Ano-SuPs: Multi-size anomaly detection for manufactured products by identifying suspected patches

Image-based systems have gained popularity owing to their capacity to provide rich manufacturing status information, low implementation costs and high acquisition rates. However, the complexity of the image background and various anomaly patterns pose new challenges to existing matrix decomposition methods, which are inadequate for modeling requirements. Moreover, the uncertainty of the anomaly can cause anomaly contamination problems, making the designed model and method highly susceptible to external disturbances. To address these challenges, we propose a two-stage strategy anomaly detection method that detects anomalies by identifying suspected patches (Ano-SuPs). Specifically, we propose to detect the patches with anomalies by reconstructing the input image twice: the first step is to obtain a set of normal patches by removing those suspected patches, and the second step is to use those normal patches to refine the identification of the patches with anomalies. To demonstrate its effectiveness, we evaluate the proposed method systematically through simulation experiments and case studies. We further identified the key parameters and designed steps that impact the model's performance and efficiency.

TransPeakNet: Solvent-Aware 2D NMR Prediction via Multi-Task Pre-Training and Unsupervised Learning

Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy is essential for revealing molecular structure, electronic environment, and dynamics. Accurate NMR shift prediction allows researchers to validate structures by comparing predicted and observed shifts. While Machine Learning (ML) has improved one-dimensional (1D) NMR shift prediction, predicting 2D NMR remains challenging due to limited annotated data. To address this, we introduce an unsupervised training framework for predicting cross-peaks in 2D NMR, specifically Heteronuclear Single Quantum Coherence (HSQC).Our approach pretrains an ML model on an annotated 1D dataset of 1H and 13C shifts, then finetunes it in an unsupervised manner using unlabeled HSQC data, which simultaneously generates cross-peak annotations. Our model also adjusts for solvent effects. Evaluation on 479 expert-annotated HSQC spectra demonstrates our model's superiority over traditional methods (ChemDraw and Mestrenova), achieving Mean Absolute Errors (MAEs) of 2.05 ppm and 0.165 ppm for 13C shifts and 1H shifts respectively. Our algorithmic annotations show a 95.21% concordance with experts' assignments, underscoring the approach's potential for structural elucidation in fields like organic chemistry, pharmaceuticals, and natural products.

UN-DETR: Promoting Objectness Learning via Joint Supervision for Unknown Object Detection

Unknown Object Detection (UOD) aims to identify objects of unseen categories, differing from the traditional detection paradigm limited by the closed-world assumption. A key component of UOD is learning a generalized representation, i.e. objectness for both known and unknown categories to distinguish and localize objects from the background in a class-agnostic manner. However, previous methods obtain supervision signals for learning objectness in isolation from either localization or classification information, leading to poor performance for UOD. To address this issue, we propose a transformer-based UOD framework, UN-DETR. Based on this, we craft Instance Presence Score (IPS) to represent the probability of an object's presence. For the purpose of information complementarity, IPS employs a strategy of joint supervised learning, integrating attributes representing general objectness from the positional and the categorical latent space as supervision signals. To enhance IPS learning, we introduce a one-to-many assignment strategy to incorporate more supervision. Then, we propose Unbiased Query Selection to provide premium initial query vectors for the decoder. Additionally, we propose an IPS-guided post-process strategy to filter redundant boxes and correct classification predictions for known and unknown objects. Finally, we pretrain the entire UN-DETR in an unsupervised manner, in order to obtain objectness prior. Our UN-DETR is comprehensively evaluated on multiple UOD and known detection benchmarks, demonstrating its effectiveness and achieving state-of-the-art performance.

Joint Beamforming and Antenna Design for Near-Field Fluid Antenna System

In this letter, we study the energy efficiency maximization problem for a fluid antenna system (FAS) in near field communications. Specifically, we consider a point-to-point near-field system where the base station (BS) transmitter has multiple fixed-position antennas and the user receives the signals with multiple fluid antennas. Our objective is to jointly optimize the transmit beamforming of the BS and the fluid antenna positions at the user for maximizing the energy efficiency. Our scheme is based on an alternating optimization algorithm that iteratively solves the beamforming and antenna position subproblems. Our simulation results validate the performance improvement of the proposed algorithm and confirm the effectiveness of FAS.

