Parameter estimation for an expanding universe

We study the parameter estimation for excitations of Dirac fields in the expanding Robertson-Walker universe. We employ quantum metrology techniques to demonstrate the possibility for high precision estimation for the volume rate of the expanding universe. We show that the optimal precision of the estimation depends sensitively on the dimensionless mass $\tilde{m}$ and dimensionless momentum $\tilde{k}$ of the Dirac particles. The optimal precision for the ratio estimation peaks at some finite dimensionless mass $\tilde{m}$ and momentum $\tilde{k}$. We find that the precision of the estimation can be improved by choosing the probe state as an eigenvector of the hamiltonian. This occurs because the largest quantum Fisher information is obtained by performing projective measurements implemented by the projectors onto the eigenvectors of specific probe states.

Relativistic Quantum Metrology in Open System Dynamics

Quantum metrology studies the ultimate limit of precision in estimating a physical quantity if quantum strategies are exploited. Here we investigate the evolution of a two-level atom as a detector which interacts with a massless scalar field using the master equation approach for open quantum system. We employ local quantum estimation theory to estimate the Unruh temperature when probed by a uniformly accelerated detector in the Minkowski vacuum. In particular, we evaluate the Fisher information (FI) for population measurement, maximize its value over all possible detector preparations and evolution times, and compare its behavior with that of the quantum Fisher information (QFI). We find that the optimal precision of estimation is achieved when the detector evolves for a long enough time. Furthermore, we find that in this case the FI for population measurement is independent of initial preparations of the detector and is exactly equal to the QFI, which means that population measurement is optimal. This result demonstrates that the achievement of the ultimate bound of precision imposed by quantum mechanics is possible. Finally, we note that the same configuration is also available to the maximum of the QFI itself.

Enhancing entanglement trapping by weak measurement and quantum measurement reversal

In this paper, we propose a scheme to enhance trapping of entanglement of two qubits in the environment of a photonic band gap material. Our entanglement trapping promotion scheme makes use of combined weak measurements and quantum measurement reversals. The optimal promotion of entanglement trapping can be acquired with a reasonable finite success probability by adjusting measurement strengths.

Maximal Holevo quantity based on weak measurements

The Holevo bound is a keystone in many applications of quantum information theory. We propose "weak maximal Holevo quantity" with weak measurements as the generalization of the standard Holevo quantity which is defined as the optimal projective measurements. The scenarios that weak measurements is necessary are that only the weak measurements can be performed because for example the system is macroscopic or that one intentionally tries to do so such that the disturbance on the measured system can be controlled for example in quantum key distribution protocols. We evaluate systematically the weak maximal Holevo quantity for Bell-diagonal states and find a series of results. Furthermore, we find that weak measurements can be realized by noise and project measurements.

Topological Characters in Fe(Te$_{1-x}$Se$_x$) thin films

We investigate topological properties in the Fe(Te,Se) thin films. We find that the single layer FeTe$_{1-x}$Se$_x$ has nontrivial $Z_2$ topological invariance which originates from the parity exchange at $Γ$ point of Brillouin zone. The nontrivial topology is mainly controlled by the Te(Se) height. Adjusting the height, which can be realized as function of $x$ in FeTe$_{1-x}$Se$_x$, can drive a topological phase transition. In a bulk material, the two dimensional $Z_2$ topology invariance is extended to a strong three-dimensional one. In a thin film, we predict that the topological invariance oscillates with the number of layers. The results can also be applied to iron-pnictides. Our research establishes FeTe$_{1-x}$Se$_x$ as a unique system to integrate high T$_c$ superconductivity and topological properties in a single electronic structure.

Classical-driving-assisted quantum speed-up

We propose a method of accelerating the speed of evolution of an open system by an external classical driving field for a qubit in a zero-temperature structured reservoir. It is shown that, with a judicious choice of the driving strength of the applied classical field, a speed-up evolution of an open system can be achieved in both the weak system-environment couplings and the strong system-environment couplings. By considering the relationship between non-Makovianity of environment and the classical field, we can drive the open system from the Markovian to the non-Markovian regime by manipulating the driving strength of classical field. That is the intrinsic physical reason that the classical field may induce the speed-up process. In addition, the roles of this classical field on the variation of quantum evolution speed in the whole decoherence process is discussed.

