Dynamics of Geometric Discord and Measurement-Induced Nonlocality at Finite Temperature

By using geometric measure of discord (\texttt{GMOD})[Phys. Rev. Lett, 105, 109502 (2010)] and measurement-induced nonlocality (\texttt{MIN})[Phys. Rev. Lett, 106, 120401 (2011)], we investigate quantum correlation of a pair of two-level systems, each of which is interacting with a reservoir at finite temperature $T$. We show that, for a broad class of states of the system, \texttt{GMOD} and \texttt{MIN} can endure sudden death, and there is no asymptotic decay for \texttt{MIN} while asymptotic decay exists for \texttt{GMOD}. We also give the dynamics of \texttt{GMOD} and \texttt{MIN} with respect to the temperature and illustrate their different characteristics.

No-compressing of quantum phase information

We raise a general question of quantum information theory whether the quantum phase information can be compressed and retrieved. A general qubit contains both amplitude and phase information, while an equatorial qubit contains only a phase information. We study whether it is possible to compress the phase information of n equatorial qubits into m general qubits with m being less than n, and still those information can be retrieved perfectly. We prove that this process is not allowed by quantum mechanics.

Robustness of quantum correlations against decoherence

We study dynamics of nonclassical correlations by exactly solving a model consisting of two atomic qubits with spontaneous emission. We find that the nonclassical correlations defined by different measures give different qualitative characterizations of those correlations. The relative behaviors of those correlation measures are presented explicitly for various quantum states in the two-qubit atomic system. In particular, we find that the robustness of quantum correlations can be greatly enhanced by performing appropriate local unitary operations on the initial state of the system.

Conditions on local operations to create quantum correlation

We prove the condition for local trace-preserving channels to create quantum correlation from initially classical states. For two-qubit states, the necessary and sufficient condition for a channel that cannot create quantum correlation in any initially classical state is that it is either a completely decohering channel or a mixing channel. For states in higher dimensions, we show that even a mixing channel can create quantum correlation from a classically correlated state. Our results reveal that mixedness is important for creation of quantum correlation in high-dimension quantum systems.

Solid-State Optimal Phase-Covariant Quantum Cloning Machine

Here we report an experimental realization of optimal phase-covariant quantum cloning machine with a single electron spin in solid state system at room temperature. The involved three states of two logic qubits are encoded physically in three levels of a single electron spin with two Zeeman sub-levels at a nitrogen-vacancy defect center in diamond. The preparation of input state and the phase-covariant quantum cloning transformation are controlled by two independent microwave fields. The average experimental fidelity reaches 85.2% which is very close to theoretical optimal fidelity 85.4% and is beyond the bound 83.3% of universal cloning.

Critical properties of Sudden Quench Dynamics in the anisotropic XY Model

We study the zero temperature quantum dynamical critical behavior of the anisotropic XY chain under a sudden quench in a transverse field. We demonstrate theoretically that both quench magnetic susceptibility and two-particle quench correlation can be used to describe the dynamical quantum phase transition (QPT) properties. Either the quench magnetic susceptibility or the derivative of correlation functions as a function of initial magnetic field $a$ exhibits a divergence at the critical points when final magnetic field $b$ is fixed. A special case that final magnetic field $b$ is just at the critical point is discussed separately. Some of the critical exponents of the dynamical QPT are obtained and the long-range correlation of the quench system is analyzed. We also compare our result with that of the static QPT.

Preservation of entanglement in a two-qubit-spin coupled system

A theoretical scheme to preserve the entanglement in a two-qubit-spin coupled system in the presence of Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya (DM) anisotropic antisymmetric interaction is proposed. Based on a sequence of operations performed periodically on the system, the scheme can preserve the entanglement of the system starting from any initial state with any high precision for any long duration.

Entanglement evolution in multipartite cavity-reservoir systems under local unitary operations

We analyze the entanglement evolution of two cavity photons being affected by the dissipation of two individual reservoirs. Under an arbitrary local unitary operation on the initial state, it is shown that there is only one parameter which changes the entanglement dynamics. For the bipartite subsystems, we show that the entanglement of the cavity photons is correlated with that of the reservoirs, although the local operation can delay the time at which the photon entanglement disappears and advance the time at which the reservoir entanglement appears. Furthermore, via a new defined four-qubit entanglement measure and two three-qubit entanglement measures, we study the multipartite entanglement evolution in the composite system, which allows us to analyze quantitatively both bipartite and multipartite entanglement within a unified framework. In addition, we also discuss the entanglement evolution with an arbitrary initial state.

Quantum correlations in spin models

Bell nonlocality, entanglement and nonclassical correlations are different aspects of quantum correlations for a given state. There are many methods to measure nonclassical correlations. In this paper, nonclassical correlations in two-qubit spin models are measured by use of measurement-induced disturbance (MID) [Phys. Rev. A, 77, 022301 (2008)] and geometric measure of quantum discord (GQD) [Phys. Rev. Lett. 105, 190502 (2010)]. Their dependencies on external magnetic field, spin-spin coupling, and Dzyaloshinski-Moriya (DM) interaction are presented in detail. We also compare Bell nonlocality, entanglement measured by concurrence, MID and GQD and illustrate their different characteristics.

