A Tau function for $q$-Painlevé VI as a Fredholm determinant

We give an analytic construction of a tau function for the $q$-difference sixth Painlevé equation ($q$PVI) as a Fredholm determinant through the general Riemann-Hilbert problem associated with it. We show that the tau function is an analytic function on its domain of definition that vanishes at a particular point if and only if the corresponding Riemann-Hilbert problem is point-wise not solvable there. We express the corresponding $q$PVI transcendents in terms of the tau function as well as three copies of it with some of the parameters shifted. Then the vanishing of any of these four tau functions corresponds to the transcendents taking value in a specific corresponding exceptional line on the initial value space of $q$PVI. Finally, we derive an asymptotic expansion of the tau function for small times $t$.

Proof of Zamolodchikov conjecture for semi-classical conformal blocks on the torus

In 1986, Zamolodchikov conjectured an exponential structure for the semi-classical limit of conformal blocks on a sphere. This paper provides a rigorous proof of the analog of Zamolodchikov conjecture for Liouville conformal blocks on a one-punctured torus, using their probabilistic construction and show the existence of a positive radius of convergence of the semi-classical limit. As a consequence, we obtain a closed form expression for the solution of the Lamé equation, and show a relation between its accessory parameter and the classical action of the non-autonomous elliptic Calogero-Moser model evaluated at specific values of the solution.

Irregular SLE(4) martingales and isomonodromic deformations

We consider non-Fuchsian monodromy preserving deformations on a Riemann sphere. The associated isomonodromic deformation parameters on this surface comprise the positions of the singularities, together with the Birkhoff (spectral) invariants owing to the presence of irregular singularities. Our first main result is the derivation of the Loewner evolution of these isomonodromic deformation parameters. Using this result, we construct martingale observables for Schramm-Loewner evolution (SLE(4)) processes in the presence of double poles. Geometrically, the expressions contain the pre-Schwarzian and Schwarzian of the Loewner evolution, arising from conformal covariance of the observable. Furthermore, we characterize these SLE(4) observables uniquely in terms of confluent BPZ equations of a CFT with central charge c=1.

Modular transformations of tau functions and conformal blocks on the torus

The connection problem for isomonodromic tau functions on the one-punctured torus concerns the ratio between the tau function and its modular transform, associated to dual pants decompositions of the torus. In this paper, we study the modular transformations of the tau function and consequently derive the connection constant. Moreover, through the relation with two-dimensional Conformal Field Theory, we also obtain an exact closed formula for the $c=1$ Virasoro modular kernel, whose expression was previously unknown, and relate it to the $c\rightarrow\infty$ (semiclassical) modular kernel and $SL_2(\mathbb{C})$ complex Chern-Simons amplitudes. Finally, we prove that the connection constant and the two, $c=1$ and $c\to \infty$, modular kernels are generating functions of canonical transformations on the character variety of the one-punctured torus. Our results are also relevant for the $\mathcal{N}=2^*$ gauge theory.

Recurrence relations and the Christoffel-Darboux formula for elliptic orthogonal polynomials

In recent years, there has been significant progress in the theory of orthogonal polynomials on algebraic curves, particularly on genus 1 surfaces. In this paper, we focus on elliptic orthogonal polynomials and establish several of their fundamental properties. In particular, we derive general five-term and seven-term recurrence relations, which lead to a Christoffel-Darboux formula and the construction of an associated point process on the A-cycle of the torus. Notably, the recurrence coefficients in these relations are intricately linked through the underlying elliptic curve equation. Under additional symmetry assumptions on the weight function, the structure simplifies considerably, recovering known results for orthogonal polynomials on the complex plane.

Nonlinear steepest descent on a torus: A case study of the Landau-Lifshitz equation

We obtain rigorous large time asymptotics for the Landau-Lifshitz equation in the soliton free case by extending the nonlinear steepest descent method to genus 1 surfaces. The methods presented in this paper pave the way to a rigorous analysis of other integrable equations on the torus and enable asymptotic analysis on different regimes of the Landau-Lifshitz equation.

Fredholm determinant representation of the Painlevé II $τ$-function

We formulate the generic $τ$-function of the Painlevé II equation as a Fredholm determinant of an integrable (Its-Izergin-Korepin-Slavnov) operator. The $τ$-function depends on the isomonodromic time $t$ and two Stokes' parameters, and the vanishing locus of the $τ$-function, called the Malgrange divisor is determined by the zeros of the Fredholm determinant.

