Standing waves with prescribed mass for biharmonic NLS with positive dispersion and Sobolev critical exponent

We investigate standing waves with prescribed mass for a class of biharmonic Schrodinger equations with positive Laplacian dispersion in the Sobolev critical regime. By establishing novel energy inequalities and developing a direct minimization approach, we prove the existence of two normalized solutions for the corresponding stationary problem. The first one is a ground state with negative level, and the second one is a higher-energy solution with positive level. It is worth noting that we do not work in the space of radial functions, and do not use Palais-Smale sequences so as to avoid applying the relatively complex mini-max approach based on a strong topological argument. Finally, we explore the relationship between the ground states and the least action solutions, some asymptotic properties and dynamical behavior of solutions, such as the orbital stability and the global existence.

Electricity Cost Minimization for Multi-Workflow Allocation in Geo-Distributed Data Centers

Worldwide, Geo-distributed Data Centers (GDCs) provide computing and storage services for massive workflow applications, resulting in high electricity costs that vary depending on geographical locations and time. How to reduce electricity costs while satisfying the deadline constraints of workflow applications is important in GDCs, which is determined by the execution time of servers, power, and electricity price. Determining the completion time of workflows with different server frequencies can be challenging, especially in scenarios with heterogeneous computing resources in GDCs. Moreover, the electricity price is also different in geographical locations and may change dynamically. To address these challenges, we develop a geo-distributed system architecture and propose an Electricity Cost aware Multiple Workflows Scheduling algorithm (ECMWS) for servers of GDCs with fixed frequency and power. ECMWS comprises four stages, namely workflow sequencing, deadline partitioning, task sequencing, and resource allocation where two graph embedding models and a policy network are constructed to solve the Markov Decision Process (MDP). After statistically calibrating parameters and algorithm components over a comprehensive set of workflow instances, the proposed algorithms are compared with the state-of-the-art methods over two types of workflow instances. The experimental results demonstrate that our proposed algorithm significantly outperforms other algorithms, achieving an improvement of over 15\% while maintaining an acceptable computational time. Comprehensive Relighting: Generalizable and Consistent Monocular Human Relighting and Harmonization

This paper introduces Comprehensive Relighting, the first all-in-one approach that can both control and harmonize the lighting from an image or video of humans with arbitrary body parts from any scene. Building such a generalizable model is extremely challenging due to the lack of dataset, restricting existing image-based relighting models to a specific scenario (e.g., face or static human). To address this challenge, we repurpose a pre-trained diffusion model as a general image prior and jointly model the human relighting and background harmonization in the coarse-to-fine framework. To further enhance the temporal coherence of the relighting, we introduce an unsupervised temporal lighting model that learns the lighting cycle consistency from many real-world videos without any ground truth. In inference time, our temporal lighting module is combined with the diffusion models through the spatio-temporal feature blending algorithms without extra training; and we apply a new guided refinement as a post-processing to preserve the high-frequency details from the input image. In the experiments, Comprehensive Relighting shows a strong generalizability and lighting temporal coherence, outperforming existing image-based human relighting and harmonization methods.

GroundingBooth: Grounding Text-to-Image Customization

Recent approaches in text-to-image customization have primarily focused on preserving the identity of the input subject, but often fail to control the spatial location and size of objects. We introduce GroundingBooth, which achieves zero-shot, instance-level spatial grounding on both foreground subjects and background objects in the text-to-image customization task. Our proposed grounding module and subject-grounded cross-attention layer enable the creation of personalized images with accurate layout alignment, identity preservation, and strong text-image coherence. In addition, our model seamlessly supports personalization with multiple subjects. Our model shows strong results in both layout-guided image synthesis and text-to-image customization tasks. Augmenting Image Annotation: A Human-LMM Collaborative Framework for Efficient Object Selection and Label Generation

