See-through: Single-image Layer Decomposition for Anime Characters

We introduce a framework that automates the transformation of static anime illustrations into manipulatable 2.5D models. Current professional workflows require tedious manual segmentation and the artistic ``hallucination'' of occluded regions to enable motion. Our approach overcomes this by decomposing a single image into fully inpainted, semantically distinct layers with inferred drawing orders. To address the scarcity of training data, we introduce a scalable engine that bootstraps high-quality supervision from commercial Live2D models, capturing pixel-perfect semantics and hidden geometry. Our methodology couples a diffusion-based Body Part Consistency Module, which enforces global geometric coherence, with a pixel-level pseudo-depth inference mechanism. This combination resolves the intricate stratification of anime characters, e.g., interleaving hair strands, allowing for dynamic layer reconstruction. We demonstrate that our approach yields high-fidelity, manipulatable models suitable for professional, real-time animation applications.

Fast Virtual Gate Extraction For Silicon Quantum Dot Devices

Silicon quantum dot devices stand as promising candidates for large-scale quantum computing due to their extended coherence times, compact size, and recent experimental demonstrations of sizable qubit arrays. Despite the great potential, controlling these arrays remains a significant challenge. This paper introduces a new virtual gate extraction method to quickly establish orthogonal control on the potentials for individual quantum dots. Leveraging insights from the device physics, the proposed approach significantly reduces the experimental overhead by focusing on crucial regions around charge state transition. Furthermore, by employing an efficient voltage sweeping method, we can efficiently pinpoint these charge state transition lines and filter out erroneous points. Experimental evaluation using real quantum dot chip datasets demonstrates a substantial 5.84x to 19.34x speedup over conventional methods, thereby showcasing promising prospects for accelerating the scaling of silicon spin qubit devices.

Hyperstroke: A Novel High-quality Stroke Representation for Assistive Artistic Drawing

Assistive drawing aims to facilitate the creative process by providing intelligent guidance to artists. Existing solutions often fail to effectively model intricate stroke details or adequately address the temporal aspects of drawing. We introduce hyperstroke, a novel stroke representation designed to capture precise fine stroke details, including RGB appearance and alpha-channel opacity. Using a Vector Quantization approach, hyperstroke learns compact tokenized representations of strokes from real-life drawing videos of artistic drawing. With hyperstroke, we propose to model assistive drawing via a transformer-based architecture, to enable intuitive and user-friendly drawing applications, which are experimented in our exploratory evaluation.

BFTBrain: Adaptive BFT Consensus with Reinforcement Learning

This paper presents BFTBrain, a reinforcement learning (RL) based Byzantine fault-tolerant (BFT) system that provides significant operational benefits: a plug-and-play system suitable for a broad set of hardware and network configurations, and adjusts effectively in real-time to changing fault scenarios and workloads. BFTBrain adapts to system conditions and application needs by switching between a set of BFT protocols in real-time. Two main advances contribute to BFTBrain's agility and performance. First, BFTBrain is based on a systematic, thorough modeling of metrics that correlate the performance of the studied BFT protocols with varying fault scenarios and workloads. These metrics are fed as features to BFTBrain's RL engine in order to choose the best-performing BFT protocols in real-time. Second, BFTBrain coordinates RL in a decentralized manner which is resilient to adversarial data pollution, where nodes share local metering values and reach the same learning output by consensus. As a result, in addition to providing significant operational benefits, BFTBrain improves throughput over fixed protocols by $18\%$ to $119\%$ under dynamic conditions and outperforms state-of-the-art learning based approaches by $44\%$ to $154\%$.
