On the Maximal Length of MDS Elliptic Codes

The determination of the maximal length of maximum distance separable (MDS) codes arising from elliptic curves is a central problem in coding theory. For an elliptic curve $E$ over $\mathbb{F}_q$, let $\operatorname{MEC}(k,q)$ denote the maximal length of a $q$-ary MDS elliptic code of dimension $k$. It was recently shown that $\operatorname{MEC}(k,q)\le\frac{q+1}{2}+\sqrt{q}$ for $q\ge289$ and $3\le k\le(q+1-2\sqrt{q})/10$, with equality for odd $k$ when $q$ is an odd square. This paper investigates the remaining open cases, namely even dimension $k$, non-square $q$ and fields of characteristic $2$, and provides a complete resolution of the tightness question for the two natural parity regimes of $q+1+\lfloor 2\sqrt{q}\rfloor$. We prove that if the support of $G$ (used to define the code) consists of $\mathbb{F}_q$-rational points, the bound decreases to $\frac{q+1}{2}+\sqrt{q}-1$ for even $k$. Without this restriction, we construct MDS codes attaining $\frac{q+1}{2}+\sqrt{q}$ for even $k$. More generally, we establish $\operatorname{MEC}(k,q)=\frac{q+1+\lfloor2\sqrt{q}\rfloor}{2}$ when $q+1+\lfloor2\sqrt{q}\rfloor$ is even, and $\operatorname{MEC}(k,q)=\frac{q+\lfloor2\sqrt{q}\rfloor}{2}$ when it is odd.

A Note on Cyclotomic Function Fields with Quadratic Modulus

A longstanding and important problem in algebraic geometry is the characterization of algebraic function fields. In this paper, we focus on the characterization problem for cyclotomic function field $L(Λ_M)$, which is an important class of explicit function fields with applications in number theory and coding theory. Motivated by Arakelian and Quoos' classification of $L(Λ_M)$ with an irreducible quadratic modulus, we provide a complete characterization of the cyclotomic function field $L(Λ_M)$ with modulus $M = x^2$. More precisely, we prove that a function field $\mathcal{F}$ over $\mathbb{F}_q$ is $\mathbb{F}_q$-isomorphic to $L(Λ_{x^2})$ if and only if it satisfies the following three conditions: (i) $\mathcal{F}$ has a subgroup $G$ isomorphic to the direct product $(\mathbb{F}_q,+) \times \mathbb{F}_q^*$; (ii) its genus is $g(\mathcal{F}) = 1 + q(q-3)/2$; and (iii) the cardinality of $\mathbb{F}_q$-rational places is exactly $q+1$.

A High-Speed Capable Spherical Robot

This paper designs a new spherical robot structure capable of supporting high-speed motion at up to 10 m/s. Building upon a single-pendulum-driven spherical robot, the design incorporates a momentum wheel with an axis aligned with the secondary pendulum, creating a novel spherical robot structure. Practical experiments with the physical prototype have demonstrated that this new spherical robot can achieve stable high-speed motion through simple decoupled control, which was unattainable with the original structure. The spherical robot designed for high-speed motion not only increases speed but also significantly enhances obstacle-crossing performance and terrain robustness.

$\hat{H}$-eigenvalues of Hermitian tensors and some applications

We introduce $\hat{H}$-eigenvalue for $2m$-th order $n$-dimensional complex tensors. Then we determine several checkable inclusion sets for $\hat{H}$-eigenvalues and derive some criterions for the Hermitian positive definiteness (semi-definiteness) of Hermitian and CPS tensors. We also apply the Hermitian tensors to study holomorphic sectional curvature in complex differential geometry and reprove the algebraic part of recent results by Alvarez-Heier-Zheng and Chaturvedi-Heier.

Collective Large-scale Wind Farm Multivariate Power Output Control Based on Hierarchical Communication Multi-Agent Proximal Policy Optimization

Wind power is becoming an increasingly important source of renewable energy worldwide. However, wind farm power control faces significant challenges due to the high system complexity inherent in these farms. A novel communication-based multi-agent deep reinforcement learning large-scale wind farm multivariate control is proposed to handle this challenge and maximize power output. A wind farm multivariate power model is proposed to study the influence of wind turbines (WTs) wake on power. The multivariate model includes axial induction factor, yaw angle, and tilt angle controllable variables. The hierarchical communication multi-agent proximal policy optimization (HCMAPPO) algorithm is proposed to coordinate the multivariate large-scale wind farm continuous controls. The large-scale wind farm is divided into multiple wind turbine aggregators (WTAs), and neighboring WTAs can exchange information through hierarchical communication to maximize the wind farm power output. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed multivariate HCMAPPO can significantly increase wind farm power output compared to the traditional PID control, coordinated model-based predictive control, and multi-agent deep deterministic policy gradient algorithm. Particularly, the HCMAPPO algorithm can be trained with the environment based on the thirteen-turbine wind farm and effectively applied to larger wind farms. At the same time, there is no significant increase in the fatigue damage of the wind turbine blade from the wake control as the wind farm scale increases. The multivariate HCMAPPO control can realize the collective large-scale wind farm maximum power output.