Traditional image annotation tasks rely heavily on human effort for object selection and label assignment, making the process time-consuming and prone to decreased efficiency as annotators experience fatigue after extensive work. This paper introduces a novel framework that leverages the visual understanding capabilities of large multimodal models (LMMs), particularly GPT, to assist annotation workflows. In our proposed approach, human annotators focus on selecting objects via bounding boxes, while the LMM autonomously generates relevant labels. This human-AI collaborative framework enhances annotation efficiency by reducing the cognitive and time burden on human annotators. By analyzing the system's performance across various types of annotation tasks, we demonstrate its ability to generalize to tasks such as object recognition, scene description, and fine-grained categorization. Our proposed framework highlights the potential of this approach to redefine annotation workflows, offering a scalable and efficient solution for large-scale data labeling in computer vision. Finally, we discuss how integrating LMMs into the annotation pipeline can advance bidirectional human-AI alignment, as well as the challenges of alleviating the "endless annotation" burden in the face of information overload by shifting some of the work to AI.

Diffusion Model-Based Image Editing: A Survey

Denoising diffusion models have emerged as a powerful tool for various image generation and editing tasks, facilitating the synthesis of visual content in an unconditional or input-conditional manner. The core idea behind them is learning to reverse the process of gradually adding noise to images, allowing them to generate high-quality samples from a complex distribution. In this survey, we provide an exhaustive overview of existing methods using diffusion models for image editing, covering both theoretical and practical aspects in the field. We delve into a thorough analysis and categorization of these works from multiple perspectives, including learning strategies, user-input conditions, and the array of specific editing tasks that can be accomplished. In addition, we pay special attention to image inpainting and outpainting, and explore both earlier traditional context-driven and current multimodal conditional methods, offering a comprehensive analysis of their methodologies. To further evaluate the performance of text-guided image editing algorithms, we propose a systematic benchmark, EditEval, featuring an innovative metric, LMM Score. Finally, we address current limitations and envision some potential directions for future research. One-Step Diffusion Model for Image Motion-Deblurring

Currently, methods for single-image deblurring based on CNNs and transformers have demonstrated promising performance. However, these methods often suffer from perceptual limitations, poor generalization ability, and struggle with heavy or complex blur. While diffusion-based methods can partially address these shortcomings, their multi-step denoising process limits their practical usage. In this paper, we conduct an in-depth exploration of diffusion models in deblurring and propose a one-step diffusion model for deblurring (OSDD), a novel framework that reduces the denoising process to a single step, significantly improving inference efficiency while maintaining high fidelity. To tackle fidelity loss in diffusion models, we introduce an enhanced variational autoencoder (eVAE), which improves structural restoration. Additionally, we construct a high-quality synthetic deblurring dataset to mitigate perceptual collapse and design a dynamic dual-adapter (DDA) to enhance perceptual quality while preserving fidelity. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our method achieves strong performance on both full and no-reference metrics. Our code and pre-trained model will be publicly available at https://github.com/xyLiu339/OSDD.

Enhancing the Accuracy and Comprehensibility in Architectural Tactics Detection via Small Model-Augmented Prompt Engineering

Architectural tactics (ATs), as the concrete implementation of architectural decisions in code, address non-functional requirements of software systems. Due to the implicit nature of architectural knowledge in code implementation, developers may risk inadvertently altering or removing these tactics during code modifications or optimizations. Such unintended changes can trigger architectural erosion, gradually undermining the system's original design. While many researchers have proposed machine learning-based methods to improve the accuracy of detecting ATs in code, the black-box nature and the required architectural domain knowledge pose significant challenges for developers in verifying the results. Effective verification requires not only accurate detection results but also interpretable explanations that enhance their comprehensibility. However, this is a critical gap in current research. Large language models (LLMs) can generate easily interpretable ATs detection comments if they have domain knowledge. Fine-tuning LLMs to acquire domain knowledge faces challenges such as catastrophic forgetting and hardware constraints. Thus, we propose Prmt4TD, a small model-augmented prompting framework to enhance the accuracy and comprehensibility of ATs detection. Combining fine-tuned small models with In-Context Learning can also reduce fine-tuning costs while equipping the LLM with additional domain knowledge. Prmt4TD can leverage the remarkable processing and reasoning capabilities of LLMs to generate easily interpretable ATs detection results. Our evaluation results demonstrate that Prmt4TD achieves accuracy (\emph{F1-score}) improvement of 13\%-23\% on the ATs balanced dataset and enhances the comprehensibility of the detection results.