Effect of Local Channels on Quantum Steering Ellipsoids

The effect of a local trace-preserving single-qubit channel on a two-qubit state is investigated in the picture of the quantum steering ellipsoids (QSE). The phenomenon of locally increased quantum correlation is visualized in this picture. We strictly prove that a $B$-side two-qubit discordant state can be locally prepared from a classical state by a trace-preserving channel on qubit $B$ if and only if its QSE of $B$ is a non-radial line segment. For states with higer-dimensional QSEs, the phenomenon of locally increased quantum correlation generally happens when the shape of the QSE is like a baguette. Based on this observation, we find a class of entangled states whose quantum discord can be increased by the local amplitude damping channel. Further, We find that the local quantum channel does not increase the size of QSEs of either qubit $A$ or qubit $B$, for the needle-shape QSE states, as well as the Bell diagonal states with higher-dimensional QSE.

Entropic uncertainty relations for multiple measurements

We present the entropic uncertainty relations for multiple measurement settings in quantum mechanics. Those uncertainty relations are obtained for both cases with and without the presence of quantum memory. They take concise forms which can be proven in a unified method and easy to calculate. Our results recover the well known entropic uncertainty relations for two observables, which show the uncertainties about the outcomes of two incompatible measurements. Those uncertainty relations are applicable in both foundations of quantum theory and the security of many quantum cryptographic protocols.

Probing Planckian physics in de Sitter space with quantum correlations

We study the quantum correlation and quantum communication channel of both free scalar and fermionic fields in de Sitter space, while the Planckian modification presented by the choice of a particular $α$-vacuum has been considered. We show that the occurrence of degradation of quantum entanglement between field modes for an inertial observer in curved space, due to the radiation associated with its cosmological horizon. Comparing with standard Bunch-Davies choice, the possible Planckian physics causes some extra decrement on the quantum correlation, which may provide the means to detect quantum gravitational effects via quantum information methodology in future. Beyond single-mode approximation, we construct proper Unruh modes admitting general $α-$vacua, and find a convergent feature of both bosonic and fermionic entanglements. In particular, we show that the convergent points of fermionic entanglement negativity are dependent on the choice of $α$. Moreover, an one-to-one correspondence between convergent points $H_c$ of negativity and zeros of quantum capacity of quantum channels in de Sitter space has been proved.

Operation triggered quantum clock synchronization

We present a novel quantum clock synchronization(QCS) scheme of multiple parties which uses operation as the trigger to start the evolution of the initial state, where existing QCS protocols use measurement to start the evolution. Since the trigger is the unitary operation, we have protected entanglement of remote nodes, and after concentration of the qubits to the center node, general measurements of the total state is possible. We show that our protocol links the QCS problem to a multiple phase estimation problem. We use the Fisher information to give the precision of the synchronization, and explicitly show that the Heisenberg scale of synchronization is achieved in the two party case. We also show that our protocol is very efficient in synchronizing a clock to the average time of other clocks. The precision has an $O(\sqrt{d})$ advantage of the precision of the average time's estimation over the best possible strategy using measurement triggered QCS. The precision is also Heisenberg scale.

Quantum Metrological Bounds for Vector Parameter

Precise measurement is crucial to science and technology. However, the rule of nature imposes various restrictions on the precision that can be achieved depending on specific methods of measurement. In particular, quantum mechanics poses the ultimate limit on precision which can only be approached but never be violated. Depending on analytic techniques, these bounds may not be unique. Here, in view of prior information, we investigate systematically the precision bounds of the total mean-square error of vector parameter estimation which contains $d$ independent parameters. From quantum Ziv-Zakai error bounds, we derive two kinds of quantum metrological bounds for vector parameter estimation, both of which should be satisfied. By these bounds, we show that a constant advantage can be expected via simultaneous estimation strategy over the optimal individual estimation strategy, which solves a long-standing problem. A general framework for obtaining the lower bounds in a noisy system is also proposed.

Quantum correlation induced by the average distance between the reduced states

A new quantum correlation in terms of the average distance between the reduced state and the $i$-th output reduced states under local von Neumann measurements is proposed. It is shown that only the product states do not contain this quantum correlation and thus it is different from both the quantum discord (QD) [Phys. Rev. Lett. \textbf{88}, 017901 (2001)] and the measurement-induced nonlocality (MIN) [Phys. Rev. Lett. \textbf{106}, 120401(2011)]. For pure states, it is twice of the quantity MIN, and is smaller than QD and entanglement of formation (EOF). A general analytical formula is given and a lower bound for the two qubits case is obtained. Furthermore, we compare it with EOF and QD through the Werner state and the isotropic state respectively.

