Domain-Aware Mispronunciation Detection and Diagnosis Using Language-Specific Statistical Graphs

Mispronunciation Detection and Diagnosis (MDD) has gained increasing importance in computer-assisted language learning and speech technology in recent years. In this paper, we propose a method for constructing statistical graphs that enable models to learn phoneme confusion patterns represented as directed graphs. Furthermore, we introduce a language-specific strategy to capture systematic pronunciation differences across various native language (L1) backgrounds. The effectiveness of our approach is demonstrated through extensive experiments on the L2-ARCTIC benchmark, where it achieves an F1-score of 59.52%, outperforming several competitive baselines.

Sinusoidal Approximation Theorem for Kolmogorov-Arnold Networks

The Kolmogorov-Arnold representation theorem states that any continuous multivariable function can be exactly represented as a finite superposition of continuous single variable functions. Subsequent simplifications of this representation involve expressing these functions as parameterized sums of a smaller number of unique monotonic functions. These developments led to the proof of the universal approximation capabilities of multilayer perceptron networks with sigmoidal activations, forming the alternative theoretical direction of most modern neural networks. Kolmogorov-Arnold Networks (KANs) have been recently proposed as an alternative to multilayer perceptrons. KANs feature learnable nonlinear activations applied directly to input values, modeled as weighted sums of basis spline functions. This approach replaces the linear transformations and sigmoidal post-activations used in traditional perceptrons. Subsequent works have explored alternatives to spline-based activations. In this work, we propose a novel KAN variant by replacing both the inner and outer functions in the Kolmogorov-Arnold representation with weighted sinusoidal functions of learnable frequencies. Inspired by simplifications introduced by Lorentz and Sprecher, we fix the phases of the sinusoidal activations to linearly spaced constant values and provide a proof of its theoretical validity. We also conduct numerical experiments to evaluate its performance on a range of multivariable functions, comparing it with fixed-frequency Fourier transform methods and multilayer perceptrons (MLPs). We show that it outperforms the fixed-frequency Fourier transform and achieves comparable performance to MLPs.

Multilinear fractional Calder\'on-Zygmund operators on weighted Hardy spaces

We prove norm estimates for multilinear fractional integrals acting on weighted and variable Hardy spaces. In the weighted case we develop ideas we used for multilinear singular integrals [7]. For the variable exponent case, a key element of our proof is a new multilinear, off-diagonal version of the Rubio de Francia extrapolation theorem.

A new approach to norm inequalities on weighted and variable Hardy spaces

We give new proofs of Hardy space estimates for fractional and singular integral operators on weighted and variable exponent Hardy spaces. Our proofs consist of several interlocking ideas: finite atomic decompositions in terms of $L^\infty$ atoms, vector-valued inequalities for maximal and other operators, and Rubio de Francia extrapolation. Many of these estimates are not new, but we give new and substantially simpler proofs, which in turn significantly simplifies the proofs of the Hardy spaces inequalities.

A Highly Accelerated Parallel Multi-GPU based Reconstruction Algorithm for Generating Accurate Relative Stopping Powers

Low-dose Proton Computed Tomography (pCT) is an evolving imaging modality that is used in proton therapy planning which addresses the range uncertainty problem. The goal of pCT is generating a 3D map of Relative Stopping Power (RSP) measurements with high accuracy within clinically required time frames. Generating accurate RSP values within the shortest amount of time is considered a key goal when developing a pCT software. The existing pCT softwares have successfully met this time frame and even succeeded this time goal, but requiring clusters with hundreds of processors. This paper describes a novel reconstruction technique using two Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) cores, such as is available on a single Nvidia P100. The proposed reconstruction technique is tested on both simulated and experimental datasets and on two different systems namely Nvidia K40 and P100 GPUs from IBM and Cray. The experimental results demonstrate that our proposed reconstruction method meets both the timing and accuracy with the benefit of having reasonable cost, and efficient use of power.

The H\"ormander multiplier theorem I: The Linear Case

We discuss $L^p(\mathbb R^n)$ boundedness for Fourier multiplier operators that satisfy the hypotheses of the H\"ormander multiplier theorem in terms of an optimal condition that relates the distance $|\frac 1p-\frac12|$ to the smoothness $s$ of the associated multiplier measured in some Sobolev norm. We provide new counterexamples to justify the optimality of the condition $|\frac 1p-\frac12|<\frac sn$ and we discuss the endpoint case $|\frac 1p-\frac12|=\frac sn$.