Beyond Visual Perception: Insights from Smartphone Interaction of Visually Impaired Users with Large Multimodal Models

Large multimodal models (LMMs) have enabled new AI-powered applications that help people with visual impairments (PVI) receive natural language descriptions of their surroundings through audible text. We investigated how this emerging paradigm of visual assistance transforms how PVI perform and manage their daily tasks. Moving beyond usability assessments, we examined both the capabilities and limitations of LMM-based tools in personal and social contexts, while exploring design implications for their future development. Through interviews with 14 visually impaired users of Be My AI (an LMM-based application) and analysis of its image descriptions from both study participants and social media platforms, we identified two key limitations. First, these systems' context awareness suffers from hallucinations and misinterpretations of social contexts, styles, and human identities. Second, their intent-oriented capabilities often fail to grasp and act on users' intentions. Based on these findings, we propose design strategies for improving both human-AI and AI-AI interactions, contributing to the development of more effective, interactive, and personalized assistive technologies.

Observation of a $Pbca$ phase and robust metallicity in $\rm{RuO_2}$ under pressure

$\rm{RuO_2}$ stands as a quintessential rutile-type compound under ambient conditions, with its structural exploration under pressure bearing significant implications for both phase transition investigations and Earth science. Nonetheless, the precise phase transition sequence remains a debate. In this study, we disclose the emergence of the $Pbca$ phase alongside the enduring metallic character of $\rm{RuO_2}$ under megabar pressure. Employing state-of-the-art synchrotron X-ray diffraction, our observations delineate a phase transition trajectory progressing through rutile, $\rm{CaCl_2}$, and ultimately $Pbca$ phases. Notably, the $Pbca$ phase manifests immediately just after the rutile-$\rm{CaCl_2}$ transition, confining a narrow pressure regime for the pure $\rm{CaCl_2}$-type phase. Within the pressure range of 15.5 to 35.0 GPa, a coexistence of the $\rm{CaCl_2}$-type and $Pbca$ phases is observed, transforming to a sole presence of the $Pbca$ phase beyond 35.0 GPa. Electrical transport measurements conducted on both single crystal and powder samples confirm the enduring metallic conductivity of $\rm{RuO_2}$, persisting up to at least $\sim$120 GPa, albeit exhibiting a diminished conductivity at ultrahigh pressures due to a reduction in electronic density of states at the Fermi level. This study furnishes compelling evidence for the presence of the $Pbca$ phase across a broad pressure range, diverging from the previously widely acknowledged $Pa\bar{3}$ phase, thereby offering crucial insights into phase transition phenomena in other metal dioxides and advancing our comprehension of electronic behaviors within 4d and 5d electron systems.

Multitwine: Multi-Object Compositing with Text and Layout Control

We introduce the first generative model capable of simultaneous multi-object compositing, guided by both text and layout. Our model allows for the addition of multiple objects within a scene, capturing a range of interactions from simple positional relations (e.g., next to, in front of) to complex actions requiring reposing (e.g., hugging, playing guitar). When an interaction implies additional props, like `taking a selfie', our model autonomously generates these supporting objects. By jointly training for compositing and subject-driven generation, also known as customization, we achieve a more balanced integration of textual and visual inputs for text-driven object compositing. As a result, we obtain a versatile model with state-of-the-art performance in both tasks. We further present a data generation pipeline leveraging visual and language models to effortlessly synthesize multimodal, aligned training data.