F2PAD: A General Optimization Framework for Feature-Level to Pixel-Level Anomaly Detection

Image-based inspection systems have been widely deployed in manufacturing production lines. Due to the scarcity of defective samples, unsupervised anomaly detection that only leverages normal samples during training to detect various defects is popular. Existing feature-based methods, utilizing deep features from pretrained neural networks, show their impressive performance in anomaly localization and the low demand for the sample size for training. However, the detected anomalous regions of these methods always exhibit inaccurate boundaries, which impedes the downstream tasks. This deficiency is caused: (i) The decreased resolution of high-level features compared with the original image, and (ii) The mixture of adjacent normal and anomalous pixels during feature extraction. To address them, we propose a novel unified optimization framework (F2PAD) that leverages the Feature-level information to guide the optimization process for Pixel-level Anomaly Detection in the inference stage. The proposed framework is universal and plug-and-play, which can enhance various feature-based methods with limited assumptions. Case studies are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of our strategy, particularly when applied to three popular backbone methods: PaDiM, CFLOW-AD, and PatchCore.

On Étale Algebras and Bosonic Fusion 2-Categories

We classify all connected and Lagrangian étale algebras in the Drinfeld center $\mathscr{Z}_1(\mathbf{2Vect}^π_G)$, where $G$ is a finite group and $π$ is a 4-cocycle on $G$. By Décoppet's result every bosonic fusion 2-category $\mathfrak{C}$ has its Drinfeld center equivalent to $\mathscr{Z}_1(\mathbf{2Vect}^π_G)$ for some $G$ and $π$. Combining this fact with classification of Lagrangian algebras in $\mathscr{Z}_1(\mathbf{2Vect}^π_G)$, we obtain a classification of bosonic fusion 2-categories.

A Tutorial on Fluid Antenna System for 6G Networks: Encompassing Communication Theory, Optimization Methods and Hardware Designs

The advent of the sixth-generation (6G) networks presents another round of revolution for the mobile communication landscape, promising an immersive experience, robust reliability, minimal latency, extreme connectivity, ubiquitous coverage, and capabilities beyond communication, including intelligence and sensing. To achieve these ambitious goals, it is apparent that 6G networks need to incorporate the state-of-the-art technologies. One of the technologies that has garnered rising interest is fluid antenna system (FAS) which represents any software-controllable fluidic, conductive, or dielectric structure capable of dynamically changing its shape and position to reconfigure essential radio-frequency (RF) characteristics. Compared to traditional antenna systems (TASs) with fixed-position radiating elements, the core idea of FAS revolves around the unique flexibility of reconfiguring the radiating elements within a given space. One recent driver of FAS is the recognition of its position-flexibility as a new degree of freedom (dof) to harness diversity and multiplexing gains. In this paper, we provide a comprehensive tutorial, covering channel modeling, signal processing and estimation methods, information-theoretic insights, new multiple access techniques, and hardware designs. Moreover, we delineate the challenges of FAS and explore the potential of using FAS to improve the performance of other contemporary technologies. By providing insights and guidance, this tutorial paper serves to inspire researchers to explore new horizons and fully unleash the potential of FAS.

