Quantum teleportation and entanglement distribution over 100-kilometre free-space channels

A long standing goal for quantum communication is to transfer a quantum state over arbitrary distances. Free-space quantum communication provides a promising solution towards this challenging goal. Here, through a 97-km free space channel, we demonstrate long distance quantum teleportation over a 35-53 dB loss one-link channel, and entanglement distribution over a 66-85 dB high-loss two-link channel. We achieve an average fidelity of {80.4(9)}% for teleporting six distinct initial states and observe the violation of the Clauser-Horne-Shimony-Holt inequality after distributing entanglement. Besides being of fundamental interest, our result represents a significant step towards a global quantum network. Moreover, the high-frequency and high-accuracy acquiring, pointing and tracking technique developed in our experiment provides an essential tool for future satellite-based quantum communication.

User Selection for Multi-user MIMO Downlink with Zero-Forcing Beamforming

In this paper, we propose a greedy user selection with swap (GUSS) algorithm based on zero-forcing beamforming (ZFBF) for the multi-user multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) downlink channels. Since existing user selection algorithms, such as the zero-forcing with selection (ZFS), have `redundant user' and `local optimum' flaws that compromise the achieved sum rate, GUSS adds `delete' and `swap' operations to the user selection procedure of ZFS to improve the performance by eliminating `redundant user' and escaping from `local optimum', respectively. In addition, an effective channel vector based effective-channel-gain updating scheme is presented to reduce the complexity of GUSS. With the help of this updating scheme, GUSS has the same order of complexity of ZFS with only a linear increment. Simulation results indicate that on average GUSS achieves 99.3 percent of the sum rate upper bound that is achieved by exhaustive search, over the range of transmit signal-to-noise ratios considered with only three to six times the complexity of ZFS.

On the Sacks-Uhlenbeck flow of Riemannian surfaces

In this paper, we study an $α$-flow for the Sack-Uhlenbeck functional on Riemannian surfaces and prove that the limiting map by the $α$-flows is a weak solution to the harmonic map flow. By an application of the $α$-flow, we present a simple proof of an energy identity of a minimizing sequence in each homotopy class.

Partial Regularity of a minimizer of the relaxed energy for biharmonic maps

In this paper, we study the relaxed energy for biharmonic maps from a $m$-dimensional domain into spheres. By an approximation method, we prove the existence of a minimizer of the relaxed energy of the Hessian energy, and that the minimizer is biharmonic and smooth outside a singular set $Σ$ of finite $(m-4)$-dimensional Hausdorff measure. Moreover, when $m=5$, we prove that the singular set $Σ$ is 1-rectifiable.

A new approximation of relaxed energies for harmonic maps and the Faddeev model

We propose a new approximation for the relaxed energy $E$ of the Dirichlet energy and prove that the minimizers of the approximating functionals converge to a minimizer $u$ of the relaxed energy, and that $u$ is partially regular without using the concept of Cartesian currents. We also use the same approximation method to study the variational problem of the relaxed energy for the Faddeev model and prove the existence of minimizers for the relaxed energy $\tilde{E}_F$ in the class of maps with Hopf degree $\pm 1$.

On stability of the hyperbolic space form under the normalized Ricci flow

This paper studies the normalized Ricci flow from a slight perturbation of the hyperbolic metric on $\mathbb H^n$. It's proved that if the perturbation is small and decays sufficiently fast at the infinity, then the flow will converge exponentially fast to the hyperbolic metric when the dimension $n>5$.

Field test of a practical secure communication network with decoy-state quantum cryptography

We present a secure network communication system that operated with decoy-state quantum cryptography in a real-world application scenario. The full key exchange and application protocols were performed in real time among three nodes, in which two adjacent nodes were connected by approximate 20 km of commercial telecom optical fiber. The generated quantum keys were immediately employed and demonstrated for communication applications, including unbreakable real-time voice telephone between any two of the three communication nodes, or a broadcast from one node to the other two nodes by using one-time pad encryption.

Normalized Ricci flow on nonparabolic surfaces

This paper studies normalized Ricci flow on a nonparabolic surface, whose scalar curvature is asymptotically -1 in an integral sense. By a method initiated by R. Hamilton, the flow is shown to converge to a metric of constant scalar curvature -1. A relative estimate of Green's function is proved as a tool.

Experimental Long-Distance Decoy-State Quantum Key Distribution Based On Polarization Encoding

We demonstrate the decoy-state quantum key distribution (QKD) with one-way quantum communication in polarization space over 102km. Further, we simplify the experimental setup and use only one detector to implement the one-way decoy-state QKD over 75km, with the advantage to overcome the security loopholes due to the efficiency mismatch of detectors. Our experimental implementation can really offer the unconditionally secure final keys. We use 3 different intensities of 0, 0.2 and 0.6 for the pulses of source in our experiment. In order to eliminate the influences of polarization mode dispersion in the long-distance single-mode optical fiber, an automatic polarization compensation system is utilized to implement the active compensation.