Compact Hermitian surfaces with pointwise constant Gauduchon holomorphic sectional curvature

Motivated by a recent work of Chen-Zheng [8] on Strominger space forms, we prove that a compact Hermitian surface with pointwise constant holomorphic sectional curvature with respect to a Gauduchon connection $\nabla^t $ is either Kähler, or an isosceles Hopf surface with an admissible metric and $t=-1$ or $t=3$. In particular, a compact Hermitian surface with pointwise constant Lichnerowicz holomorphic sectional curvature is Kähler. We further generalize the result to the case for the two-parameter canonical connections introduced by Zhao-Zheng [30], which extends a previous result by Apostolov-Davidov-Muškarov [2].

Schwarz lemma: the case of equality and an extension

We prove two results related to the Schwarz lemma in complex geometry. First, we show that if the inequality in the Schwarz lemmata of Yau, Royden and Tosatti becomes equality at one point, then the equality holds on the whole manifold. In particular, the holomorphic map is totally geodesic and has constant rank. In the second part, we study the holomorphic sectional curvature on an almost Hermitian manifold and establish a Schwarz lemma in terms of holomorphic sectional curvatures in almost Hermitian setting.

Liouville Theorems for holomorphic maps on pseudo-Hermitian manifolds

We prove some Liouville type results for generalized holomorphic maps in three classes: maps from pseudo-Hermitian manifolds to almost Hermitian manifolds, maps from almost Hermitian manifolds to pseudo-Hermitian manifolds and maps from pseudo-Hermitian manifolds to pseudo-Hermitian manifolds, assuming that the domains are compact. For instance, we show that any $(J,J^N)$ holomorphic map from a compact pseudo-Hermitian manifold $M$ with nonnegative (resp. positive) pseudo-Hermitian sectional curvature to an almost Hermitian manifold $N$ with negative (resp. nonpositive) holomorphic sectional curvature is constant. We also construct explicit almost CR structures on a complex vector bundle over an almost CR manifold.

Kodaira dimensions of almost complex manifolds I

This is the first of a series of papers, in which we study the plurigenera, the Kodaira dimension and more generally the Iitaka dimension on compact almost complex manifolds. Based on the Hodge theory on almost complex manifolds, we introduce the plurigenera, Kodaira dimension and Iitaka dimension on compact almost complex manifolds. We show that the plurigenera and the Kodaira dimension as well as the irregularity are birational invariants in almost complex category, at least in dimension $4$, where a birational morphism is defined to be a degree one pseudoholomorphic map. However, they are no longer deformation invariants, even in dimension $4$ or under tameness assumption. On the way to establish the birational invariance, we prove the Hartogs extension theorem in the almost complex setting by the foliation-by-disks technique. Some interesting phenomena of these invariants are shown through examples. In particular, we construct non-integrable compact almost complex manifolds with large Kodaira dimensions. Hodge numbers and plurigenera are computed for the standard almost complex structure on the six sphere $S^6$, which are different from the data of a hypothetical complex structure.

Kodaira dimensions of almost complex manifolds II

This is the second of a series of papers where we study the plurigenera, the Kodaira dimension and the Iitaka dimension on compact almost complex manifolds. By using the pseudoholomorphic pluricanonical map, we define the second version of Kodaira dimension as well as Iitaka dimension on compact almost complex manifolds. We show the almost complex structures with the top Kodaira dimension are integrable. For compact almost complex 4-manifolds with Kodaira dimension one, we obtain elliptic fibration like structural description. Some vanishing theorems in complex geometry are generalized to the almost complex setting. For tamed symplectic $4$-manifolds, we show that the almost Kodaira dimension is bounded above by the symplectic Kodaira dimension, by using a probabilistic combinatorics style argument. The appendix also contains a few results including answering a question of the second author that there is a unique subvariety in exceptional curve classes for irrational symplectic $4$-manifolds, as well as extending Evans-Smith's constraint on symplectic embeddings of certain rational homology balls by removing the assumption on the intersection form.

Chern-Ricci curvatures, holomorphic sectional curvature and Hermitian metrics

We present some formulae related to the Chern-Ricci curvatures and scalar curvatures of special Hermitian metrics. We prove that a compact locally conformal Kähler manifold with constant nonpositive holomorphic sectional curvature is Kähler. We also give examples of complete non-Kähler metrics with pointwise negative constant but not globally constant holomorphic sectional curvature, and complete non-Kähler metric with zero holomorphic sectional curvature and nonvanishing curvature tensor.

Odd type generalized complex structures on 4-manifolds

We prove that a compact smooth 4-manifold admits generalized complex structures of odd type if and only if it has a transversely holomorphic 2-foliation. Consequently, there exist generalized complex structures of odd type on a circle bundle over a closed Seifert fibered 3-manifold.