Effect of Top Al$_2$O$_3$ Interlayer Thickness on Memory Window and Reliability of FeFETs With TiN/Al$_2$O$_3$/Hf$_{0.5}$Zr$_{0.5}$O$_2$/SiO$_x$/Si (MIFIS) Gate Structure

We investigate the effect of top Al2O3 interlayer thickness on the memory window (MW) of Si channel ferroelectric field-effect transistors (Si-FeFETs) with TiN/Al$_2$O$_3$/Hf$_{0.5}$Zr$_{0.5}$O$_2$/SiO$_x$/Si (MIFIS) gate structure. We find that the MW first increases and then remains almost constant with the increasing thickness of the top Al2O3. The phenomenon is attributed to the lower electric field of the ferroelectric Hf$_{0.5}$Zr$_{0.5}$O$_2$ in the MIFIS structure with a thicker top Al2O3 after a program operation. The lower electric field makes the charges trapped at the top Al2O3/Hf0.5Zr0.5O$_2$ interface, which are injected from the metal gate, cannot be retained. Furthermore, we study the effect of the top Al$_2$O$_3$ interlayer thickness on the reliability (endurance characteristics and retention characteristics). We find that the MIFIS structure with a thicker top Al$_2$O$_3$ interlayer has poorer retention and endurance characteristics. Our work is helpful in deeply understanding the effect of top interlayer thickness on the MW and reliability of Si-FeFETs with MIFIS gate stacks.

Channel Estimation and Reconstruction in Fluid Antenna System: Oversampling is Essential

Fluid antenna system (FAS) has recently surfaced as a promising technology for the upcoming sixth generation (6G) wireless networks. Unlike traditional antenna system (TAS) with fixed antenna location, FAS introduces a flexible component in which the radiating element can switch its position within a predefined space. This capability allows FAS to achieve additional diversity and multiplexing gains. Nevertheless, to fully reap the benefits of FAS, obtaining channel state information (CSI) over the predefined space is crucial. In this paper, we study the system with a transmitter equipped with a traditional fixed antenna and a receiver with a fluid antenna by considering an electromagnetic-compliant channel model. We address the challenges of channel estimation and reconstruction using Nyquist sampling and maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) methods. Our analysis reveals a fundamental tradeoff between the accuracy of the reconstructed channel and the number of estimated channels, indicating that half-wavelength sampling is insufficient for perfect reconstruction and that oversampling is essential to enhance accuracy. Despite its advantages, oversampling can introduce practical challenges. Consequently, we propose a suboptimal sampling distance that facilitates efficient channel reconstruction. In addition, we employ the MLE method to bound the channel estimation error by $ε$, with a specific confidence interval (CI). Our findings enable us to determine the minimum number of estimated channels and the total number of pilot symbols required for efficient channel reconstruction in a given space. Lastly, we investigate the rate performance of FAS and TAS and demonstrate that FAS with imperfect CSI can outperform TAS with perfect CSI. In contrast to existing works, we also show that there is an optimal fluid antenna size that maximizes the achievable rate.

Energy change and Landauer's principle in the interaction between qubit and quantum field theory

We give a general description of the system evolution under the interaction between qubit and quantum field theory up to the second order perturbation, which is also referred to as the simplified model of light-matter interaction. The results are classified into rotating and counter-rotating wave terms, the former corresponding to stimulated absorption and emission, and the latter to Unruh and anti-Unruh effects. We obtain not only the reduced density matrix of the qubit, but also the backreaction obtained by quantum field theory as the environment. The result shows that the energy variation of the quantum field theory is related to trajectory and the initial state of the qubit, the expectation values of the linear and quadratic field operators, and the temporal order product operator. When the qubit is in accelerated motion, the conventional Unruh effect causes the vacuum state to possess a "temperature", which raises some doubts about the validity of Landauer's principle. We prove that Landauer's principle still holds for any state of motion.

A Mathematical Theory of Hyper-simplex Fractal Network for Blockchain: Part I

Blockchain technology holds promise for Web 3.0, but scalability remains a critical challenge. Here, we present a mathematical theory for a novel blockchain network topology based on fractal N-dimensional simplexes. This Hyper-simplex fractal network folds one-dimensional data blocks into geometric shapes, reflecting both underlying and overlaying network connectivities. Our approach offers near-infinite scalability, accommodating trillions of nodes while maintaining efficiency. We derive the mathematical foundations for generating and describing these network topologies, proving key properties such as node count, connectivity patterns, and fractal dimension. The resulting structure facilitates a hierarchical consensus mechanism and enables deterministic address mapping for rapid routing. This theoretical framework lays the groundwork for next-generation blockchain architectures, potentially revolutionizing large-scale decentralized systems. The Part I work was conducted between March and September 2024.

