ContiguousKV: Accelerating LLM Prefill with Granularity-Aligned KV Cache Management

Efficiently serving Large Language Models (LLMs) with persistent Prefix Key-Value (KV) Cache is critical for applications like conversational search and multi-turn dialogue. Serving a request requires loading the pre-computed prefix KV cache and generating the first token, defined as the Re-Prefill Phase. Offloading this shared prefix cache to secondary storage is essential for memory scalability. Re-Prefill with offloading suffers from severe I/O bottlenecks in two aspects. First, semantic-aware KV cache pruning algorithms select important tokens in fine granularity, while systems manage I/O in coarse, fixed-size blocks, causing severe read amplification. Second, the sequential dependency between identifying important tokens and loading KV cache creates idle I/O and compute bubbles, under-utilizing system resources. This paper proposes \textit{ContiguousKV}, a high-performance prefix KV cache offloading system that bridges algorithmic semantics with I/O efficiency to accelerate the Re-Prefill phase. We first introduce \textit{ContiguousChunk}, a unified data management granularity that aligns KV cache pruning with I/O operations. All the mechanisms critical for I/O performance are performed at the granularity of ContiguousChunk, thereby eliminating read amplification. By exploiting the high similarity in important ContiguousChunk indices across layers, we propose intra- and inter-period asynchronous prefetching to break the sequential dependency between I/O and compute, effectively eliminating idle bubbles. Finally, we propose attention-guided cache management to retain semantically critical prefix data in memory. Evaluations on Qwen2.5 series models show that ContiguousKV achieves a 3.85x speedup in the Re-Prefill phase over the state-of-the-art offloading system IMPRESS, while maintaining high output quality.

Pipelined Dense Symmetric Eigenvalue Decomposition on Multi-GPU Architectures

Large symmetric eigenvalue problems are commonly observed in many disciplines such as Chemistry and Physics, and several libraries including cuSOLVERMp, MAGMA and ELPA support computing large eigenvalue decomposition on multi-GPU or multi-CPU-GPU hybrid architectures. However, these libraries do not provide satisfied performance that all of the libraries only utilize around 1.5\% of the peak multi-GPU performance. In this paper, we propose a pipelined two-stage eigenvalue decomposition algorithm instead of conventional subsequent algorithm with substantial optimizations. On an 8$\times$A100 platform, our implementation surpasses state-of-the-art cuSOLVERMp and MAGMA baselines, delivering mean speedups of 5.74$\times$ and 6.59$\times$, with better strong and weak scalability.

Transferring Inter-Class Correlation

The Teacher-Student (T-S) framework is widely utilized in the classification tasks, through which the performance of one neural network (the student) can be improved by transferring knowledge from another trained neural network (the teacher). Since the transferring knowledge is related to the network capacities and structures between the teacher and the student, how to define efficient knowledge remains an open question. To address this issue, we design a novel transferring knowledge, the Self-Attention based Inter-Class Correlation (ICC) map in the output layer, and propose our T-S framework, Inter-Class Correlation Transfer (ICCT).

Link Quality Aware Channel Allocation for Multichannel Body Sensor Networks

Body Sensor Network (BSN) is a typical Internet-of-Things (IoT) application for personalized health care. It consists of economically powered, wireless and implanted medical monitoring sensor nodes, which are designed to continually collect the medical information of the target patients. Multichannel is often used in BSNs to reduce the spectrum competition of the tremendous sensor nodes and the problem of channel assignment has attracted much research attention. The health sensing data in BSNs is often required to be delivered to a sink node (or server) before a certain deadline for real time monitoring or health emergency alarm. Therefore, deadline is of significant importance for multichannel allocation and scheduling. The existing works, though designed to meet the deadline, often overlook the impact of the unreliable wireless links. As a result, the health sensing data can still be overdue because of the scheduled lossy links. Besides, potential collisions in the schedules also incur considerable delay in delivering the sensing data. In this paper, we propose a novel deadline- driven Link quality Aware Channel Assignment scheme (LACA), where link quality, deadlines and collisions are jointly considered. LACA prioritizes links with urgent deadlines and heavy collisions. Besides, LACA allows the exploition of the spare slots for retransmissions on lossy links, which can further reduce the retransmission delay. Extensive simulation experiments show that compared to the existing approaches, LACA can better utilize the wireless spectrum and achieve higher packet delivery ratio before the deadline.
