Conformal and Contact Kinetic Dynamics and Their Geometrization

We propose a conformal generalization of the reversible Vlasov equation of kinetic plasma dynamics, called conformal kinetic theory. In order to arrive at this formalism, we start with the conformal Hamiltonian dynamics of particles and lift it to the dynamical formulation of the associated kinetic theory. The resulting theory represents a simple example of a geometric pathway from dissipative particle motion to dissipative kinetic motion. We also derive the kinetic equations of a continuum of particles governed by the contact Hamiltonian dynamics, which may be interpreted in the context of relativistic mechanics. Once again we start with the contact Hamiltonian dynamics and lift it to a kinetic theory, called contact kinetic dynamics. Finally, we project the contact kinetic theory to conformal kinetic theory so that they form a geometric hierarchy.

$3D$-flows Generated by the Curl of a Vector Potential \& Maurer-Cartan Equations

We examine $3D$ flows $\mathbf{\dot{x}}=\mathbf{v}({\bf x})$ admitting vector identity $M\mathbf{v} = \nabla \times \mathbf{A}$ for a multiplier $M$ and a potential field $\mathbf{A}$. It is established that, for those systems, one can complete the vector field $\mathbf{v}$ into a basis fitting an $\mathfrak{sl}(2)$-algebra. Accordingly, in terms of covariant quantities, the structure equations determine a set of equations in Maurer-Cartan form. This realization permits one to obtain the potential field as well as to investigate the (bi-)Hamiltonian character of the system. The latter occurs if the system has a time-independent first integral. In order to exhibit the theoretical results on some concrete cases, three examples are provided, namely the Gulliot system, a system with a non-integrable potential, and the Darboux-Halphen system in symmetric polynomials.

Tulczyjew's Triplet for Lie Groups III : Higher Order Dynamics and Reductions for Iterated Bundles

Given a Lie group $G$, we elaborate the dynamics on $T^*T^*G$ and $T^*TG$, which is given by a Hamiltonian, as well as the dynamics on the Tulczyjew symplectic space $TT^*G$, which may be defined by a Lagrangian or a Hamiltonian function. As the trivializations we adapted respect the group structures of the iterated bundles, we exploit all possible subgroup reductions (Poisson, symplectic or both) of higher order dynamics.

On Geometrical Couplings of Dissipation and Curl Forces

In this paper, we present several geometric ways to incorporate gyroscopic and dissipative forces to curl forces. We first present a proper metriplectic geometry. Then, using the Herglotz principle and generalized Euler-Lagrange equation, we propose a formulation of dissipative radial curl forces. Finally, we extend our result to azimuthal curl force using Galley's method, which leads to a natural formulation for Lagrangian and Hamiltonian dynamics of generic non-conservative systems.

Reductions of Topologically Massive Gravity I: Hamiltonian Analysis of The Second Order Degenerate Lagrangians

We study the Hamiltonian formalisms of the second order degenerate Clèment and Sarıoğlu-Tekin Lagrangians. The Dirac-Bergmann constraint algorithm is employed while arriving at the total Hamiltonian functions and the Hamilton's equations on the associated momemtum phase spaces whereas the Gotay-Nester-Hinds algorithm is run while investigating the Skinner-Rusk unified formalism on the proper Whitney bundles.

Superintegrable Cases of Four Dimensional Dynamical Systems

Degenerate tri-Hamiltonian structures of Shivamoggi and generalized Raychaudhuri equations are exhibited. For certain specific values of the parameters, it is shown that hyperchaotic Lü and Qi systems are superintegrable and admit tri-Hamiltonian structures.

Tulczyjew's Triplet for Lie Groups II: Dynamics

Taking configuration space as a Lie group, the trivialized Euler-Lagrange and Hamilton's equations are obtained and presented as Lagrangian submanifolds of the trivialized Tulczyjew's symplectic space. Euler-Poincaré and Lie-Poisson equations are presented as Lagrangian submanifolds of the reduced Tulczyjew's symplectic space. Tulczyjew's generalized Legendre transformations for trivialized and reduced dynamics are constructed.

Reductions of Dynamics on Second Iterated Bundles of Lie Groups

We consider trivializations of second iterated bundles of a Lie group that preserve lifted group structures. With such a trivialization, we elaborate Hamiltonian dynamics on cotangent, Lagrangian dynamics on tangent bundles and, both Hamiltonian and Lagrangian dynamics on Tulczyjew's symplectic space which is tangent of cotangent bundle of Lie group. We present all possible Poisson, symplectic and Lagrangian reductions of spaces and corresponding dynamics on them. In particular, reduction of Lagrangian dynamics on second iterated tangent bundle includes reduction of dynamics on second order tangent bundle.

