On the generalized toroidal completion of period mappings

Given a period map defined over a quasi-projective variety, we construct a completion with rich geometric and Hodge-theoretic meaning. This result may be regarded as an analog of Mumford's toroidal compactification for locally symmetric Hodge varieties as well as a realizable alternative of Kato--Nakayama--Usui's construction.

On the generic degree of two-parameter period mappings

We present a method for computing the generic degree of a period map defined on a quasi-projective surface. As an application, we explicitly compute the generic degree of three period maps underlying families of Calabi-Yau 3-folds coming from toric hypersurfaces. As a consequence, we show that the generic Torelli theorem holds for these cases.

Remarks on the Griffiths infinitesimal invariant of algebraic curves

We study two canonically defined admissible normal functions on the moduli space of smooth genus 4 algebraic curves including the Ceresa normal function. In particular, we study the vanishing criteria for the Griffiths infinitesimal invariants of both normal functions over a specific family of curves.

Remarks on eigenspectra of isolated singularities

We introduce a simple calculus, extending a variant of the Steenbrink spectrum, for describing Hodge-theoretic invariants of (smoothings of) isolated singularities with (relative) automorphisms. After computing these "eigenspectra" in the quasi-homogeneous case, we give three applications to singularity bounding and monodromy of VHS.

Completion of two-parameter period maps by nilpotent orbits

We show that every two-parameter period map admits a Kato--Nakayama--Usui completion to a morphism of log manifolds, and the map onto the image is a morphism of compact algebraic spaces. This result also applies to the case of mixed period maps and we use it to give a construction of generalized N\`eron models.

Eigenperiods and the moduli of points in the line

We study the period map of configurations of n points on the projective line constructed via a cyclic cover branching along these points. By considering the decomposition of its Hodge structure into eigenspaces, we establish the codimension of the locus where the eigenperiod map is still pure. Furthermore, we show that the period map extends to the divisors of a specific moduli space of weighted stable rational curves, and that this extension satisfies a local Torelli map along its fibers.

Space of nilpotent orbits and extension of period maps (I): The weight 3 Calabi-Yau types

In Kato-Nakayama-Usui's theory, a certain space of nilpotent orbits can be constructed and serve as a completion of a given period map. This can be regarded as a generalization of Mumford's toroidal compactification for locally symmetric varieties. Kato-Nakayama-Usui's construction requires the existence of a weak fan, which is not known in general for non-classical cases. In this paper, we show after some slight modifications, such weak fans exist for a large class of period maps of weight 3 Calabi-Yau type. In particular, for these cases a Kato-Nakayama-Usui type completion can be constructed.

Extension of Period Maps by Polyhedral Fans

Kato and Usui developed a theory of partial compactifications for quotients of period domains D by arithmetic groups Γ, in an attempt to generalize the toroidal compactifications of Ash-Mumford-Rapoport-Tai to non-classical cases. Their partial compactifications, which aim to fully compactify the images of period maps, rely on a choice of fan which is strongly compatible with Γ. In particular, they conjectured the existence of a complete fan, which would serve to simultaneously compactify all period maps of a given type. In this paper, we briefly review the theory, and construct a fan which compactifies theimage of a period map arising from a particular two-parameter family of Calabi-Yau threefolds studied by Hosono and Takagi, with Hodge numbers (1,2,2,1). On the other hand, we disprove the existence of complete fans in some general cases, including the (1,2,2,1) case.
