Two-loop leading-color QCD corrections for Higgs plus two-jet production in the heavy-top limit

We present the leading-color two-loop QCD corrections for Higgs-boson production in association with two jets through gluon fusion in the heavy-top effective theory. We provide analytic expressions for the finite remainders of the helicity amplitudes, written in terms of one-mass pentagon functions with spinor-helicity coefficients. These expressions are obtained by reconstructing the amplitudes from numerical finite-field samples computed within the numerical unitarity framework. The reconstruction is made possible by several advances in exploiting the analytic structure of the amplitudes, which both reduce the number of required samples and lead to compact representations. In particular, we introduce a new algorithm for multivariate partial fraction decomposition, based on a generic bivariate slice and a simplified treatment of ideal intersections. Using the resulting analytic expressions, we provide an efficient and stable implementation of their numerical evaluation, ready for phenomenological applications. Finally, we study the singularity structure of the remainders and confirm the existence of a threshold at non-degenerate physical momentum configurations, usually associated with massive virtual particle exchanges.

Charged Higgs Pairs at the LHC: A NLO Analysis

Charged Higgs-boson pair production at hadron colliders yields information about the trilinear couplings involving charged Higgs fields in extensions of the Standard Model (SM). We consider the type-I two-Higgs doublet model (2HDM) extension and obtain next-to-leading order QCD predictions for the charged-Higgs pair production ($H^+H^-$ production). All production modes, i.e. Drell--Yan-like production, gluon fusion and vector-boson fusion are included in the analysis. We determine uncertainties originating from the scale dependence, the parton-density functions and strong coupling $\alpha_s$ at the LHC. We observe that the QCD corrections lead to a significant reduction of the relative scale dependences. These improved predictions will allow for a quantitative interpretation of experimental measurements, in case that charged Higgs states will be observed.

Gravitational Bremsstrahlung in Black-Hole Scattering at $\mathcal{O}(G^3)$: Quadratic-in-Spin Effects

We are employing a supersymmetric variant of the worldline quantum field theory (WQFT) formalism to compute the far-field momentum-space gravitational waveform emitted during the scattering of two spinning black holes at next-to-leading order (NLO) in the post-Minkowskian expansion. Our results are accurate up to quadratic-in-spin contributions, which means we report for the very first time the waveform observable at the order $\mathcal{O}(G^3\mathcal{S}^2)$. Our computation is based on mapping $n$-body tree-level amplitudes in such a way that we can obtain the $(n-2)$-loop two-body waveform integrand. We discuss in detail this procedure and highlight the similarity of the resulting structures with those obtained in the scattering-amplitude approach. As a by product of our computational approach, we also obtain, for the first time, the leading-order waveform for three-body scattering of spinning black holes. We validated our results in various ways but most notably, we find exact agreement for the NLO waveform integrand obtained from the WQFT and the classical limit of scattering amplitudes in QFT.

Compact Two-Loop QCD Corrections for $Vjj$ Production in Proton Collisions

We present compact two-loop QCD corrections in the leading-color approximation for the production of an electroweak vector boson, $V = \{W^{\pm}, Z,\gamma^\star\}$, in association with two light jets ($Vjj$) at hadron colliders. Leptonic decays of the electroweak boson are included at the amplitude level. Working in the analytic-reconstruction approach, we develop two techniques to build compact partial-fraction forms for individual rational functions. One approach exploits their analytic structure. In the other, we iteratively construct subtraction terms that match the rational functions in singular limits. Moreover, we show how the singular behavior of the rational functions can be systematically used to find a more compact basis of the space that they span. We apply our techniques to the $Vjj$ amplitudes, yielding a representation that is three orders of magnitude smaller than previous results. We then use these compact expressions to provide an efficient and stable C++ numerical implementation suitable for phenomenological applications.

Gravitational Bremsstrahlung in Black-Hole Scattering at $\mathcal{O}(G^3)$: Linear-in-Spin Effects

We compute the far-field time-domain waveform of the gravitational waves produced in the scattering of two spinning massive objects. The results include linear-in-spin ($S$) couplings and first-order gravitational corrections ($G^3$), and are valid for encounters in the weak-field regime. Employing a field-theory framework based on the scattering of massive scalar and vector particles coupled to Einstein-Hilbert gravity, we derive results for leading and the next-to-leading spectral waveforms. We provide analytic expressions for the required scattering data, which include trees, one-loop amplitudes and their cuts. The expressions are extracted from numerical amplitude evaluations with the Caravel program, using analytic reconstruction techniques applied in the classical limit. We confirm a recent prediction for infrared physics of the classical observable, and observe the surprising appearance of a ultraviolet singularity, which drops out in the far-field waveform.