Bi-Hamiltonian Structure of Gradient Systems in Three Dimensions and Geometry of Potential Surfaces

Working bi-Hamiltonian structure and Jacobi identity in Frenet-Serret frame associated to a dynamical system, we proved that all dynamical systems in three dimensions possess two compatible Poisson structures. We investigate relations between geometry of surfaces defined by potential function of a gradient system and its bi-Hamiltonian structure. We show that it is possible to find Hamiltonian functions whose gradient flows have geodesic curvature zero on potential surfaces. Using this, we conclude that Hamiltonian functions are determined by distance functions on potential surfaces. We apply this technique to find conserved quantities of three dimensional gradient systems including the Aristotelian model of the three-body motion.

Lie Algebra of Hamiltonian Vector Fields and the Poisson-Vlasov Equations

We introduce natural differential geometric structures underlying the Poisson-Vlasov equations in momentum variables. We decompose the space of all vector fields over particle phase space into a semi-direct product algebra of Hamiltonian vector fields and its complement. The latter is related to dual space of Lie algebra. Lie algebra of Hamiltonian vector fields is isomorphic to the space of all Lagrangian submanifolds with respect to Tulczyjew symplectic structure. This is obtained as tangent space at the identity of the group of canonical diffeomorphisms represented as space of sections of a trivial bundle. We obtain the momentum-Vlasov equations as vertical equivalence of complete cotangent lift of Hamiltonian vector field generating particle motion. Vertical representatives can be described by holonomic lift from a Whitney product to a Tulczyjew symplectic space. A generalization of complete cotangent lift is obtained by a Lie algebra homomorphism from the algebra of symmetric contravariant tensor fields with Schouten concomitant to the Lie algebra of Hamiltonian vector fields. Momentum maps for particular subalgebras result in plasma-to-fluid map in momentum variables. We exhibit dynamical relations between Lie algebras of Hamiltonian vector fields and of contact vector fields, in particular; infinitesimal quantomorphisms. Gauge symmetries of particle motion are extended to tensorial objects including complete lift of particle motion. Poisson equation is then obtained as zero value of momentum map for the Hamiltonian action of gauge symmetries for kinematical description.

Jets, Lifts and Dynamics

We show that complete cotangent lifts of vector fields, their decomposition into vertical representative and holonomic part provide a geometrical framework underlying Eulerian equations of continuum mechanics. We discuss Euler equations for ideal incompressible fluid and Vlasov equations of plasma dynamics in connection with the lifts of divergence-free and Hamiltonian vector fields, respectively. As a further application, we obtain kinetic equations of particles moving with the flow of contact vector fields both from Lie-Poisson reductions and with the techniques of present framework.

Group of Canonical Diffeomorphisms and the Poisson-Vlasov Equations

Dynamics of collisionless plasma described by the Poisson-Vlasov equations is connected with the Hamiltonian motions of particles and their symmetries. The Poisson equation is obtained as a constraint arising from the gauge symmetries of particle dynamics. Variational derivative constrained by the Poisson equation is used to obtain reduced dynamical equations. Lie-Poisson reduction for the group of canonical diffeomorphisms gives the momentum-Vlasov equations. Plasma density is defined as the divergence of symplectic dual of momentum variables. This definition is also given a momentum map description. An alternative formulation in momentum variables as a canonical Hamiltonian system with a quadratic Hamiltonian functional is described. A comparison of one-dimensional plasma and two-dimensional incompressible fluid is presented.

Helicity invariants in 3D : kinematical aspects

Exact, degenerate two-forms on time-extended space R X M which are invariant under the unsteady, incompressible fluid motion on 3D region M are introduced. The equivalence class up to exact one-forms of each potential one-form is splitted by the velocity field. The components of this splitting corresponds to Lagrangian and Eulerian conservation laws for helicity densities. These are expressed as the closure of three-forms which depend on two discrete and a continuous parameter. Each two-form is extended to a symplectic form on R X M. The subclasses of potential one-forms giving rise to Eulerian helicity conservations is shown to result in conformally symplectic structures on R X M. The connection between Lagrangian and Eulerian conservation laws for helicity is shown to be the same as the conformal equivalence of a Poisson bracket algebra to infinitely many local Lie algebra of functions on R X M.