Dynamic Graph Unlearning: A General and Efficient Post-Processing Method via Gradient Transformation

Dynamic graph neural networks (DGNNs) have emerged and been widely deployed in various web applications (e.g., Reddit) to serve users (e.g., personalized content delivery) due to their remarkable ability to learn from complex and dynamic user interaction data. Despite benefiting from high-quality services, users have raised privacy concerns, such as misuse of personal data (e.g., dynamic user-user/item interaction) for model training, requiring DGNNs to ``forget'' their data to meet AI governance laws (e.g., the ``right to be forgotten'' in GDPR). However, current static graph unlearning studies cannot \textit{unlearn dynamic graph elements} and exhibit limitations such as the model-specific design or reliance on pre-processing, which disenable their practicability in dynamic graph unlearning. To this end, we study the dynamic graph unlearning for the first time and propose an effective, efficient, general, and post-processing method to implement DGNN unlearning. Specifically, we first formulate dynamic graph unlearning in the context of continuous-time dynamic graphs, and then propose a method called Gradient Transformation that directly maps the unlearning request to the desired parameter update. Comprehensive evaluations on six real-world datasets and state-of-the-art DGNN backbones demonstrate its effectiveness (e.g., limited drop or obvious improvement in utility) and efficiency (e.g., 7.23$\times$ speed-up) advantages. Additionally, our method has the potential to handle future unlearning requests with significant performance gains (e.g., 32.59$\times$ speed-up).

Ferroelectricity in undoped HfO2 down to one-unit-cell on Si substrate

Hafnium oxide (HfO2), particularly at low-dimensional scales, exhibits extensive promising applications in ultrahigh density devices like low-power logic and non-volatile memory devices due to its compatibility with current semiconductor technology1-5. However, achieving ferroelectricity (FE) at ultimate scale especially in undoped HfO2 remains challenging as the non-centrosymmetric FE phase, so-called O-III (space group: Pca21) is metastable and FE has a strong tendency of depolarization with the decrease in thickness6. Up to now, this phase has usually stabilized via doping with other elements7-9. But the minimum film thickness is still limited to 1 nm, about 2-unit-cell, to keep FE8. Thinner and undoped films, conducive to further miniature device size and avoid contamination during deposition process, have been a challenge to fabricate on Si substrates. Herein, we report the robust FE observed in undoped HfO2 ultrathin films directly grown on Si substrate via atomic layer deposition (ALD) and post-heat treat in vacuum. The so-fabricated ferroelectric O-III phase contains about 4.48 at% oxygen vacancy, is robust even monoclinic phase (space group: P21/c) coexists. The spontaneous and switchable polarization is remarkably stable, still surviving even in films down to 0.5 nm (one-unit-cell). Our results show the robust FE O-III phase can be obtained in films down to one-unit-cell in thickness on Si, providing a practical way to fabricating this important material in thickness limit.

TransPixeler: Advancing Text-to-Video Generation with Transparency

Text-to-video generative models have made significant strides, enabling diverse applications in entertainment, advertising, and education. However, generating RGBA video, which includes alpha channels for transparency, remains a challenge due to limited datasets and the difficulty of adapting existing models. Alpha channels are crucial for visual effects (VFX), allowing transparent elements like smoke and reflections to blend seamlessly into scenes. We introduce TransPixeler, a method to extend pretrained video models for RGBA generation while retaining the original RGB capabilities. TransPixar leverages a diffusion transformer (DiT) architecture, incorporating alpha-specific tokens and using LoRA-based fine-tuning to jointly generate RGB and alpha channels with high consistency. By optimizing attention mechanisms, TransPixar preserves the strengths of the original RGB model and achieves strong alignment between RGB and alpha channels despite limited training data. Our approach effectively generates diverse and consistent RGBA videos, advancing the possibilities for VFX and interactive content creation.

