Flexible Multi-Generator Model with Fused Spatiotemporal Graph for Trajectory Prediction

Trajectory prediction plays a vital role in automotive radar systems, facilitating precise tracking and decision-making in autonomous driving. Generative adversarial networks with the ability to learn a distribution over future trajectories tend to predict out-of-distribution samples, which typically occurs when the distribution of forthcoming paths comprises a blend of various manifolds that may be disconnected. To address this issue, we propose a trajectory prediction framework, which can capture the social interaction variations and model disconnected manifolds of pedestrian trajectories. Our framework is based on a fused spatiotemporal graph to better model the complex interactions of pedestrians in a scene, and a multi-generator architecture that incorporates a flexible generator selector network on generated trajectories to learn a distribution over multiple generators. We show that our framework achieves state-of-the-art performance compared with several baselines on different challenging datasets.

A Multimodal Learning Framework for Comprehensive 3D Mineral Prospectivity Modeling with Jointly Learned Structure-Fluid Relationships

This study presents a novel multimodal fusion model for three-dimensional mineral prospectivity mapping (3D MPM), effectively integrating structural and fluid information through a deep network architecture. Leveraging Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) and Multilayer Perceptrons (MLP), the model employs canonical correlation analysis (CCA) to align and fuse multimodal features. Rigorous evaluation on the Jiaojia gold deposit dataset demonstrates the model's superior performance in distinguishing ore-bearing instances and predicting mineral prospectivity, outperforming other models in result analyses. Ablation studies further reveal the benefits of joint feature utilization and CCA incorporation. This research not only advances mineral prospectivity modeling but also highlights the pivotal role of data integration and feature alignment for enhanced exploration decision-making.

Native approach to controlled-Z gates in inductively coupled fluxonium qubits

The fluxonium qubits have emerged as a promising platform for gate-based quantum information processing. However, their extraordinary protection against charge fluctuations comes at a cost: when coupled capacitively, the qubit-qubit interactions are restricted to XX-interactions. Consequently, effective XX- or XZ-interactions are only constructed either by temporarily populating higher-energy states, or by exploiting perturbative effects under microwave driving. Instead, we propose and demonstrate an inductive coupling scheme, which offers a wide selection of native qubit-qubit interactions for fluxonium. In particular, we leverage a built-in, flux-controlled ZZ-interaction to perform qubit entanglement. To combat the increased flux-noise-induced dephasing away from the flux-insensitive position, we use a continuous version of the dynamical decoupling scheme to perform noise filtering. Combining these, we demonstrate a 20 ns controlled-Z (CZ) gate with a mean fidelity of 99.53%. More than confirming the efficacy of our gate scheme, this high-fidelity result also reveals a promising but rarely explored parameter space uniquely suitable for gate operations between fluxonium qubits.

A Novel Discrete Adjoint-based Level Set Topology Optimization Method in B-spline Space

This paper presents a novel computational scheme for sensitivity analysis of the velocity field in the level set method using the discrete adjoint method. The velocity field is represented in B-spline space, and the adjoint equations are constructed based on the discretized governing equations. The key contribution of this work is the demonstration that the velocity field in the level set method can be entirely obtained from the discrete adjoint method. This eliminates the need for shape sensitivity analysis, which is commonly used in standard level set methods. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of the approach in producing optimized results for stress and linearized buckling problems. Overall, the proposed method has the potential to simplify the way in which topology optimization problems using level set methods are solved, and has significant implications for the design of a broad range of engineering applications.

A Transformer-based Deep Learning Algorithm to Auto-record Undocumented Clinical One-Lung Ventilation Events

As a team studying the predictors of complications after lung surgery, we have encountered high missingness of data on one-lung ventilation (OLV) start and end times due to high clinical workload and cognitive overload during surgery. Such missing data limit the precision and clinical applicability of our findings. We hypothesized that available intraoperative mechanical ventilation and physiological time-series data combined with other clinical events could be used to accurately predict missing start and end times of OLV. Such a predictive model can recover existing miss-documented records and relieves the documentation burden by deploying it in clinical settings. To this end, we develop a deep learning model to predict the occurrence and timing of OLV based on routinely collected intraoperative data. Our approach combines the variables' spatial and frequency domain features, using Transformer encoders to model the temporal evolution and convolutional neural network to abstract frequency-of-interest from wavelet spectrum images. The performance of the proposed method is evaluated on a benchmark dataset curated from Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH). Experiments show our approach outperforms baseline methods significantly and produces a satisfactory accuracy for clinical use.