Diffractions of Bose-Einstein Condensate in Quantized Light Fields

We investigate the atomic diffractions of a Bose-Einstein condensate in quantized light fields. Situations in which the light fields are in number states or coherent states are studied theoretically. Analytical derivation and numerical calculation are carried out to simulate the dynamics of the atomic motion. In condition that atoms are scattered by light in the number states with imbalanced photon number distribution, the atomic transitions between different momentum modes would sensitively depend on the transition order and the photon number distribution. The number-state-nature of the light fields modifies the period of atomic momentum oscillations and makes forward and backward atomic transitions unequal. For light fields in coherent states, no matter the intensities of the light fields are balanced or not, the atomic diffractions are symmetric and independent on the transition order.

Unified Universal Quantum Cloning Machine and Fidelities

We present a unified universal quantum cloning machine, which combines several different existing universal cloning machines together including the asymmetric case. In this unified framework, the identical pure states are projected equally into each copy initially constituted by input and one half of the maximally entangled states. We show explicitly that the output states of those universal cloning machines are the same. One importance of this unified cloning machine is that the cloning procession is always the symmetric projection which reduces dramatically the difficulties for implementation. Also it is found that this unified cloning machine can be directly modified to the general asymmetric case. Besides the global fidelity and the single-copy fidelity, we also present all possible arbitrary-copy fidelities.

Entanglement spectrum: Identification of the transition from vortex-liquid to vortex-lattice state in a weakly interacting rotating Bose-Einstein condensate

We use entanglement to investigate the transition from vortex liquid phase to vortex lattice phase in weakly interacting rotating Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC). Ground state entanglement spectrum is analyzed to distinguish these two different phases. For the torus geometry, the low-lying part of ground state entanglement spectrum, as well as the behavior of its lowest level change clearly when the transition occurs. For the sphere geometry, the disappearance of entanglement gap in the conformal limit (CL) can indicate this transition. We also show that the decrease of entanglement between particles can be regarded as a signal of the transition.

Critical behaviors and local transformation properties of wave function

We investigate crossing behavior of ground state entanglement Renyi entropies of quantum critical systems. We find a novel property that the ground state in one quantum phase cannot be locally transferred to that of another phase, that means a global transformation is necessary. This also provides a clear evidence to confirm the long standing expectation that entanglement Renyi entropy contains more information than entanglement von Neumann entropy. The method of studying crossing behavior of entanglement Renyi entropies can distinguish different quantum phases well. We also study the excited states which still give interesting results.

Quantum information approach to the quantum phase transition in the Kitaev honeycomb model

Kitaev honeycomb model with topological phase transition at zero temperature is studied using quantum information method. Based on the exact solution of the ground state, the mutual information between two nearest sites and between two bonds with longest distance are obtained. It is found that the mutual information show some singularities at the critical point where the ground state of the system transits from gapless phase to gapped phase. The finite-size effects and scalar behavior are also studied. The mutual information can serve as good indicators of the topological phase transition, since the mutual information catches some global correlation properties of the system. Meanwhile, this method has other advantages such that the phase transition can be determined easily and the order parameters are not required previously, for the order parameters of some topological phase transitions are hard to know.

Abelian and Non-Abelian Quantum Geometric Tensor

We propose a generalized quantum geometric tenor to understand topological quantum phase transitions, which can be defined on the parameter space with the adiabatic evolution of a quantum many-body system. The generalized quantum geometric tenor contains two different local measurements, the non-Abelian Riemannian metric and the non-Abelian Berry curvature, which are recognized as two natural geometric characterizations for the change of the ground-state properties when the parameter of the Hamiltonian varies. Our results show the symmetry-breaking and topological quantum phase transitions can be understood as the singular behavior of the local and topological properties of the quantum geometric tenor in the thermodynamic limit.

Particle Entanglement in Rotating Gases

In this paper, we investigate the particle entanglement in 2D weakly-interacting rotating Bose and Fermi gases. We find that both particle localization and vortex localization can be indicated by particle entanglement. We also use particle entanglement to show the occurrence of edge reconstruction of rotating fermions. The different properties of condensate phase and vortex liquid phase of bosons can be reflected by particle entanglement and in vortex liquid phase we construct a trial wave function in the viewpoint of entanglement to relate the ground state with quantum Hall state. Finally, the relation between particle entanglement and interaction strength is studied.

Quantum Information Approach to Rotating Bose-Einstein Condensate

We investigate the 2D weakly interacting Bose-Einstein condensate in a rotating trap by the tools of quantum information theory. The critical exponents of the ground state fidelity susceptibility and the correlation length of the system are obtained for the quantum phase transition when the frst vortex is formed. We also find the single-particle entanglement can be an indicator of the angular momentums for some real ground states. The single-particle entanglement of fractional quantum Hall states such as Laughlin state and Pfaffian state is also studied.