Topological eigenvalues braiding and quantum state transfer near a third-order exceptional point

Non-Hermitian systems exhibit a variety of unique features rooted in the presence of exceptional points (EP). The distinct topological structure in the proximity of an EP gives rise to counterintuitive behaviors absent in Hermitian systems, which emerge after encircling the EP either quasistatically or dynamically. However, experimental exploration of EP encirclement in quantum systems, particularly those involving high-order EPs, remains challenging due to the difficulty of coherently controlling more degrees of freedom. In this work, we experimentally investigate the eigenvalues braiding and state transfer arising from the encirclement of EP in a three-dimensional non-Hermitian quantum system using superconducting circuits. We characterize the second- and third-order EPs through the coalescence of eigenvalues. Then we reveal the topological structure near the EP3 by quasistatically encircling it along various paths with three independent parameters, which yields the eigenvalues braiding described by the braid group $B_3$. Additionally, we observe chiral state transfer between three eigenstates under a fast driving scheme when no EPs are enclosed, while time-symmetric behavior occurs when at least one EP is encircled. Our findings offer insights into understanding non-Hermitian topological structures and the manipulation of quantum states through dynamic operations.

Text2Relight: Creative Portrait Relighting with Text Guidance

We present a lighting-aware image editing pipeline that, given a portrait image and a text prompt, performs single image relighting. Our model modifies the lighting and color of both the foreground and background to align with the provided text description. The unbounded nature in creativeness of a text allows us to describe the lighting of a scene with any sensory features including temperature, emotion, smell, time, and so on. However, the modeling of such mapping between the unbounded text and lighting is extremely challenging due to the lack of dataset where there exists no scalable data that provides large pairs of text and relighting, and therefore, current text-driven image editing models does not generalize to lighting-specific use cases. We overcome this problem by introducing a novel data synthesis pipeline: First, diverse and creative text prompts that describe the scenes with various lighting are automatically generated under a crafted hierarchy using a large language model (*e.g.,* ChatGPT). A text-guided image generation model creates a lighting image that best matches the text. As a condition of the lighting images, we perform image-based relighting for both foreground and background using a single portrait image or a set of OLAT (One-Light-at-A-Time) images captured from lightstage system. Particularly for the background relighting, we represent the lighting image as a set of point lights and transfer them to other background images. A generative diffusion model learns the synthesized large-scale data with auxiliary task augmentation (*e.g.,* portrait delighting and light positioning) to correlate the latent text and lighting distribution for text-guided portrait relighting.

UniReal: Universal Image Generation and Editing via Learning Real-world Dynamics

We introduce UniReal, a unified framework designed to address various image generation and editing tasks. Existing solutions often vary by tasks, yet share fundamental principles: preserving consistency between inputs and outputs while capturing visual variations. Inspired by recent video generation models that effectively balance consistency and variation across frames, we propose a unifying approach that treats image-level tasks as discontinuous video generation. Specifically, we treat varying numbers of input and output images as frames, enabling seamless support for tasks such as image generation, editing, customization, composition, etc. Although designed for image-level tasks, we leverage videos as a scalable source for universal supervision. UniReal learns world dynamics from large-scale videos, demonstrating advanced capability in handling shadows, reflections, pose variation, and object interaction, while also exhibiting emergent capability for novel applications.

Refine-by-Align: Reference-Guided Artifacts Refinement through Semantic Alignment

Personalized image generation has emerged from the recent advancements in generative models. However, these generated personalized images often suffer from localized artifacts such as incorrect logos, reducing fidelity and fine-grained identity details of the generated results. Furthermore, there is little prior work tackling this problem. To help improve these identity details in the personalized image generation, we introduce a new task: reference-guided artifacts refinement. We present Refine-by-Align, a first-of-its-kind model that employs a diffusion-based framework to address this challenge. Our model consists of two stages: Alignment Stage and Refinement Stage, which share weights of a unified neural network model. Given a generated image, a masked artifact region, and a reference image, the alignment stage identifies and extracts the corresponding regional features in the reference, which are then used by the refinement stage to fix the artifacts. Our model-agnostic pipeline requires no test-time tuning or optimization. It automatically enhances image fidelity and reference identity in the generated image, generalizing well to existing models on various tasks including but not limited to customization, generative compositing, view synthesis, and virtual try-on. Extensive experiments and comparisons demonstrate that our pipeline greatly pushes the boundary of fine details in the image synthesis models.