Double-Virtual NNLO QCD Corrections for Five-Parton Scattering: The Quark Channels

We complete the computation of two-loop helicity amplitudes required to obtain next-to-next-to-leading order QCD corrections for three-jet production at hadron colliders, including all contributions beyond the leading-color approximation. The analytic expressions are reconstructed from finite-field samples obtained with the numerical unitarity method. We find that the reconstruction is significantly facilitated by exploiting the overlaps between rational coefficient functions of quark and gluon processes, and we display their compact generating sets in the appendix of the paper. We implement our results in a public code, and demonstrate its suitability for phenomenological applications.

Double-Virtual NNLO QCD Corrections for Five-Parton Scattering: The Gluon Channel

We compute the two-loop helicity amplitudes for the scattering of five gluons, including all contributions beyond the leading-color approximation. The analytic expressions are represented as linear combinations of transcendental functions with rational coefficients, which we reconstruct from finite-field samples obtained with the numerical unitarity method. Guided by the requirement of removing unphysical singularities, we find a remarkably compact generating set of rational coefficients, which we are able to display entirely in the manuscript. We implement our results in a public code, which provides efficient and reliable numerical evaluations for phenomenological applications.

All Two-Loop Feynman Integrals for Five-Point One-Mass Scattering

We compute the complete set of two-loop master integrals for the scattering of four massless particles and a massive one. Our results are ready for phenomenological applications, removing a major obstacle to the computation of complete next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) QCD corrections to processes such as the production of a $H/Z/W$ boson in association with two jets at the LHC. Furthermore, they open the door to new investigations into the structure of quantum-field theories and provide precious analytic data for studying the mathematical properties of Feynman integrals.

Two-Loop QCD Corrections for Three-Photon Production at Hadron Colliders

We complete the computation of the two-loop helicity amplitudes for the production of three photons at hadron colliders, including all contributions beyond the leading-color approximation. We reconstruct the analytic form of the amplitudes from numerical finite-field samples obtained with the numerical unitarity method. This method requires as input surface terms for all relevant five-point non-planar integral topologies, which we obtain by solving the associated syzygy problem in embedding space. The numerical samples are used to constrain compact spinor-helicity ans\"atze, which are optimized by taking advantage of the known one-loop analytic structure. We make our analytic results available in a public C++ library, which is suitable for immediate phenomenological applications. We estimate that the inclusion of the subleading-color contributions will decrease the size of the two-loop corrections by about 30% to 50%, and the NNLO cross sections by a few percent, compared to the results in the leading-color approximation.

Two-Loop Hexa-Box Integrals for Non-Planar Five-Point One-Mass Processes

We present the calculation of the three distinct non-planar hexa-box topologies for five-point one-mass processes. These three topologies are required to obtain the two-loop virtual QCD corrections for two-jet-associated W, Z or Higgs-boson production. Each topology is solved by obtaining a pure basis of master integrals and efficiently constructing the associated differential equation with numerical sampling and unitarity-cut techniques. We present compact expressions for the alphabet of these non-planar integrals, and discuss some properties of their symbol. Notably, we observe that the extended Steinmann relations are in general not satisfied. Finally, we solve the differential equations in terms of generalized power series and provide high-precision values in different regions of phase space which can be used as boundary conditions for subsequent evaluations.

Universality in the classical limit of massless gravitational scattering

We demonstrate the universality of the gravitational classical deflection angle of massless particles through O(G^3) by studying the high-energy limit of full two-loop four-graviton scattering amplitudes in pure Einstein gravity as well as N >= 4 supergravity. As a by-product, our first-principles calculation provides a direct confirmation of the massless deflection angle in Einstein gravity proposed long ago by Amati, Ciafaloni and Veneziano, and is inconsistent with a recently proposed alternative.

Five-Point Two-Loop Amplitudes from Numerical Unitarity

We present advances in the development of the numerical unitarity method for the computation of multi-loop amplitudes in QCD. As an application, we show results for all the leading-color two-loop five-gluon helicity amplitudes. The amplitudes are reduced to a linear combination of master integrals by employing unitarity-compatible integration-by-parts identities, and the corresponding integral coefficients are computed in an exact manner on rational phase-space points through finite fields arithmetics.

