Report of the Topical Group on Particle Dark Matter for Snowmass 2021

This report summarizes the findings of the CF1 Topical Subgroup to Snowmass 2021, which was focused on particle dark matter. One of the most important scientific goals of the next decade is to reveal the nature of dark matter (DM). To accomplish this goal, we must delve deep, to cover high priority targets including weakly-interacting massive particles (WIMPs), and search wide, to explore as much motivated DM parameter space as possible. A diverse, continuous portfolio of experiments at large, medium, and small scales that includes both direct and indirect detection techniques maximizes the probability of discovering particle DM. Detailed calibrations and modeling of signal and background processes are required to make a convincing discovery. In the event that a candidate particle is found through different means, for example at a particle collider, the program described in this report is also essential to show that it is consistent with the actual cosmological DM. The US has a leading role in both direct and indirect detection dark matter experiments -- to maintain this leading role, it is imperative to continue funding major experiments and support a robust R\&D program.

CLEO Results on Heavy Meson Mixing

We discuss recent CLEO results on D0-D0bar and B0d-B0dbar mixing. The principal results are that for the D0 system, allowing for CP violations, the mixing amplitude x'<2.9% (95% C.L.), and for the B0d system, chi=0.198+-0.013+-0.014. We make projections for future sensistivity to D0-D0bar mixing, and to sin(2*beta+gamma).

Search for D0-D0bar Mixing

We report on a search for D0-D0bar mixing made by a study of the `wrong-sign' process D0 -> K+pi-. The data come from an integrated luminosity of e+e- collisions at sqrt{s} of about 10 GeV consisting of 9.0 1/fb recorded with the CLEO-II.V detector. We measure the time-integrated rate of the `wrong-sign' process D0 -> K+pi-, relative to that of the Cabibbo-favored process D0bar -> K+pi-, to be R_ws=(0.34+-0.07+-0.06)%. We study that rate as a function of the decay time of the D0, to distinguish the rate of direct doubly-Cabibbo-suppressed decay from D0-D0bar mixing. The amplitudes that describe D0-D0bar mixing, x' and y', are consistent with zero. The one-dimensional limits, at the 95% C.L., that we determine are (1/2)x'^2<0.05%, and -5.9% < y' < 0.3%. All results are preliminary.

Heavy Quark Hadronic Weak Decays from CLEO-II

We present preliminary results from the CLEO-II collaboration on a variety of hadronic final states of mesons containing heavy quarks. In particular, the pattern of 2-body \B\ decays is now decisively different that that of \D\ and \K\ decays; perhaps a consequence will be that $τ_{\BM}<τ_{\BZB}$. We have observed `wrong-sign' $\DZ\sto\KP\PIM$ decays, which are probably due to a doubly Cabibbo-suppressed transition.
