Phase-averaged transport for quasi-periodic Hamiltonians

For a class of discrete quasi-periodic Schroedinger operators defined by covariant re- presentations of the rotation algebra, a lower bound on phase-averaged transport in terms of the multifractal dimensions of the density of states is proven. This result is established under a Diophantine condition on the incommensuration parameter. The relevant class of operators is distinguished by invariance with respect to symmetry automorphisms of the rotation algebra. It includes the critical Harper (almost-Mathieu) operator. As a by-product, a new solution of the frame problem associated with Weyl-Heisenberg-Gabor lattices of coherent states is given.

Weak disorder expansion for localization lengths of quasi-1D systems

A perturbative formula for the lowest Lyapunov exponent of an Anderson model on a strip is presented. It is expressed in terms of an energy dependent doubly stochastic matrix, the size of which is proportional to the strip width. This matrix and the resulting perturbative expression for the Lyapunov exponent are evaluated numerically. Dependence on energy, strip width and disorder strength are thoroughly compared with the results obtained by the standard transfer matrix method. Good agreement is found for all energies in the band of the free operator and this even for quite large values of the disorder strength.

Anomalous Drude Model

A generalization of the Drude model is studied. On the one hand, the free motion of the particles is allowed to be sub- or superdiffusive; on the other hand, the distribution of the time delay between collisions is allowed to have a long tail and even a non-vanishing first moment. The collision averaged motion is either regular diffusive or Lévy-flight like. The anomalous diffusion coefficients show complex scaling laws. The conductivity can be calculated in the diffusive regime. The model is of interest for the phenomenological study of electronic transport in quasicrystals.