Mobile Power Network for Ultimate Mobility without Battery Life Anxiety

Similar to the evolution from the wired Internet to mobile Internet (MI), the growing demand for power delivery anywhere and anytime appeals for power grid transformation from wired to mobile domain. We propose here the next generation of power delivery network -- mobile power network (MPN) for wireless power transfer within a mobile range from several meters to tens of meters. At first, we present the MPN's concept evolution and application scenarios. Then, we introduce the MPN's supporting technology, namely resonant beam charging (RBC). As a long-range wireless power transfer (WPT) method, RBC can safely deliver multi-Watt power to multiple devices concurrently. Meanwhile, the recent progress in RBC research has been summarized. Next, we specify the MPN's architecture to provide the wide-area WPT coverage. Finally, we discuss the MPN's features and challenges. MPN can enable the ultimate mobility by cutting the final cord of mobile devices, realizing the "last-mile" mobile power delivery.

NLOS Transmission Analysis for Mobile SLIPT Using Resonant Beam

Simultaneous lightwave information and power transfer (SLIPT) is a potential way to meet the demands of sustainable power supply and high-rate data transfer in next-generation networks. Although resonant beam-based SLIPT (RB-SLIPT) can realize high-power energy transfer, high-rate data transfer, human safety, and self-alignment simultaneously, mobile transmission channel (MTC) analysis under non-line-of-sight (NLOS) propagation has not been investigated. In this paper, we propose analytical models and simulation tools for reflector-assisted NLOS transmission of RB-SLIPT, where transmission loss and accurate beam field profile of NLOS MTC can be obtained with a receiver at arbitrary positions and attitude angles. We establish analytical models relying on full diffraction theory for beam propagation between tilted or off-axis planes. Then, we provide three numerical methods (i.e., NUFFT-based, cubic interpolation-based, and linear interpolation-based methods) in simulations. Moreover, to deal with the contradiction between limited computing memory and high sampling requirements for long-range transmission analysis, we propose a multi-hop sliding window approach, which can reduce the sampling number by a factor of thousands. Finally, numerical results demonstrate that RB-SLIPT can achieve $4$W charging power and $12$bit/s/Hz data rate over $2$m distance in NLOS scenarios.

Titanium Nitride Film on Sapphire Substrate with Low Dielectric Loss for Superconducting Qubits

Dielectric loss is one of the major decoherence sources of superconducting qubits. Contemporary high-coherence superconducting qubits are formed by material systems mostly consisting of superconducting films on substrate with low dielectric loss, where the loss mainly originates from the surfaces and interfaces. Among the multiple candidates for material systems, a combination of titanium nitride (TiN) film and sapphire substrate has good potential because of its chemical stability against oxidization, and high quality at interfaces. In this work, we report a TiN film deposited onto sapphire substrate achieving low dielectric loss at the material interface. Through the systematic characterizations of a series of transmon qubits fabricated with identical batches of TiN base layers, but different geometries of qubit shunting capacitors with various participation ratios of the material interface, we quantitatively extract the loss tangent value at the substrate-metal interface smaller than $8.9 \times 10^{-4}$ in 1-nm disordered layer. By optimizing the interface participation ratio of the transmon qubit, we reproducibly achieve qubit lifetimes of up to 300 $μ$s and quality factors approaching 8 million. We demonstrate that TiN film on sapphire substrate is an ideal material system for high-coherence superconducting qubits. Our analyses further suggest that the interface dielectric loss around the Josephson junction part of the circuit could be the dominant limitation of lifetimes for state-of-the-art transmon qubits.