Two-loop D-dimensional unitarity and dual conformal symmetry

In this talk we show that dual conformal symmetry has unexpected applications to Feynman integrals in dimensional regularization. Outside $4$ dimensions, the symmetry is anomalous, but still preserves the unitarity cut surfaces. This generally leads to differential equations whose RHS is proportional to $(d-4)$ and has no doubled propagators. The stabilizer subgroup of the conformal group leads to integration-by-parts (IBP) relations without doubled propagators. The above picture also suggested hints that led us to find a nonplanar analog of dual conformal symmetry.

Planar Two-Loop Five-Gluon Amplitudes from Numerical Unitarity

We present a calculation of the planar two-loop five-gluon amplitudes. The amplitudes are obtained in a variant of the generalized unitarity approach suitable for numerical computations, which we extend for use with finite field arithmetics. Employing a new method for the generation of unitarity-compatible integration-by-parts identities, all helicity amplitudes are reduced to a linear combination of master integrals for the first time. The approach allows us to compute exact values for the integral coefficients at rational phase-space points. All required master integrals are known analytically, and we obtain arbitrary-precision values for the amplitudes.

Dual Conformal Symmetry, Integration-by-Parts Reduction, Differential Equations and the Nonplanar Sector

We show that dual conformal symmetry, mainly studied in planar $\mathcal N = 4$ super-Yang-Mills theory, has interesting consequences for Feynman integrals in nonsupersymmetric theories such as QCD, including the nonplanar sector. A simple observation is that dual conformal transformations preserve unitarity cut conditions for any planar integrals, including those without dual conformal symmetry. Such transformations generate differential equations without raised propagator powers, often with the right hand side of the system proportional to the dimensional regularization parameter $ε$. A nontrivial subgroup of dual conformal transformations, which leaves all external momenta invariant, generates integration-by-parts relations without raised propagator powers, reproducing, in a simpler form, previous results from computational algebraic geometry for several examples with up to two loops and five legs. By opening up the two-loop three- and four-point nonplanar diagrams into planar ones, we find a nonplanar analog of dual conformal symmetry. As for the planar case this is used to generate integration-by-parts relations and differential equations. This implies that the symmetry is tied to the analytic properties of the nonplanar sector of the two-loop four-point amplitude of $\mathcal N = 4$ super-Yang-Mills theory.

Towards a Numerical Unitarity Approach for Two-loop Amplitudes in QCD

The numerical unitarity approach has been important for obtaining reliable QCD predictions for the LHC. Here I discuss the extension of the approach beyond the leading quantum corrections for computing multi-loop amplitudes. The numerical unitarity approach requires a suitable parametrisation of the loop integrands as a sum of terms that integrate to zero (surface terms) and master integrands. The construction and classification of suitable surface terms which match the propagators structures of Feynman amplitudes is the main technical advance discussed. A number of spin-offs for integral reduction and further formal questions are briefly reviewed.

Di-vector Boson Production with Jets at the LHC

In this talk we present the first calculation of next-to-leading-order QCD corrections for the production of $W^+W^-$ pairs in association with three jets at the LHC. We show the observed improvement in the dependence of total and differential cross sections on the unphysical renormalization and factorization scales. We study the radiation pattern for configurations associated to vector-boson fusion and the impact that the QCD corrections have on them.

Two-loop Integrand Decomposition into Master Integrals and Surface Terms

Loop amplitudes are conveniently expressed in terms of master integrals whose coefficients carry the process dependent information. Similarly before integration, the loop integrands may be expressed as a linear combination of propagator products with universal numerator-tensors. Such a decomposition is an important input for the numerical unitarity approach, which constructs integrand coefficients from on-shell tree amplitudes. We present a new method to organise multi-loop integrands into a direct sum of terms that integrate to zero (surface terms) and remaining master integrands. This decomposition facilitates a general, numerical unitarity approach for multi-loop amplitudes circumventing analytic integral reduction. Vanishing integrals are well known as integration-by-parts identities. Our construction can be viewed as an explicit construction of a complete set of integration-by-parts identities excluding doubled propagators. Interestingly, a class of 'horizontal' identities is singled out which hold as well for altered propagator powers.
