Frenet-Serret equations with variable proper acceleration in Minkowski spacetime

We study Frenet-Serret equations for timelike worldlines in Minkowski spacetime with proper-time-dependent curvature and torsion. This corresponds to relativistic motion with non-uniform proper acceleration and, when torsion is included, to trajectories whose Frenet-Serret frame rotates beyond the acceleration plane. Using the Gram-Schmidt construction of the tetrad from the four-velocity and its derivatives, we relate the intrinsic Frenet-Serret parameters to kinematic quantities such as proper acceleration, four-jerk, and four-snap. We then consider simple analytic cases for the jerk invariant and torsion, obtaining explicit curvature profiles and reduced Frenet-Serret equations. These examples clarify how non-constant acceleration and torsion modify the geometry of accelerated relativistic motion.

Relativistic hyperbolic motion and its higher order kinematic quantities

We investigate the kinematics of the motion of an observer with constant proper acceleration (relativistic hyperbolic motion) in 1+1 and 1+3 dimensional Minkowski spacetimes. We provide explicit formulas for all the kinematic quantities up to the fourth proper time derivative (the Snap). In the 1+3 case, following a recent work of Pons and de Palol [Gen. Rel. Grav. 51 (2019) 80], a vectorial differential equation for the acceleration is obtained which by considering constant proper acceleration is turned into a nonlinear second order differential equation in terms of derivatives of the radius vector. If, furthermore, the velocity is parameterized in terms of hyperbolic functions, one obtains a differential equation to solve for the argument f(s) of the velocity. Differently from Pons and de Palol, who employed the particular solution, linear in the proper time s, we obtain the general solution and use it to work out more general expressions for the kinematical quantities. As a byproduct, we obtain a class of modified Rindler hyperbolic worldlines characterized by supplementary contributions to the components of the kinematical quantities.

Factorization of the Riesz-Feller fractional quantum harmonic oscillators

Using the Riesz-Feller fractional derivative, we apply the factorization algorithm to the fractional quantum harmonic oscillator along the lines previously proposed by Olivar-Romero and Rosas-Ortiz, extending their results. We solve the non-Hermitian fractional eigenvalue problem in the k space by introducing in that space a new class of Hermite `polynomials' that we call Riesz-Feller Hermite `polynomials'. Using the inverse Fourier transform in Mathematica, interesting analytic results for the same eigenvalue problem in the x space are also obtained. Additionally, a more general factorization with two different Levy indices is briefly introduced

Stability analysis of orbital modes for a generalized Lane-Emden equation

We present a stability analysis of the standard nonautonomous systems type for a recently introduced generalized Lane-Emden equation which is shown to explain the presence of some of the structures observed in the atomic spatial distributions of magnetically-trapped ultracold atomic clouds. A Lyapunov function is defined which helps us to prove that stable spatial structures in the atomic clouds exist only for the adiabatic index $γ=1+1/n$ with even $n$. In the case when $n$ is odd we provide an instability result indicating the divergence of the density function for the atoms. Several numerical solutions, which according to our stability analysis are stable, are also presented.

Generalized Thomas-Fermi Equations as the Lampariello Class of Emden-Fowler Equations

A one-parameter family of Emden-Fowler equations defined by Lampariello's parameter p which, upon using Thomas-Fermi boundary conditions, turns into a set of generalized Thomas-Fermi equations comprising the standard Thomas-Fermi equation for p=1 is studied in this paper. The entire family is shown to be non integrable by reduction to the corresponding Abel equations whose invariants do not satisfy a known integrability condition. We also discuss the equivalent dynamical system of equations for the standard Thomas-Fermi equation and perform its phase-plane analysis. The results of the latter analysis are similar for the whole class.

One-parameter supersymmetric Hamiltonians in momentum space

Recent results on the one-parameter supersymmetric deformation in momentum space by Curtright and Zachos (2014 J. Phys. A: Math. and Theor. 47 145201; arXiv:1311.6147v2) are presented in a more general framework following our own papers. We extend the analysis of Curtright and Zachos by including the supersymmetric partner one-parameter deformation

Barotropic FRW cosmologies with Chiellini damping in comoving time

For non-zero cosmological constant Lambda, we show that the barotropic FRW cosmologies as worked out in the comoving time lead in the radiation-dominated case to scale factors of identical form as for the Chiellini dissipative scale factors in conformal time obtained recently by us in Phys. Lett. A 379 (2015) 882-887. This is due to the Ermakov equation which is obtained in this case. For zero cosmological constant, several textbook solutions are provided as particular cases of Lambda different from zero.

