On the invariance of the speed of light

The invariance of the speed of light in all inertial frames - the second postulate of special theory of relativity (STR) - is shown to be an inevitable consequence of the relativity principle of special theory of relativity taken in conjunction with the homogeneity of space and time in all inertial frames, i.e., the 1st postulate of STR. The new approach presented here renders the learning of special theory of relativity logically simpler, as it makes use of only one postulate.

First-Principles Study of Structural and Electronic Properties of Germanene

The ground state structural and electronic properties of germanene (the germanium analogue of graphene) are investigated using first-principles calculations. On structure optimization, the graphene-like honeycomb structure of germanene turns out as buckled (buckling parameter $Δ= 0.635$ Å) in contrast with graphene's planar structure (buckling parameter $Δ= 0.0$ Å). In spite of this, germanene has similar electronic structure as that of graphene. While corroborating the reported results, we newly predict the in-plane contraction of hexagonal Ge with (thermal) stretching along the "c" axis, akin to a phenomenon observed in graphite.

Structural and Electronic Properties of Graphene and Silicene: An FP-(L)APW+lo Study

We report here the structural and electronic properties of graphene and silicene (silicon analogue of graphene) investigated using first-principles calculations of their ground state energies employing full-potential (linearized) augmented plane wave plus local orbital (FP-(L)APW+lo) method. On structure optimization, we found that the graphene-like honeycomb structure of Si is buckled (buckling parameter $Δ= 0.44$ Åin constrast with graphene whose structure is planar ($Δ= 0.0$ Å). In spite of the buckled-structure, silicene has an electronic structure similar to that of graphene. The results are in agreement with previous reports based on other methods. We have also calculated the lower bounds of the lattice constant $"a"$ of these 2D systems, within the present method of study which are our new results.

Gravitational Thomas Precession - A Gravitomagnetic Effect ?

Gravitational Thomas Precession (GTP) is the name given to the Thomas Precession when the acceleration is caused by a gravitational force field. In continuation of our discussion on the idea of a GTP, in this note by way of considering the motion of a planet around the Sun, the GTP is shown to be a gravitomagnetic effect that a planet might experience while moving through a gravitational field (say that of the Sun). The contribution of the GTP to the perihelion advance of Mercury is again estimated at 21.49 arc-seconds per century confirming and clarifying our earlier results.

A flat space-time relativistic explanation for the perihelion advance of Mercury

Starting with the flat space-time relativistic versions of Maxwell-Heaviside's toy model vector theory of gravity and introducing the gravitational analogues for the electromagnetic Lienard-Wiechert potentials together with the notion of a gravitational Thomas Precession; the observed anomalous perihelion advance of Mercury's orbit is here explained as a relativistic effect in flat (Minkowski) space-time, unlike Einstein's curved space-time relativistic explanation. In this new explanation for the old paradoxical observation of Mercury's perihelion shift, the predicted value of the effect happens to coincide with Einstein's predicted value in General relativity.

Is there a Gravitational Thomas Precession ?

Gravitational Thomas Precession (GTP) is the name given to Thomas Precession when the acceleration is caused by a gravitational force field. The contributio n of the GTP to the the anomalous perihelion advance of the orbit of Mercury is here estimated at $\dot{\tilde{\bfω}}_{GTP} = 21\cdot49 [ 1 + \frac{(\vec L \cdot \vec S)}{L^{2}} ] {arcsec/century} $,where $ \vec L $ and $ \vec S $ respectively represents the orbital angular momentum and the spin angular momentum of Mercury .This effect seems to be of some serious concern for the General Relativity.

Gravitational Thomas Precession and the Perihelion Advance of Mercury

Gravitational Thomas Precession (GTP) is the name given to Thomas Precession when the acceleration is caused by a gravitational force field. The GTP gives a negative contribution of 7.163 arcsec/century for the anomalous perihelion advance of Mercury's orbit. This effect seems to be of some concern for the General Relativity.

A comment on the Invariance of the Speed of Light

The invariance of the speed of light in all inertial frames is shown to be an inevitable consequence of the relativity principle of special relativity contrary to the view held by Hsu and Hsu in taiji relativity where the speed of light is no longer a universal constant. The present approach is not only new but also much simpler than the existing approaches.

Gravitomagnetic Moments and Dynamics of Dirac's (spin 1/2) fermions in flat space-time Maxwellian Gravity

The gravitational effects in the relativistic quantum mechanics are investigated in a relativistically derived version of Heaviside's speculative Gravity (in flat space-time) named here as Maxwellian Gravity. The standard Dirac's approach to the intrinsic spin in the fields of Maxwellian Gravity yields the gravitomagnetic moment of a Dirac (spin 1/2) particle exactly equals to its intrinsic spin. Violation of The Equivalence Principle (both at classical and quantum mechanical level) in the relativistic domain has also been reported in this work.
