe that there is not a critical behavior to coincide with those of the Van der Waals system.

Rotating black strings beyond Maxwell's electrodynamics

In this paper, we investigate the asymptotically Anti de Sitter solutions of rotating black strings coupled to Born-Infeld and Modified Maxwell non-linear electrodynamics in the context of Einsteinian, Einsteinian cubic and Einsteinian quartic gravity. By studying the near-horizon behavior of solutions, we find the mass parameter, surface gravity and accordingly the Hawking temperature. We also compute the entropy, mass, angular momentum, electric charge, and the electrostatic potential of solutions to show that, in the context of above theories and in the presence of two mentioned non-linear electrodynamics, the first law of thermodynamics for rotating black strings is also exactly hold. We also investigate extremality, thermal stability and phase transition of solutions.

Charged rotating black strings in Einsteinian quartic gravity

We find an analytic asymptotically anti-de Sitter solution for charged rotating black strings in Einsteinian quartic gravity. By studying the near-horizon behavior of the solutions, we independently extract their thermodynamic properties, analytically. As a consistency check, we show that the first law of thermodynamics for rotating black strings holds exactly in both charged and uncharged cases.

Higher dimensional charged static and rotating solutions in mimetic gravity

We find new solutions to the Einstein-Maxwell equations in the presence of mimetic field in $ D $ dimensions, all of which are asymptotically Antide Sitter. We derive the solutions in five-dimensional spacetime, in detail. By extending the calculations to six and seven dimensions, we obtain a general form for solutions in dimensions larger than four. The results describe electrically charged static and rotating solutions, which have spherical, toroidal or cylindrical horizons. The solutions, depending on their global identifications, can be regarded as black holes, or black strings/branes. Some physical properties of solutions such as horizons, singularities as well as entropy, mass, and angular momenta of rotating solutions are also investigated.

Charged rotating black strings in Einsteinian cubic gravity

We construct, for the first time, charged rotating black string solutions in four-dimensional Einsteinian cubic gravity, which are asymptotically anti de Sitter. By assuming that the solutions are completely regular at the horizon and studying their near-horizon behavior, we find some thermodynamic properties, which can be accessed analytically. We compute independently the Hawking temperature, the Wald entropy, the mass, the angular momentum, the charge, and the electrostatic potential of the solutions, analytically. Using these, we show that the first law of thermodynamics for rotating black strings is exactly satisfied in both charged and uncharged cases. We also observe that, in the absence of Maxwell field, some of the solutions have positive specific heat, which makes them thermodynamically stable.

Holographic complexity of Born-Infeld gravity

We investigate the duality conjecture "Complexity=Action" (CA) for Born-Infeld (BI) gravity model and derive the growth rate of its action within the Wheeler-DeWitt (WDW) patch, which is believed to be dual to the growth rate of quantum complexity of holographic boundary state. In order to find the correct on-shell action, we use direct variational procedure to find proper boundary and corner terms. We find out that the late-time behavior of holographic complexity is the well-known two times of energy, as expected.

On effective field theory of F-theory beyond leading order

We construct a proposal for effective bosonic field theory at order $ α'^3 $ in twelve dimensions, whose compactification on a circle and on a torus respectively yields eleven-dimensional and type IIB supergravity theories at eight-derivative level. The couplings $ ({\partial {G_5}})^2 R^2 $, $ ({\partial {F_4}})^2 R^2 $, $ ({\partial {F_4}})^4 $, $ ({\partial {G_5}})^4 $ and $ ({\partial {G_5}})^2({\partial {F_4}})^2 $ in twelve-dimensional supergravity are determined with this requirement that an ansatz of these couplings should admits a consistent truncation to the eleven-dimensional and type IIB supergravity theories. The self-duality condition of the five-form field strength in twelve dimensions is also understood by considering the RR five-form field strength of type IIB theory at linear order.

Two Ramond-Ramond corrections to type II supergravity via field-theory amplitude

Motivated by the standard form of string-theory amplitude, we calculate the field-theory amplitude to complete the higher-derivative terms in type II supergravity theories in their conventional form. We derive explicitly the $ O(α'^3) $ interactions for the RR (Ramond-Ramond) fields with graviton, B-field and dilaton in the low-energy effective action of type II superstrings. We check our results by comparison with previous works that have been done by the other methods, and find an exact agreement.

Static spherically symmetric black holes in de Rham-Gabadadze-Tolley massive gravity in arbitrary dimensions

This article is devoted to static spherically symmetric black hole solutions of dRGT (de Rham-Gabadadze-Tolley) massive gravity in the presence of cosmological constant. The unitary and non-unitary gauges are used to find the solutions in three, four and five dimensions. We show that there are two general classes of solutions. In one of them, the effect of massive potential is appeared as the effective cosmological constant. By investigating these solutions in different dimensions, we find an expression for effective cosmological constant in arbitrary dimensions.

Higher-derivative corrections to type II supergravity:Four Ramond-Ramond terms

It is known that the sphere-level S-matrix element of four type II superstrings has one kinematic factor. At the low energy limit, this factor produces the kinematic factor of the corresponding Feynman amplitudes in the supergravity. It also produces higher-derivative couplings of four strings. In this paper, we explicitly calculate the kinematic factor of four RR states in the supergravity. Using this factor, we then find the eight-derivative P-even and P-odd couplings of four RR fields, including the self-dual RR five-form field strength. We show that the P-even couplings are mapped to the standard $\bar{R}^4$ couplings by linear T-duality and S-duality transformations. We also confirm the P-even couplings with direct calculations in type II superstring theories.

Sphere-level Ramond-Ramond couplings in Ramond-Neveu-Schwarz formalism

We calculate in details the sphere-level scattering amplitude of two Ramond-Ramond (RR) and two Neveu-Schwarz-Neveu-Schwarz (NSNS) vertex operators in type II superstring theories in Ramond-Neveu-Schwarz (RNS) formalism. We then compare the expansion of this amplitude at order $α'^3$ with the eight-derivative couplings of the gravity and B-field that have been recently found based on S-dual and T-dual Ward identities. We find exact agreement. Moreover, using the above S-matrix element, we have found various couplings involving the dilaton field, and shown that they are also fully consistent with these Ward identities.