$g$-wave Pairing in BiS$_2$ Superconductors

Recent angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy(ARPES) experiments have suggested that BiS$_2$ based superconductors are at very low electron doping. Using random phase approximation(RPA) and functional renormalization group(FRG) methods, we find that $g$-wave pairing symmetry belonging to A$_{2g}$ irreducible representation is dominant at electron doping $x<0.25$. The pairing symmetry is determined by inter-pocket nesting and orbital characters on the Fermi surfaces and is robust in a two-orbital model including both Hund's coupling $J$, and Hubbard-like Coulomb interactions $U$ and $U'$ with relatively small $J$ ($J\leq0.2U$). With the increasing electron doping, the g-wave state competes with both the s-wave $A_{1g}$ and d-wave $B_{2g}$ states and no pairing symmetry emerges dominantly.

The Fidelity and Trace Norm Distances for Quantifying Coherence

We investigate the coherence measures induced by fidelity and trace norm, based on the recent proposed coherence quantification in [Phys. Rev. Lett. 113, 140401, 2014]. We show that the fidelity of coherence does not in general satisfy the monotonicity requirement as a measure of coherence under the subselection of measurements condition. We find that the trace norm of coherence can act as a measure of coherence for qubit case and some special class of qutrits.

Suppressing correlated noise in signals transmitted over the Gaussian memory channels using $2N$-port splitter and phase flips

A scheme for suppressing the correlated noise in signals transmitted over the bosonic Gaussian memory channels is proposed. This is a compromise solution rather than removing the noise completely. The scheme is based on linear optical elements, two $N$-port splitters and $N$ number of phase flips. The proposed scheme has the advantages that the correlated noise of the memory channels are greatly suppressed, and the input signal states can be protected excellently when transmitting over the noise channels. We examine the suppressing efficiency of the scheme for the correlated noise, both from quantum information of the states directly transmitted through the noise channel and also from the entanglement teleportation. The phase flips are very important aspects for the suppressions of the correlated noise, which transform the roles of the memory factor from completely negative to positive in quantum information communications. Increasing the number of beam splitters also can improve the suppressing efficiency of the scheme in communications.

The Fidelity of Measurement-Based Quantum Computation under a Boson Environment

We investigate the fidelity of the measurement-based quantum computation (MBQC) when it is coupled with boson environment, by measuring cluster state fidelity and gate fidelity. Two different schemes of cluster state preparation are studied. In the Controlled-Z (CZ) creation scheme, cluster states are prepared by entangling all qubits in $|+\rangle$ state with CZ gates on all neighboring sites. The fidelity shows an oscillation pattern over time evolution. The influence of environment temperature is evaluated, and suggestions are given to enhance the performance of MBQC realized in this way. In the Hamiltonian creation scheme, cluster states are made by cooling a system with cluster Hamiltonians, of which ground states are cluster states. The fidelity sudden drop phenomenon is discovered. When the coupling is below a threshold, MBQC systems are highly robust against the noise. Our main environment model is the one with a single collective bosonic mode.

All-optical routing of single photons with multiple input and output ports by interferences

We propose a waveguide-cavity coupled system to achieve the routing of photons by the phases of other photons. Our router has four input ports and four output ports. The transport of the coherent-state photons injected through any input port can be controlled by the phases of the coherent-state photons injected through other input ports. This control can be achieved when the mean numbers of the routed and control photons are small enough and require no additional control fields. Therefore, the all-optical routing of photons can be achieved at the single-photon level.

Local convertibility and the quantum simulation of edge states in many-body systems

In some many-body systems, certain ground state entanglement (Renyi) entropies increase even as the correlation length decreases. This entanglement non-monotonicity is a potential indicator of non-classicality. In this work we demonstrate that such a phenomenon, known as non-local convertibility, is due to the edge state (de)construction occurring in the system. To this end, we employ the example of the Ising chain, displaying an order-disorder quantum phase transitions. Employing both analytical and numerical methods, we compute entanglement entropies for various system bipartitions (A|B) and consider ground states with and without Majorana edge states. We find that the thermal ground states, enjoying the Hamiltonian symmetries, show non-local convertibility if either A or B are smaller than, or of the order of, the correlation length. In contrast, the ordered (symmetry breaking) ground state is always locally convertible. The edge states behavior explains all these results and could disclose a paradigm to understand local convertibility in other quantum phases of matter. The connection we establish between convertibility and non-local, quantum correlations provides a clear criterion of which features a universal quantum simulator should possess to outperform a classical machine.
