Overcoming the spatial order barrier for nonlinear SPDEs with additive space-time white noise

We introduce a fully discrete numerical scheme for semilinear SPDEs with additive space-time white noise that overcomes the previous order barrier for the spatial convergence rate. The scheme achieves a strong convergence rate of $M^{-1+\epsilon}$ in time and $N^{-3/2+\epsilon}$ in space for any $\epsilon>0$, where $M^{-1}$ and $N^{-1}$ are the temporal, respectively the spatial, meshsizes. This substantially improves the standard spatial error bounds of order $N^{-1/2}$ in the literature.

Talagrand-type transport inequalities for path spaces over Carnot groups

We consider Talagrand-type transportation inequalities for the law of Brownian motion on Carnot groups. An important example is the lift of standard Brownian motion to the Brownian rough path. We present a direct proof on enhanced path space, which also yields equality when restricting to adapted couplings in the transport problem. Moreover, we prove a Talagrand inequality for the heat kernel measure on Carnot groups and deduce the inequality for the law of Brownian motion on Carnot groups via a bottom-up argument. Our study of this enhanced Wiener measure contributes to a longstanding programme to extend key properties of Wiener measure to the non-commutative setting of the enhanced Wiener measure, which is of central importance in Lyons' rough path theory. With a non-commutative sub-Riemannian state space, we observe phenomena that differ from the Euclidean case. In particular, while a top-down projection argument recovers Talagrand's inequality on Euclidean space from the corresponding inequality on the path space, such a projection argument breaks down in the Carnot group setting. We further study a Riemannian approximation of the Heisenberg group, in which case the failure of the top-down projection can be partially overcome. Finally, we show that the cost function used in the Talagrand inequality is a natural choice, in that it arises as a limit of discretised costs in the sense of $\Gamma$-convergence.

Higher order approximation of nonlinear SPDEs with additive space-time white noise

We consider strong approximations of $1+1$-dimensional stochastic PDEs driven by additive space-time white noise. It has been long proposed (Davie-Gaines '01, Jentzen-Kloeden '08), as well as observed in simulations, that approximation schemes based on samples from the stochastic convolution, rather than from increments of the underlying Wiener processes, should achieve significantly higher convergence rates with respect to the temporal timestep. The present paper proves this. For a large class of nonlinearities, with possibly superlinear growth, a temporal rate of (almost) $1$ is proven, a major improvement on the rate $1/4$ that is known to be optimal for schemes based on Wiener increments. The spatial rate remains (almost) $1/2$ as it is standard in the literature.

Periodic homogenization for singular Lévy SDEs

We generalize the theory of periodic homogenization for multidimensional SDEs with additive Brownian and stable Lévy noise for $α\in (1,2)$ to the setting of singular periodic Besov drifts of regularity $β\in ((2-2α)/3,0)$ beyond the Young regime. For the martingale solution from Kremp, Perkowski '22 projected onto the torus, we prove existence and uniqueness of an invariant probability measure with strictly positive Lebesgue density exploiting the theory of paracontrolled distributions and a strict maximum principle for the singular Fokker-Planck equation. Furthermore, we prove a spectral gap on the semigroup of the diffusion and solve the Poisson equation with singular right-hand side equal to the drift itself. In the CLT scaling, we prove that the diffusion converges in law to a Brownian motion with constant diffusion matrix. In the pure stable noise case, we rescale in the scaling that the stable process respects and show convergence to the stable process itself. We conclude on the periodic homogenization result for the singular parabolic PDE.

Rough weak solutions for singular Lévy SDEs

We introduce a weak solution concept (called "rough weak solutions") for singular SDEs with additive alpha-stable Lévy noise (including the Brownian noise case) and prove its equivalence to martingale solutions from Kremp, Perkowski '22 in the Young and rough regularity regime. In the rough regime this leads to the construction of certain rough stochastic sewing integrals involved. For rough weak solutions, we can then prove a generalized Itô formula. Furthermore, we show that canonical weak solutions are wellposed in the Young case (and equivalent to rough weak solutions), while ill-posed in the rough case. For the latter, we construct a counterexample for uniqueness in law.

Fractional Kolmogorov equations with singular paracontrolled terminal conditions

We consider backward fractional Kolmogorov equations with singular Besov drift of low regularity and singular terminal conditions. To treat drifts beyond the socalled Young regime, we assume an enhancement assumption on the drift and consider paracontrolled terminal conditions. Our work generalizes previous results on the equation from Cannizzaro, Chouk 2018 and Kremp, Perkowski 2022 to the case of singular paracontrolled terminal conditions and simultaneously treats singular and non-singular data in one concise solution theory. We introduce a paracontrolled solution space, that implies parabolic time and space regularity on the solution without introducing the socalled "modified paraproduct" from Gubinelli, Perkowski 2017. The tools developed in this article apply for general linear PDEs that can be tackled with the paracontrolled ansatz.

Weak error analysis for a nonlinear SPDE approximation of the Dean-Kawasaki equation

We consider a nonlinear SPDE approximation of the Dean-Kawasaki equation for independent particles. Our approximation satisfies the physical constraints of the particle system, i.e. its solution is a probability measure for all times (preservation of positivity and mass conservation). Using a duality argument, we prove that the weak error between particle system and nonlinear SPDE is of the order $N^{-1-1/(d/2+1)}\log (N)$. Along the way we show well-posedness, a comparison principle and an entropy estimate for a class of nonlinear regularized Dean-Kawasaki equations with It\^o noise. Rough homogenization for Langevin dynamics on fluctuating Helfrich surfaces

In this paper, we study different scaling rough path limit regimes in space and time for the Langevin dynamics on a quasi-planar fluctuating Helfrich surfaces. The convergence results of the processes were already proven in the work by Duncan, Elliott, Pavliotis and Stuart (2015). We extend this work by proving the convergence of the Itô and Stratonovich rough path lift. For the rough path limit, there appears, typically, an area correction term to the Itô iterated integrals, and in certain regimes to the Stratonovich iterated integrals. This yields additional information on the homogenization limit and enables to conclude on homogenization results for diffusions driven by the Brownian motion on the membrane using the continuity of the Itô-Lyons map in rough paths topology.

Multidimensional SDE with distributional drift and L\'evy noise

We solve multidimensional SDEs with distributional drift driven by symmetric, $\alpha$-stable L\'evy processes for $\alpha\in (1,2]$ by studying the associated (singular) martingale problem and by solving the Kolmogorov backward equation. We allow for drifts of regularity $(2-2\alpha)/3$, and in particular we go beyond the by now well understood "Young regime", where the drift must have better regularity than $(1-\alpha)/2$. The analysis of the Kolmogorov backward equation in the low regularity regime is based on paracontrolled distributions. As an application of our results we construct a Brox diffusion with L\'evy noise.