Integrable equations with Ermakov-Pinney nonlinearities and Chiellini damping

We introduce a special type of dissipative Ermakov-Pinney equations of the form v_{ζζ}+g(v)v_ζ+h(v)=0, where h(v)=h_0(v)+cv^{-3} and the nonlinear dissipation g(v) is based on the corresponding Chiellini integrable Abel equation. When h_0(v) is a linear function, h_0(v)=λ^2v, general solutions are obtained following the Abel equation route. Based on particular solutions, we also provide general solutions containing a factor with the phase of the Milne type. In addition, the same kinds of general solutions are constructed for the cases of higher-order Reid nonlinearities. The Chiellini dissipative function is actually a dissipation-gain function because it can be negative on some intervals. We also examine the nonlinear case h_0(v)=Ω_0^2(v-v^2) and show that it leads to an integrable hyperelliptic case

Barotropic FRW cosmologies with Chiellini damping

It is known that barotropic FRW equations written in the conformal time variable can be reduced to simple linear equations for an exponential function involving the conformal Hubble rate. Here, we show that an interesting class of barotropic universes can be obtained in the linear limit of a special type of nonlinear dissipative Ermakov-Pinney equations with the nonlinear dissipation built from Chiellini's integrability condition. These cosmologies, which evolutionary are similar to the standard ones, correspond to barotropic fluids with adiabatic indices rescaled by a particular factor and have amplitudes of the scale factors inverse proportional to the adiabatic index

Integrable dissipative nonlinear second order differential equations via factorizations and Abel equations

We emphasize two connections, one well known and another less known, between the dissipative nonlinear second order differential equations and the Abel equations which in its first kind form have only cubic and quadratic terms. Then, employing an old integrability criterion due to Chiellini, we introduce the corresponding integrable dissipative equations. For illustration, we present the cases of some integrable dissipative Fisher, nonlinear pendulum, and Burgers-Huxley type equations which are obtained in this way and can be of interest in applications. We also show how to obtain Abel solutions directly from the factorization of second-order nonlinear equations

Shifted Riccati Procedure: Application to Conformal Barotropic FRW Cosmologies

In the case of barotropic FRW cosmologies, the Hubble parameter in conformal time is the solution of a simple Riccati equation of constant coefficients. We consider these cosmologies in the framework of nonrelativistic supersymmetry that has been effective in the area of supersymmetric quantum mechanics. Recalling that Faraoni [Amer. J. Phys. 67 (1999), 732-734] showed how to reduce the barotropic FRW system of differential equations to simple harmonic oscillator differential equations, we set the latter equations in the supersymmetric approach and divide their solutions into two classes of 'bosonic' (nonsingular) and 'fermionic' (singular) cosmological zero-mode solutions. The fermionic equations can be considered as representing cosmologies of Stephani type, i.e., inhomogeneous and curvature-changing in the conformal time. We next apply the so-called shifted Riccati procedure by introducing a constant additive parameter, denoted by S, in the common Riccati solution of these supersymmetric partner cosmologies. This leads to barotropic Stephani cosmologies with periodic singularities in their spatial curvature indices that we call U and V cosmologies, the first being of bosonic type and the latter of fermionic type. We solve completely these cyclic singular cosmologies at the level of their zero modes showing that an acceptable shift parameter should be purely imaginary, which in turn introduces a parity-time (PT) property of the partner curvature indices.

Supersymmetric time-continuous discrete random walks

We apply the supersymmetric procedure to one-step random walks in one dimension at the level of the usual master equation, extending a study initiated by H.R. Jauslin [Phys. Rev. A {\bf 41}, 3407 (1990)]. A discussion of the supersymmetric technique for this discrete case is presented by introducing a formal second-order discrete master derivative and its ``square root", and we solve completely, and in matrix form, the cases of homogeneous random walks (constant jumping rates). A simple generalization of Jauslin's results to two uncorrelated axes is also provided. There may be many applications, especially to bistable and multistable one-step processes.

On mean free path statistics of relativistic heavy ions in nuclear emulsion

We survey at the general level, and in a rather wide and historical context, some less known mathematical details of various mean free path statistics in nuclear emulsion as applied to relativistic projectile fragmentations. A number of comments are provided on Feller's paradox, ordered, censored, and truncated statistics, Erlang and Poisson observers of nuclear emulsion. All these issues are related to the statistical approaches used about a decade ago at Berkeley Bevalac for anomalons, some of which should be considered as standard methods for mean free paths' estimators of relativistic heavy ions.