Learning 3D Mineral Prospectivity from 3D Geological Models Using Convolutional Neural Networks: Application to a Structure-controlled Hydrothermal Gold Deposit

The three-dimensional (3D) geological models are the typical and key data source in the 3D mineral prospecitivity modeling. Identifying prospectivity-informative predictor variables from the 3D geological models is a challenging and tedious task. Motivated by the ability of convolutional neural networks (CNNs) to learn the intrinsic features, in this paper, we present a novel method that leverages CNNs to learn 3D mineral prospectivity from the 3D geological models. By exploiting the learning ability of CNNs, the presented method allows for disentangling complex correlation to the mineralization and thus opens a door to circumvent the tedious work for designing the predictor variables. Specifically, to explore the unstructured 3D geological models with the CNNs whose input should be structured, we develop a 2D CNN framework in which the geometry of geological boundary is compiled and reorganized into multi-channel images and fed into the CNN. This ensures an effective and efficient training of CNNs while allowing the prospective model to approximate the ore-forming process. The presented method is applied to a typical structure-controlled hydrothermal deposit, the Dayingezhuang gold deposit, eastern China, in which the presented method was compared with the prospectivity modeling methods using hand-designed predictor variables. The results demonstrate the presented method capacitates a performance boost of the 3D prospectivity modeling and empowers us to decrease work-load and prospecting risk in prediction of deep-seated orebodies.

Fluxonium: an alternative qubit platform for high-fidelity operations

Superconducting qubits provide a promising path toward building large-scale quantum computers. The simple and robust transmon qubit has been the leading platform, achieving multiple milestones. However, fault-tolerant quantum computing calls for qubit operations at error rates significantly lower than those exhibited in the state of the art. Consequently, alternative superconducting qubits with better error protection have attracted increasing interest. Among them, fluxonium is a particularly promising candidate, featuring large anharmonicity and long coherence times. Here, we engineer a fluxonium-based quantum processor that integrates high qubit-coherence, fast frequency-tunability, and individual-qubit addressability for reset, readout, and gates. With simple and fast gate schemes, we achieve an average single-qubit gate fidelity of 99.97% and a two-qubit gate fidelity of up to 99.72%. This performance is comparable to the highest values reported in the literature of superconducting circuits. Thus our work, for the first time within the realm of superconducting qubits, reveals an approach toward fault-tolerant quantum computing that is alternative and competitive to the transmon system.

Retro-Reflective Beam Communications with Spatially Separated Laser Resonator

Optical wireless communications (OWC) utilizing infrared or visible light as the carrier attracts great attention in 6G research. Resonant beam communications (RBCom) is an OWC technology which simultaneously satisfies the needs of non-mechanical mobility and high signal-to-noise ratio~(SNR). It has the self-alignment feature and therefore avoids positioning and pointing operations. However, RBCom undergoes echo interference. Here we propose an echo-interference-free RBCom system design based on second harmonic generation. The transmitter and the receiver constitute a spatially separated laser resonator, in which the retro-reflective resonant beam is formed and tracks the receiver automatically. This structure provides the channel with adaptive capability in beamforming and alignment, which is similar to the concept of intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) enhanced communications, but without hardware and software controllers. Besides, we establish an analytical model to evaluate the beam radius, the beam power, and the channel capacity. The results show that our system achieves longer distance and smaller beam diameter for the transmission beyond 10 Gbit/s, compared with the existing OWC technologies.

End-to-End Transmission Analysis of Simultaneous Wireless Information and Power Transfer using Resonant Beam

Integrating the wireless power transfer (WPT) technology into the wireless communication system has been important for operational cost saving and power-hungry problem solving of electronic devices. In this paper, we propose a resonant beam simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (RB-SWIPT) system, which utilizes a gain medium and two retro-reflecting surfaces to enhance and retro-reflect energy, and allows devices to recharge their batteries and exchange information from the resonant beam wirelessly. To reveal the SWIPT mechanism and evaluate the SWIPT performance, we establish an analytical end-to-end (E2E) transmission model based on a modular approach and the electromagnetic field propagation. Then, the intra-cavity power intensity distribution, transmission loss, output power, and E2E efficiency can be obtained. The numerical evaluation illustrates that the exemplary RB-SWIPT system can provide about 4.20W electric power and 12.41bps/Hz spectral efficiency, and shorter transmission distance or larger retro-reflecting surface size can lead to higher E2E efficiency. The RB-SWIPT presents a new way for high-power, long-range WPT, and high-rate communication.

