Parameter Estimation for the Mixed Fractional Merton Jump Diffusion Model with EM Algorithm

This paper proposes an Expectation--Maximization algorithm with Metropolis--Hastings sampling for parameter estimation in a Mixed Fractional Merton Jump Diffusion model. The model combines fractional Brownian motion to capture long-range dependence with a compound Poisson jump process to describe abrupt movements in financial returns. The latent jump process is inferred during the E-step using Markov Chain Monte Carlo sampling, while the M-step updates the model parameters by maximizing the expected complete-data likelihood. The consistency and asymptotic normality of the proposed estimator are established under suitable regularity conditions. The methodology is applied to the Helsinki Stock Index (OMXH25). The proposed estimation framework provides a reliable and computationally efficient approach for modeling financial time series exhibiting both long-memory dependence and jump behavior.

Insights into Tail-Based and Order Statistics

Heavy-tailed phenomena appear across diverse domains --from wealth and firm sizes in economics to network traffic, biological systems, and physical processes-- characterized by the disproportionate influence of extreme values. These distributions challenge classical statistical models, as their tails decay too slowly for conventional approximations to hold. Among their key descriptive measures are quantile contributions, which quantify the proportion of a total quantity (such as income, energy, or risk) attributed to observations above a given quantile threshold. This paper presents a theoretical study of the quantile contribution statistic and its relationship with order statistics. We derive a closed-form expression for the joint cumulative distribution function (CDF) of order statistics and, based on it, obtain an explicit CDF for quantile contributions applicable to small samples. We then investigate the asymptotic behavior of these contributions as the sample size increases, establishing the asymptotic normality of the numerator and characterizing the limiting distribution of the quantile contribution. Finally, simulation studies illustrate the convergence properties and empirical accuracy of the theoretical results, providing a foundation for applying quantile contributions in the analysis of heavy-tailed data.

Hedging in Jump Diffusion Model with Transaction Costs

We consider the jump-diffusion risky asset model and study its conditional prediction laws. Next, we explain the conditional least square hedging strategy and calculate its closed form for the jump-diffusion model, considering the Black-Scholes framework with interpretations related to investor priorities and transaction costs. We investigate the explicit form of this result for the particular case of the European call option under transaction costs and formulate recursive hedging strategies. Finally, we present a decision tree, table of values, and figures to support our results.

Multi-Mixed Fractional Brownian Motions and Orstein-Uhlenbeck Processes

We study the so-called multi-mixed fractional Brownian motions (mmfBm) and multi-mixed fractional Ornstein--Ulhenbeck (mmfOU) processes. These processes are constructed by mixing by superimposing (infinitely many) independent fractional Brownian motions (fBm) and fractional Ornstein--Uhlenbeck processes (fOU), respectively. We prove their existence as $L^2$ processes and study their path properties, viz. long-range and short-range dependence, Hölder continuity, $p$-variation, and conditional full support.