On a class of elliptic orthogonal polynomials and their integrability

Building upon the recent works of Bertola; Fasondini, Olver and Xu, we define a class of orthogonal polynomials on elliptic curves and establish a corresponding Riemann-Hilbert framework. We then focus on the special case, defined by a constant weight function, and use the Riemann-Hilbert problem to derive recurrence relations and differential equations for the orthogonal polynomials. We further show that the sub-class of even polynomials is associated to the elliptic form of Painlevé VI, with the tau function given by the Hankel determinant of even moments, up to a scaling factor. The first iteration of these even polynomials relates to the special case of Painlevé VI studied by Hitchin in relation to self-dual Einstein metrics.

Painlevé/CFT correspondence on a torus

This note details the relationship between the isomonodromic tau-function and conformal blocks, on a torus with one simple pole. It is based on the author's talk at ICMP 2021.

Monodromy dependence and symplectic geometry of isomonodromic tau functions on the torus

We compute the monodromy dependence of the isomonodromic tau function on a torus with $n$ Fuchsian singularities and $SL(N)$ residue matrices by using its explicit Fredholm determinant representation. We show that the exterior logarithmic derivative of the tau function defines a closed one-form on the space of monodromies and times, and identify it with the generating function of the monodromy symplectomorphism. As an illustrative example, we discuss the simplest case of the one-punctured torus in detail. Finally, we show that previous results obtained in the genus zero case can be recovered in a straightforward manner using the techniques presented here.

Isomonodromic tau functions on a torus as Fredholm determinants, and charged partitions

We prove that the isomonodromic tau function on a torus with Fuchsian singularities and generic monodromies in $GL(N,\mathbb{C})$ can be written in terms of a Fredholm determinant of Cauchy-Plemelj operators. We further show that the minor expansion of this Fredholm determinant is described by a series labeled by charged partitions. As an example, we show that in the case of $SL(2,\mathbb{C})$ this combinatorial expression takes the form of a dual Nekrasov-Okounkov partition function, or equivalently of a free fermion conformal block on the torus. Based on these results, we also propose a definition of the tau function of the Riemann-Hilbert problem on a torus with generic jump on the A-cycle.

The $τ$-function of the Ablowitz-Segur family of solutions to Painlevé II as a Widom constant

$τ$-functions of certain Painlevé equations (PVI,PV,PIII) can be expressed as a Fredholm determinant. Further, the minor expansion of these determinants provide an interesting connection to Random partitions. This paper is a step towards understanding whether the $τ$-function of Painlevé II has a Fredholm determinant representation. The Ablowitz-Segur family of solutions are special one parameter solutions of Painlevé II and the corresponding $τ$-function is known to be the Fredholm determinant of the Airy Kernel. We develop a formalism for open contour in parallel to the one formulated in \cite{CGL} in terms of the Widom constant and verify that the Widom constant for Ablowitz-Segur family of solutions is indeed the determinant of the Airy Kernel. Finally, we construct a suitable basis and obtain the minor expansion of the Ablowitz-Segur $τ$-function.

Killing vectors of FLRW metric (in comoving coordinates) and zero modes of the scalar Laplacian

Based on an examination of the solutions to the Killing Vector equations for the FLRW-metric in co moving coordinates , it is conjectured and proved that the components(in these coordinates) of Killing Vectors, when suitably scaled by functions, are \emph{zero modes} of the corresponding \emph{scalar} Laplacian. The complete such set of zero modes(infinitely many) are explicitly constructed for the two-sphere. They are parametrised by an integer n. For $n\,\ge\,2$, all the solutions are \emph{irregular} (in the sense that they are neither well defined everywhere nor are \emph{square-integrable}). The associated 2-d vectors are also \emph{not normalisable}. The $n=0$ solutions being constants (these correspond to the zero angular momentum solutions) are regular and normalizable. Not all of the $n=1$ solutions are regular but the associated vectors are normalizable. Of course, the action of scalar Laplacian coordinate independent significance only when acting on scalars. However, our conclusions have an unambiguous meaning as long as one works in this coordinate system. As an intermediate step, the covariant Laplacians(vector Laplacians) of Killing vectors are worked out for four-manifolds in two different ways, both of which have the novelty of not explicitly needing the connections. It is further shown that for certain maximally symmetric sub-manifolds(hypersurfaces of one or more constant comoving coordinates) of the FLRW-spaces also, the scaled Killing vector components are zero modes of their corresponding scalar Laplacians. The Killing vectors for the maximally symmetric four-manifolds are worked out using the elegant embedding formalism originally due to Schrödinger . Some consequences of our results are worked out. Relevance to some very recent works on zero modes in AdS/CFT correspondences , as well as on braneworld scenarios is briefly commented upon.
