Effective Study of Superconducting Quantum Circuits

We apply the momentous quantum mechanics formalism to the non-perturbative study of superconducting circuits in the transmon regime, deriving effective equations of motion for the bare Josephson junction (JJ), the cavity--JJ system, and a dissipative resonator. A Gaussian closure on the hierarchy of quantum moments resums the full cosine nonlinearity into the closed-form effective Hamiltonian $\tfrac{1}{2}[V(ϕ+ϕ_s)+V(ϕ-ϕ_s)]$, which is non-perturbative and preserves the periodicity and boundedness of the Josephson potential at all phase amplitudes; the standard Kerr (Duffing) approximation is recovered as a special case. We derive the quantum-dressed frequency $ω_{\rm eff}=Ω_p\sqrt{\cos(ϕ_{\rm zpf}/ϕ_0)}$, and benchmark the effective dynamics against exact Mathieu-function diagonalization, with the quantum width $G^{2,0}(t)$ providing the most sensitive diagnostic of the closure's validity and marks the boundary of the Gaussian approximation more sharply than $\langle\hatϕ\rangle(t)$ does. We compare the Caldirola--Kanai, Bateman, and Lindblad descriptions: the Bateman dynamics, quantized with a switched symplectic structure, preserves the Heisenberg bound, admits exact closed-form moment solutions, and reproduces the Lindblad benchmark for weak damping, i.e., within the analytic error bound $(λ/ω_1)^2\,ϕ_{\rm zpf}^2$.

Quantum Backreaction in Effective Brans-Dicke Bianchi I Cosmology

We investigate the effective quantum evolution of the Bianchi type I cosmological model within the Brans-Dicke framework, using an effective Hamiltonian approach including expectation values, quantum dispersions, and cross-correlation terms between different degrees of freedom. We show that cross-correlation terms are essential for a physically consistent effective dynamics: neglecting them leads to spurious divergences, violation of the Heisenberg uncertainty relations, and unphysical behavior. For w < -3/2, where bouncing solutions exist already classically, quantum backreaction smooths the bounce, suppresses shear anisotropy, and the energy density peak is slightly enhanced and remains well-behaved, in contrast to the unphysical divergences that arise when cross-correlations are neglected. For the conformally invariant case w = -3/2, quantum corrections accelerate the approach to de Sitter expansion while enhancing shear anisotropy. When correlations are included, small-amplitude damped oscillations appear shortly after the bounce, which we interpret as quantum remnant effects encoding Planck scale correlation information between gravitational and scalar field degrees of freedom. The effective energy density remains finite for both regimes. Our results demonstrate that cross-correlations carry crucial quantum information influencing cosmological dynamics, with implications for quantum gravity phenomenology, inflationary model building, and primordial observational signatures.

Effective Description of the Quantum Damped Harmonic Oscillator: Revisiting the Bateman Dual System

In this work, we present a quantization scheme for the damped harmonic oscillator (QDHO) using a framework known as momentous quantum mechanics. Our method relies on a semiclassical dynamical system derived from an extended classical Hamiltonian, where the phase-space variables are given by expectation values of observables and quantum dispersions. The significance of our study lies in its potential to serve as a foundational basis for the effective description of open quantum systems (OQS), and the description of dissipation in quantum mechanics. By employing the Bateman's dual model as the initial classical framework, and undergoing quantization, we demonstrate that our description aligns exceptionally well with the well-established Lindblad master equation. Furthermore, our approach exhibits robustness and broad applicability in the context of OQS, rendering it a versatile and powerful tool for studying various phenomena. We intend to contribute to the advancement of quantum physics by providing an effective means of quantizing the damped harmonic oscillator and shedding light on the behavior of open quantum systems.