An efficient 146-line 3D sensitivity analysis code of stress-based topology optimization written in MATLAB

This paper presents an efficient and compact MATLAB code for three-dimensional stress-based sensitivity analysis. The 146 lines code includes the finite element analysis and p-norm stress sensitivity analysis based on the adjoint method. The 3D sensitivity analysis for p-norm global stress measure is derived and explained in detail accompanied by corresponding MATLAB code. The correctness of the analytical sensitivity is verified by comparison with finite difference approximation. The nonlinear optimization solver is chosen as the Method of moving asymptotes (MMA). Three typical volume-constrained stress minimization problems are presented to verify the effectiveness of sensitivity analysis code. The MATLAB code presented in this paper can be extended to resolve different stress related 3D topology optimization problems. The complete program for sensitivity analysis is given in the Appendix and is intended for educational purposes only.

Jamming Aided Covert Communication with Multiple Receivers

We consider that a transmitter covertly communicates with multiple receivers under the help of a friendly jammer. The messages intended for different receivers are transmitted in mutually orthogonal frequency bands. An adversary observes all these frequency bands aiming at detecting whether or not communication occurs, while the friendly jammer broadcasts jamming signals to degrade the detection performance of the adversary. We consider a block Rayleigh fading channel model and evaluate the performance of covert communication in two situations: 1) the wireless channels vary slowly such that the transmission ends within one channel coherent time block, and 2) the wireless channels vary fast such that the wireless channels have changed several times before the whole transmission is finished. In the former case, subject to a covertness constraint, we maximize the sum of the effective rates by optimizing the transmit power allocation and the transmission rate for each receiver. In the latter case, we take the channel training process into consideration, and subject to a covertness constraint, we maximize the sum of the ergodic rates by optimizing the power allocation and the pilot length. Though both of the two optimization problems are non-convex, we presented methods to find their global optimal solutions. Besides, we also present methods to find sub-optimal solutions with lower computational complexities. Numerical results are presented to evaluate the performance under the two situations.

A Parametric Level Set Method for Topology Optimization based on Deep Neural Network (DNN)

This paper proposes a new parametric level set method for topology optimization based on Deep Neural Network (DNN). In this method, the fully connected deep neural network is incorporated into the conventional level set methods to construct an effective approach for structural topology optimization. The implicit function of level set is described by fully connected deep neural networks. A DNN-based level set optimization method is proposed, where the Hamilton-Jacobi partial differential equations (PDEs) are transformed into parametrized ordinary differential equations (ODEs). The zero-level set of implicit function is updated through updating the weights and biases of networks. The parametrized reinitialization is applied periodically to prevent the implicit function from being too steep or too flat in the vicinity of its zero-level set. The proposed method is implemented in the framework of minimum compliance, which is a well-known benchmark for topology optimization. In practice, designers desire to have multiple design options, where they can choose a better conceptual design base on their design experience. One of the major advantages of DNN-based level set method is its ability to generate diverse and competitive designs with different network architectures. Several numerical examples are presented to verify the effectiveness of the proposed DNN-based level set method.

Federated machine learning with Anonymous Random Hybridization (FeARH) on medical records

Sometimes electrical medical records are restricted and difficult to centralize for machine learning, which could only be trained in distributed manner that involved many institutions in the process. However, sometimes some institutions are likely to figure out the private data used for training certain models based on the parameters they obtained, which is a violation of privacy and certain regulations. Under those circumstances, we develop an algorithm, called 'federated machine learning with anonymous random hybridization'(abbreviated as 'FeARH'), using mainly hybridization algorithm to eliminate connections between medical record data and models' parameters, which avoid untrustworthy institutions from stealing patients' private medical records. Based on our experiment, our new algorithm has similar AUCROC and AUCPR result compared with machine learning in centralized manner and original federated machine learning, at the same time, our algorithm can greatly reduce data transfer size in comparison with original federated machine learning.

Robust and Secure Communications in Intelligent Reflecting Surface Assisted NOMA networks

This letter investigates secure transmission in an intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) assisted non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) network. Consider a practical eavesdropping scenario with imperfect channel state information of the eavesdropper, we propose a robust beamforming scheme using artificial noise to guarantee secure NOMA transmission with the IRS. A joint transmit beamforming and IRS phase shift optimization problem is formulated to minimize the transmit power. Since the problem is non-convex and challenging to resolve, we develop an effective alternative optimization (AO) algorithm to obtain stationary point solutions. Simulation results validate the security advantage of the robust beamforming scheme and the effectiveness of the AO algorithm.
