QV-PIC: Query-Aware Visual Position-Independent Caching for Efficient RAG Serving

Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) repeatedly prefills identical text chunks across queries, incurring redundant computations. Position-Independent Caching (PIC) mitigates it by reusing precomputed Key-Value (KV) across positions, but its efficiency is constrained by the large volume of text tokens. Rendering text chunks as images can compress the text into fewer visual tokens, but the rendered-image PIC suffers more severe quality degradation than the text PIC. This representation-specific gap primarily arises from contextual mismatches across independently compiled caches and the loss of fine-grained textual evidence during visual compression. Existing PIC repair methods mainly address the former through selective recomputation, but they incur online computation and cannot recover lost textual details. We propose QV-PIC, a query-aware dual-resolution PIC reuse framework guided by model-native templates. Offline, QV-PIC compiles visual caches under the model's native chat-template prefix, improving PIC quality without online recomputation. Online, it preserves global context with low resolution and restores fine-grained textual evidence within a high-resolution budget by cumulative query relevance scores, retaining the efficiency benefit of visual compression. Across six tasks, QV-PIC improves average F1 by 21.6 points over vanilla rendered-image PIC, closes the gap to vanilla text PIC, and surpasses optimized text PIC by 2.58 F1 while reducing TTFT by 17.2\%. Relative to full prefill, it cuts TTFT by 83.8%.

Beyond Retrieval: Learning Compact User Representations for Scalable LLM Personalization

Personalizing large language models requires adapting model behavior to individual users while preserving robustness and deployment-scale efficiency. Existing approaches typically personalize LLMs either at the input level, by retrieving user histories or constructing profile prompts, or at the parameter level, by maintaining user-specific parameter-efficient modules. The former makes personalization sensitive to retrieval quality and prompt design, whereas the latter incurs storage and maintenance costs that grow with the user population. To address these limitations, we propose TAP-PER (Temporal Attentive Prefix for PERsonalization), a prefix-based framework that encodes user preferences as learnable representations, avoiding the serialization of user histories into prompts and replacing heavy per-user adapters with lightweight user-state prefix embeddings. Inspired by personalized recommendation systems, TAP-PER decomposes user modeling into user-state and query-conditioned components, and incorporates temporal signals to capture the evolving nature of user interests. Experiments on six LaMP tasks show that TAP-PER consistently outperforms prompt-based and model-based baselines across classification, rating, and generation settings. Moreover, TAP-PER uses 130x fewer per-user parameters than OPPU and roughly half the total parameter footprint of PER-PCS at the 1,000-user scale, demonstrating scalable personalization without prompt-serialized histories or heavy per-user adapters.

Token Predictors Are Not Planners: Building Physically Grounded Causal Reasoners

Current benchmarks for embodied vision-language planning often favor linguistic next-token prediction over physically grounded next-state reasoning. This rewards models that mimic statistical language priors rather than track causal dependencies, reducing physical planning to shallow sequence modeling. We argue that reliable physical autonomy requires a shift from linguistically grounded token prediction toward physically grounded causal reasoning. To this end, we introduce Causal-Plan-Bench, a high-fidelity diagnostic suite curated through multi-stage verification to evaluate embodied planning across four causal dimensions. We also construct Causal-Plan-1M, a million-scale corpus of explicit reasoning traces produced by a four-stage annotation pipeline over egocentric videos. Extensive evaluation shows that leading models still struggle to demonstrate genuine physical agency, with Gemini 3 Pro reaching only 38.18 on our benchmark. In contrast, our training recipe enables Causal Planner, built on Qwen3-VL-8B, to internalize physical logic for more accurate next-state estimation. The model achieves strong in-domain performance and cross-benchmark generalization, and reveals a Causal Scaling Law: scaling causal training data to one million instances yields a 36.3% relative gain, from 33.22 to 45.28. Overall, our work provides a concrete step toward turning agents from superficial token predictors into physically grounded causal reasoners.