Self-supervised Preference Optimization: Enhance Your Language Model with Preference Degree Awareness

Recently, there has been significant interest in replacing the reward model in Reinforcement Learning with Human Feedback (RLHF) methods for Large Language Models (LLMs), such as Direct Preference Optimization (DPO) and its variants. These approaches commonly use a binary cross-entropy mechanism on pairwise samples, i.e., minimizing and maximizing the loss based on preferred or dis-preferred responses, respectively. However, while this training strategy omits the reward model, it also overlooks the varying preference degrees within different responses. We hypothesize that this is a key factor hindering LLMs from sufficiently understanding human preferences. To address this problem, we propose a novel Self-supervised Preference Optimization (SPO) framework, which constructs a self-supervised preference degree loss combined with the alignment loss, thereby helping LLMs improve their ability to understand the degree of preference. Extensive experiments are conducted on two widely used datasets of different tasks. The results demonstrate that SPO can be seamlessly integrated with existing preference optimization methods and significantly boost their performance to achieve state-of-the-art performance. We also conduct detailed analyses to offer comprehensive insights into SPO, which verifies its effectiveness. The code is available at https://github.com/lijian16/SPO.

Physical Layer Security over Fluid Antenna Systems: Secrecy Performance Analysis

This paper investigates the performance of physical layer security (PLS) in fluid antenna-aided communication systems under arbitrary correlated fading channels. In particular, it is considered that a single fixed-antenna transmitter aims to send confidential information to a legitimate receiver equipped with a planar fluid antenna system (FAS), while an eavesdropper, also taking advantage of a planar FAS, attempts to decode the desired message. For this scenario, we first present analytical expressions of the equivalent channel distributions at the legitimate user and eavesdropper by using copula, so that the obtained analytical results are valid for any arbitrarily correlated fading distributions. Then, with the help of Gauss-Laguerre quadrature, we derive compact analytical expressions for the average secrecy capacity (ASC), the secrecy outage probability (SOP), and the secrecy energy efficiency (SEE) for the FAS wiretap channel. Moreover, for exemplary purposes, we also obtain the compact expression of ASC, SOP, and SEE by utilizing the Gaussian copula under correlated Rayleigh fading channels as a special case. Eventually, numerical results indicate that applying the fluid antenna with only one activated port to PLS can guarantee more secure and reliable transmission, when compared to traditional antenna systems (TAS) exploiting maximal ratio combining (MRC) and antenna selection (AS) under selection combining (SC).

Impact Of Emotions on Information Seeking And Sharing Behaviors During Pandemic

We propose a novel approach to assess the public's coping behavior during the COVID-19 outbreak by examining the emotions. Specifically, we explore (1) changes in the public's emotions with the COVID-19 crisis progression and (2) the impacts of the public's emotions on their information-seeking, information-sharing behaviors, and compliance with stay-at-home policies. We base the study on the appraisal tendency framework, detect the public's emotions by fine-tuning a pre-trained RoBERTa model, and cross-analyze third-party behavioral data. We demonstrate the feasibility and reliability of our proposed approach in providing a large-scale examination of the publi's emotions and coping behaviors in a real-world crisis: COVID-19. The approach complements prior crisis communication research, mainly based on self-reported, small-scale experiments and survey data. Our results show that anger and fear are more prominent than other emotions experienced by the public at the pandemic's outbreak stage. Results also show that the extent of low certainty and passive emotions (e.g., sadness, fear) was related to increased information-seeking and information-sharing behaviors. Additionally, high-certainty (e.g., anger) and low-certainty (e.g., sadness, fear) emotions during the outbreak correlated to the public's compliance with stay-at-home orders.
